Delistings

I was surprised any club announced delistings before the trade week.

All clubs will progressively make announcements pending the draft.

The Saints are usually slow with their announcements, so we may need to be patient.

The players need to come back from their breaks (think minimum 4 weeks?) and get interviewed on where they are at and who expects what.

I doubt whether they will announce de-listings progressively (just do it all at once).

We'll find out in the next 3 weeks. 1st list lodgement is on the 31st. But there's gonna be a mass pile of deadwood thrown out the door.

Please Fiora, please Fiora, please Fiora. Pray like you've never before boys.

I reckon

Fiora: coz he sucks balls

Rix: Gives everything he's got, and it's great to see from a big man like him but i don't think he's up to it unfortunately. He would've been a great player if he had more talent.

Gardiner: Same story, not up to AFL standard

Andrew McQualter: Been there too long and another wasted second round pick, he won't be playing a big part next year i wouldn't think

Gehrig and Harvey: Retirement

I think that's it really

Hope you're referring to Charlie...

Hope you're referring to Charlie...

I hope you referring to neither. Michael G was awesome for us early in the year and is exactly what we need. He crashes and bashes and gets the ball to our mids.
And Charlie while he is by no means the best out there, one thing he does whicg players like Dal Santo could take a leaf from is that he works his ass off every game, he chases and he tackles hard. If you look at the games when he was playing i'm sure you will find Rooey played better. he was leading up and taking alot of rpessure of rooey to take 14 marks. Kosi sure is doing nothing.

Onto delistings we have so much dead wood at the club that needs to go. Howard, Rix, Geary, Howard, McQualter, Jones, Van rheenan, Allen, Firoa, Birss, Blake, Ferguson, L.Fisher, and Gwilt.

Some of these players played alot of games this year but the simple fact is that none of these guys would get a game and the top clubs and thats what we need to build. DEPTH. Look at hawthorn and Geelong they each had 5- 8 players not play in the GF who easily could of. We have no depth what so ever. And for f*#k suck lets draft kids who can kick well and have a little bit fo speed.

No, what I mean by that is that if he was referring to Michael, it's idiotic, especially cos that was the day he had just resigned on a 1 year contract...

I dont mind Charlie, he's just too up and down, a little consistency and he'd be a good 3rd tall for us.

We ARE one of the top clubs and they got a game with us !!!

You listed half of the youth we have coming through.

Please understand that kids need games under their belt before they can be expected to perform at a high level in the AFL on a consistent basis. Most experts say 50 games and this seems to be true with all clubs. Although there will always be special talents which don't fit within the "typical" mould.

I agree we need to focus more on kids who are exceptional kicks of the ball - these are invaluable players.

i agree with 90% of what you were saying here but the players i have in bold would not be de-listed....
Geary- still very young and will be a good player for us
McQualter- did a good job playing as a run with bloke this season in Bakes' absence and i believe can take some pressure of bakes by continuing to do this. Giving him a big job each week gets him to the game more by running with the likes of bartel, mitchell etc...
Jones- Was outstanding this year and i believe is definitley in our best 22 atm. He is quick, has an awkward kicking style but gets the job done, is keen, smart, tough and has great defensive skills... why would you want to get rid of that? jonesy doing this has also bought milney into the game more.
Allen- Key position player, very young, they need more time and he will be a handy player for us in the future.
Blake- Gives his all every week does his job and had a great season for us this year!

Thats my opinon anyway.

I agree with what people are saying regarding some players but I just dont see these guys being in our side if we were to win a premiership. I just want us to build a side that has 30 very good players to choose from and at the moment it's not the case. I think Ray will help and we need to get Cousins and if we can somehow steal O'Keefe even better. Look at the players i mentioned and they either lack pace or they lack skills. Not what we need

Going by the ladder we are a top side but i think finishing top 4 has blinded some people. I still thinks sides like Collingwood, Bulldogs are ahead of us and Swans and North areound the same as us. We got smashed by geelong and Hawthorn when it mattered.

I think we all see what you are saying mate... But you did just slam a lot of our youth. Sure they might not get a game in the 2009 premiership side (please God), but they are developing and will play a role for our back to back flag in 2010 (do I still have credibility lol).

Howard, Allen, Geary, Jones and Blake will stay. Not a doubt in my mind!

I am nervous for Birss cause i thought he had a bit to offer, however not getting games makes me a bit uneasy. I think he will get picked up in the PSD if we delist him.

L Fisher... Has probably already cleaned out his locker (poor bugger, gave his all but just had no ability to find or use the ball).

C Gardiner... I think he would have played a finals game as well if we thought there was a role for him. Prediction gone.

Ferguson... Loved his game this year apart from innacuracy. Injuries really destroyed his career. Unfortunately I think he and Leigh Fisher will be lining up at recruitment agencies next year.

Rix... I think he is contracted for next year, but he may be paid out ala McQalter given M Gardiner just re-signed (am stoked about that!)

Gwilt will remain, as shown by getting finals games this year. Still has a bit of improvement in him around consistency, can use the ball very nicely and is a good size for a HFF.

Will be interesting to see what rookie elevations occur given McQalter, Attard and Eddy are rookies (was Eddies new deal as a senior player?).

Gehrig and Harvey retired.

Oh and sorry SSS, but I think Fiora will remain (terrible year tho by anyones standards!).

Gardiner played in the first final against Geelong brother.

There will be some tough choices this year.
Howard Been there too long
Birss will go, good backup but wont win a flag with him
L Fisher will go, cant get a game before fiona
Fiona well pretty clear he should go
Allen will develop into a great player who can go forward and back, will stay
Blake great player, will stay
Geary will be great, will stay
Jones needs to work on his kicking, will stay
C Gardiner may stay as a backup.
McQualter
will go, not up to it.

birss is a good backup/depth player. probably wont get regular game time but is still good gap filler in case of injuries. sadly fiora should be a similar player but lacks quality so needs to go.

mcqualter will never be a gun. desicion has to be made whether or not he can be a depth player. he's not there yet. has one more year to prove worth. we can get rid of him but who would we replace him with????

i think blake has done a full 180 this year. has turned from shit and frustrating to reliable and pleasant. will never be a gun but is a great starting player. can help king, gardiner and kozi in the ruck. one great credit to lyon is he actually has given our rucks some depth and quality. king has been a steal to say the least. gardiner has shown some great glimpses and is well worth the risk. blake has been transformed. kozi just needs some development and some beating around his thick skull.

Jones i think is a great developing player and i think raph clarke is now moving along those lines now too. although jones is miles ahead.

i think geary, eddy and allen need more time in the vfl, along with xavier. i wouldnt even pick xavier for the first 6 months. blood him in the vfl and harden him up.

dempster i am stoked about, pitty we wont have him back anytime soon.

charlie gardiner is the one for me (along with mcqualter) where its a fine line.

in all honesty, i think we have been concentrating on short term results. largely in part to 2004 and also robert harvey departing. now that harvey is gone i think we can re-settle, calm down and look at the long term. ross lyon is making up great ground. he's stabalised the ruck and starting to provide some depth to our list. look at the players we have picked up so far and have had an immediate impact:
1) king,
2) scheider (spelling)
3) dempster

were moving forward with no sign of falling back. next year might not be the year but 2010 could be.

I agree regarding Birss, McQualter, Fiora. But the way the contracts have panned out I suspect Fiora will have the benefit of good timing and be the one most likely to be retained . Then if Birss is let go , McQualter will probably be retained since these two have been getting used in a similar role.
I agree with pretty much everything else but I rate X a bit higher than that.
If we do pick up Cousins we will have a glut of midfielders, which means we could actually lose ALL of McQualter, Birss, Fiora .
As far as who is best 22, the NAB cup will be very interesting next year, and if X plays among the best I would definitely want to see him play in the AFL.

One of Birss or McQualter has to go we don't need both...
Howard has to go.
Fiora has to go.
L Fisher can go but could be kept for depth...

He dosn't have to , and Lyon has said he will not.
What is the point of all these draft picks if you don't give the guys a chance?

Seriously! Some of these supporters think you can stick quality players in the microwave and "bing", they're done. Most of the time, unless you get a miracle like Rioli, good players take a heck of a lot of hours to grow into roles... and often a few roastings! :)

Howard has a brand spanking new 2 year contract. For the last time, and I think a few people have raised this, he is no chance of being delisted.

Assuming Rix does not have a contract (question mark here) he may not survive. The club will know that it is time for McEvoy to spend time in the middle. But who knows - they may keep Rix as a backup defender which is where he should have been all along.

Fiora has a contract, and seems to have the regard of Lyon - possibly as he can be played in different positions. But maybe it was last roll of the dice to prove himself?

Chucky, Leigh Fish and Fergie are gone in my opinion.

Would hope Birss is safe, but they may delist him on a promise to redraft if they don't identify a "slider" in the U/18 crop and no-one else picks Birss up (like they have done for Fergie in the past).

I know about 2 days ago I made a post about all the imbeciles who are saying delist Howard....Even though we recently gave him a new 2 year deal!

Cmon guys, pick up your act.

And Blake's always been handy, just no one's really noticed. Although I guess this has probably been his best year as well.
