We must select 3 players in the National Draft. Witts & Hartley will be on our list next year. Senior list or rookie. We'll know in time.

Irrespective, at least 5 more players must be delisted.

Brad Dick
John McCarthy
Daniel Farmer
Trent Stubbs
Brent McCaffer

I think part of the issues with our cap may stem from Stubbs & Farmer, whether they move to the rookie list or not, I think their salary is still included in next years cap, hence the squeeze on Tooves & Caff when they weren't highly paid anyway.

Re: Delistings

Everyone on here seems to be mentioning that Witts will be put straight onto the senior list.

During the interview with Hine following trade week when asked whether or not Witts was going to be put onto the senior list Hine said the will sit down and discuss it this week.

He also mentioned the possibility of elevating a rookie after round 11.

Do you think we could possibly put Witts and Hartley on the Rookie list as NSW scholarship holders and perhaps look to elevate Witts after round 11??

Re: Delistings

What is the general consensus on Sinclair? I've only seen him play a few games and his efforts are commendable, looks as though he tries harder than anyone. I just wonder whether he has the skill to play at AFL level. I know he's only young and I do hope he can prove me wrong if he's retained because he really looks as though he wants to make it.

It doesn't really matter what we think of him as fans, he is that highly rated by the club that he wouldn't even be considered when delisting talks begin this week.

He is as tough as they come, and while his disposal under pressure has looked poor at times, he really hasn't had the chance to show what he can do at senior level.

Rounds and Sinclair are two that should be taken off everyones' possible delistings lists, they will be at Collingwood for next year at least.

Thats fair enough but i would have said the same about McCaffer 1 week ago.

I wonder how Buckley rates Sinclair. Buckley rates work rate but rates disposal skills equally high. My feeling is that under Malthouse Sinclair would be safe as houses but under Buckley I am not so certain. To me he is a logical candidate for delisting now we know we have to get rid of so many senior listed players and given what he has shown to date. That coupled with the tricky situation in regards to what we can and can't do with Stubbs and Farmer given they are on a minimum two year contract.

Re: Delistings

McCarthy will probably walk out and into the draft.

Hopefully we can retain Caff. Dick is an interesting one, not sure what they will do there.

P.s. for god's sake it's MACAFFER, sorry it's just p1ssing me off:D

Re: Delistings

Sadly Dick will probably have to go. Macaffer looks to be on his way out as well as JMac. The likes of Stubbs and Farmer are in trouble.

Re: Delistings

The Caff has played 30 games in the B&W, Sinclair only 4. I think they would have made up their mind about Caff more than young Benny at this stage. They are at totally different stages of their careers.

As far as other players go, it's hard to see JMac staying on the list with a new coach that places such a high premium on disposal skills, and Dick's body looks to have failed him :( (I'm hugely disappointed about this :( )
Depending on who we are looking at in the drafts, I think Macaffer may be given another year to prove himself. Had an injury interrupted year, but has already proved that he can hold down a spot in the 22. Make or break year for sure. Don't think we'll cut him loose before giving him one last shot, especially when we pretty obviously need some different options in the F50 (16 goals for the Fas in his first year may have closed this door for Maccaffer though!)
S Buckley is IMHO not a premiership player. Needs to be moved on.
What is Goldy's contract situation? I really hope he stays. Even though he isn't a regular player, whenever someone is under an injury cloud, or it looks like one of our 22 will miss, I feel pretty at ease knowing that we have a seniors-ready player in Goldsack waiting in the wings to come straight in and play his heart out. But that's pretty selfish of me I guess, and it's not hard to imagine that he may look to be picked up by a team where he will be be in the first 22.

Re: Delistings

We are able to delist and then re-draft players aren't we? Sorry just having trouble keeping up with all the rules here!

Is that right if we have taken 2 kids already?

Am I the only one who gets really annoyed by a thread called Delistings, which I click through and read only to find it's all speculative?

Re: Delistings

According to Ralphy, we have picked up 6 including Hartley and will pick another two, taking the ins to 8.

The Pies have already brought in six players, and with picks 50 and 65 will select two more in the draft.

I noticed Hine in his CTV interview hadn't confirmed that Witts would be granted a senior spot, but you'd think that's a certainty.

So that means 8 outs, including possibly some re-rookieing.

A few of that 8 are only rookies though remember. Hartley and Mooney will definitely be on the rookie list, I think Witts probably will as well from how Hine spoke. Witts won't play before round 11 when we can upgrade a rookie anyway and we know he is going to be loyal to us, I think they'll put him on the RL to save having to cut another player. We've all just assumed he'd automatically go onto the senior list, but there really isn't any need for him to.
So I think we'll only be looking at cutting 5 off the main list for Elliot, Clarke, Yagmoor and the two draftees.

My guess at the five would be;
Farmer
Stubbs
Dick
Leroy obviously
And then I think the last spot could come from any of Jmac, Macaffer, Buckley or Sinclair.

I'd be inclined to go with Buckley personally. Excess to our needs and not up to scratch anyway.

Re: Delistings

Based on Hine's intereview, there will be a total of 10 list changes (senior & rookie)

The ins are confirmed, just remains to be seen who we pick and whether Witts/Hartley/Mooney go to the senior or rookies list.

Ins- Clarke, Elliot, Yagmoor, Witts, Hartley, Mooney + 2 ND picks and 2 Rookie picks

Without knowing the breakdown of how many will be cut from the rookie list and how many will be cut from the senior list, my guess is the outs will be

Outs- L. Brown, McCarthy, Stubbs, Farmer, Gordon, Reilly, Perham, S.Reed, Shae Mac, Hunter

I also think Dick will move to the rookie list but as he will remain at the club, he's not part of the 10 outs.

I found it really hard to hear what Hine was saying in the interview. Literally had my ear to the laptop and was competing with a screaming toddler.

But listening again, Hine said that 'the rookie draft will see another (i.e. new) two players come into the club'. Those two rookies presumably are Mooney and Hartley. So that would mean 5 or 6 to the senior list, depending on which way they go with Witts. I'm punting Witts will be a senior listee so that's 2 rookie spots locked and 6 to the senior list: Witts, Clarke, Elliot, Yagmoor and our 2 upcoming draft selections.

If they put Witts on the senior list that means 6 de-listings from the seniors. Given that only half a rookie players' wage counts toward the salary cap, that might mean several senior listed players being delisted with some picked up (hopefully) as rookies.

A rookie list of Hartley, Mooney, Dick, Macaffer, McCartney and Buckley would be ideal.

But that would also mean no current rookies retaining their spots and the de-listing / demotion of six senior players.

I'd hope the de-listing of senior players to include Leroy (retired), Farmer (permanent), Stubbs (permanent), Dick (rookie), MaCaffer (rookie), McCarthy (rookie) and Buckley (rookie).

There's a lot of unknowns; like paying out the 2nd years for Farmer and Stubbs; if other teams picked up our delistees, and if it is better / cheaper to go for other rookies available.

Ten list changes doesn't necessarily mean 10 outs, it could mean some outs and a re-shuffle.

Hine rates the kid at the high end of this draft, if we offer him a rookie spot he could easily say stuff it and enter the draft where he will go top 10, to risky, he will be on the senior list for sure IMO.

Havent you heard? The wise sayings of a poster at bigfooty is never speculation.... farmer and stubbs have already left the westpac centre and taken a cab home to mom...

I had a look at the list and I cant see too many that should be dropped off the main list. Leroy is one, Dicks is two.

Farmer and Stubbs have only had one year. They wouldnt have had a full preseason, coming straight from school. I dunno if that's fair. Actually, I thought it was a requirement to give draftees two years...
I get a feelling that Luke Rounds might be looked at closely. Buckley is probably going to go because he hasn't really improved a lot. Thinking about it, Farmer and Stubbs will have to be redrafted as rookies if they are going to continue....even then,
