Bugger. I thought it was just the 3 (Sutty, Sheridan and Grey).Yeah![]()
That was some baffling choices in hindsight. The rest make sense but the Strnadica one is just poor list management, rather Sandi hadn't renewed or taken only one of meek/jones
GuelfiThat was some baffling choices in hindsight.
In saying that, around those picks was there any players we missed out on. I might have a look.
Brody Miochek is a good player. He carves us upGuelfi
the club has released statements indicating banfield and duman have been elevated to the senior listIs there any proof that we elevated our rookies to the main list? I mean the ones who got contract extensions. You can have a contract extension and remain on the rookie list.
If medhat and carter get through to the rookie list they will be cat B, so not included on the normal rookie list, I believe.Interesting position we're in. By my understanding to meet the clause below we'll have to de-list two others from the main list to comply. Not sure how we go about this but if you assume we want to pick up Carter and Medhat as NGA that means we would only be able to rookie list one of our two de-listings (if still wanted) to give us 4 rookies in total. This is based on the assumption that we only add 3 to the main list out of the draft as per our minimum requirements
At a National Draft Selection Meeting:
(A) each Club shall exercise a minimum of 3 Draft selections (including selections forfeited under Rules 8.7, 10.10(b), 12.4(b), 13.4(b) and 14.4(d)); and
(B) no Club may exercise more than 3 Draft selections if the consequence would be that it would exceed the number of Players which it is entitled to include on its Primary List pursuant to these Rules.
Happy for anyone to explain to me if I've got this wrong. Also who would we be willing to de-list and run the gauntlet of the rookie draft to re-list?
Nhuis has been elevated as well.the club has released statements indicating banfield and duman have been elevated to the senior list
Jumped the gun for mine. Doubts over his body/strength to play AFL? But he's only 20 ffs. Very bad choice done thereWhy cant we especially when we are shizen have given guys like Nads a game before delisting to see if they have what it takes at the highest level? Seems like a massive waste of everyones time. Maybe the doubts about their skill, fitness or mindset cant be overcome. Or maybe the faith shown in the current best 22 wont allow for experimentation. Wats the go. Apeness can string together 4 games at WAFL level and gets a run in the seniors and Nads plays atleast 10 games in a row this year and cant get a game???

AFL.com saying only Hughes had been offered a main list deal and Nyhuis may have to be de and relisted as a Rookie.Nhuis has been elevated as well.
Need to cut three more contracted players.
I reckon Hughes showed a fair bit, would be very surprised if we don't keep him on in some regard. It also seems strange that we haven't had official word direct from the club on nyhuis and hughes. I still think they will end up on the rookie list somehow
Hughes re-re-signing official on afl.com
Nyhuis staying but no confirmation on whether he will go to main list or be re-rookied
Hughes needs to be ready round 1. He won't last another year if he is jerking around for half a season before hitting his straps. Good player when up and going. This makes sense. Happy for Hughes.
Hope no one else picks up Nyhuis and we re-rookie him.
So we now have two spots. I still think we need three more for safety.
Agree with this.Need to keep Meek, if Darcy decides to go home or gets a serious injury - we're back to screwing around with our forward line.
Jones should be a casualty of Sandi staying & Darcy being in a position to take over the role in 2020 with Meek as back up. Meek is actually 2 months older than Darcy, he is already a decent tap ruckman just doesn't get enough of it around the game.
Strads is a direct casualty of Lobb, Tabs, Apeness & even Cox provide the back up as 2nd ruck.
It is also not only the list spots, it is the ability to get meaningful game time into these guys at WAFL level. Meek should be leading the ruck at WAFL level and be the undoubted #1 - it's the only way we'll fast track him or find out he isn't top flight material.
No shade on Jones, he is however a symptom that we were trying to cover for list deficiencies by drafting a number of folks hoping 1 or 2 would make it.
Agree with this.
I expect we have made a commitment to keep Nyhuis on for another year but that will now be via the Rookie List.
Jones delisted as you say - he ended up in the Peel reserves after a couple of average league games.
Apeness delisted with promise to be redrafted on the rookie list. Last chance saloon for him.
Then we will run with 40 + 4 (Apeness, Nyhuis, Giro)
9 out (Neale, 3 retirees, Sutcliffe, Grey, Sheridan, Jones, Apeness)
6 in (inc. Upgraded Duman and Banfield)
Increase our main list from 39 to 40
Gives us 4 ND picks (14,31,43,65)
Gives us 1 RD Pick (5); Plus Ape & Nyhuis redrafted rookies
NGA Academy picks (Carter, Medhat) if passed over the ND can be added as an extension to the Rookie draft.
I expect if a bid comes for Carter just prior to 65 then we may use selection 65. They would be both reasonable chances to be passed in the ND.
