There are a few boys in the team who need to lift their heads and raise their games at the minute. The fantastic momentum we built up at the start of the season has been eroded by lacklustre performance against Kangas, Lions and Melbourne.

We've showed potential, now time to fulfil it, because the guys are capable of it...

a couple of your blokes seemed to lose the plot early on. dissapointing to allow yourself to be baited by some of our softest players. no croad really hurt you blokes in the front half. you had enough of the ball at times but seemed to hit a wall at chf, hardly a strength for us normally.

After the Geelong win I posted that we had a simiilar victory in Round 3 2005 and lost our way, and if we didn't build on the Geelong win we haven't improved. Well, we've wasted 12 months. Forget finals in 2006, and I don't know if we will be ready in 2007 or 2008 .. or ever for that matter. We appear to be going nowhere and it worries me.

Easy to blame Dawson and Clarkson again (and both were poor) but the reason we've stopped being competitive is because Hodge and Mitchell are no longer dominating the midfield and Croad is out of the side. Hodge is injured and Croady is still a couple weeks off, so brace for more beltings.

If Clarkson doesnt play Buddy next week he should be shot. We need alternatives up forward to Mark Williams.

Well that was fun for everyone wasn't it.

My anger at this game is excacererbated by having to sit through it with my sister and father both of whom are keen Dee's supporters.

My question for you all is what was your favourite Clarkson coaching move?

I am tossing up between three
1. Playing Hodge at Full Forward (ok he's injured) but swapping Willo to the half back flank. Which was great when his opponent marked, Willo walked away and whoever it was ran straight through the mark and goaled.

2. Moving Roughead to the backline after the game was lost (a Clarkson favourite)

3. Playing Jacobs, who had an absolute shocker. I will eat my hat if he was 100% fit, or even 70% for that matter.

I would love to be thinking otherwise but I can't see Clarkson at the moment as a good coach. Yes he as given us a good young list, good enough in a few years not now. But match day wise I have yet to see any innovative sucessful moves, or an ability to slow down a game when the opposition are piling on the point. My thoughts is that he is too proud, his game plan is not working, ie Zac Dawson is costing us 4 goals a game before we start yet he won't admit that prehaps the kid would be better off gaining exp in the VFL, instead of running around in circles at the highest level. Thank god Danniher did us a favour and took Nietz off.

Just got home from the game and I'm pretty ashamed of the Hawks. When you get out-muscled by the softest team in the comp, you know you're in trouble. We just did not want the footy tonight.

Your man Sewell on the other hand was one of the few shining lights for the game - Roughy being another, this kid will be a player.

Sewell cannot be beaten. Will not be beaten all year, write that down. Should be AA, but is not as recognised as some of the other players theyll select.

Jacobs is good, but was clearly injured.

I thought Hodge and Crawf were the only 2 trying.

It has be totally bewildering how a team of 22 can have about 18 who aren't switched on, or having a bad match, but we seem to do this regularly. I'd like to know why.

Yep in big losses it is really easy to look bad, but some positives,
Roughead presented well, looked good, dropped a couple of easy marks but done the hard work getting the the right areas. Should stay forward.
Birchall 15 pos and Kane 12 pos,looked OK with their long kicking in forward 50. Still work to be done but it's very early on and for mine they showed enough to play next week.
Miller i thought it was one of his better games and thats saying something! I think still a way off AFL level. A decision need to made on him. Play him for the next 6 - 8 weeks with his career at HFC on the line.

Boyle Terrible last night, really at the cross roads needs to go back to Box Hill and play well, might be gone. Unless injuries continue may not make to back to senior footy.
Vandenburg Not in great form. Poor skills. Can he be dropped?? What about play him in a forward pocket and provide bash and crash in the forward line.
Dawson 4 handballs for the night. Poor return? If he was to go back to Box Hill have we got anyone how can play FB keeping in mind croad and Franklin are already out injured and Jaccobs in doubt?

Yes, brace ourselves for more beltings and we will have to endure such whilst we are in two stages of redevelopment.

What is required: (1) Develop a team with attacking backmen, mid-fielders and other forwards focusing on an agile strong grabbing chesty CHF, a-la Jonathan Brown, and a solid CHB who is steadfast in defence working in with flankers to stonewall the opposition, one who can initiate moves down the corridor. (2) Develop depth with players of AFL senior status to cover injuries and illness. Such are the ingredients of the top sides. It takes time to redevelop but the concern is how much longer do we supporters go on espousing this.... another ten years?

Having been a supporter of Clarkson believing since he started with us that we have at last in the modern era a coach to which we can look for greater achievements from our team. But I find myself in agreement with melb will. His post should be directed to AC for some answers.

AH, I believe one of the reasons is our players constantly fail to position themselves not to be under the pump in readiness for a team mate passing to them, hand or foot, especially when the latter themselves are under pressure and looking for options. The top teams' players have the ability to do this.

Dowler is our future FF.

So let's fast track him to the position and leave him there to establish himself as the team's full forward

And why the hell cant our team bounce back from a thrashing the way in which the Tigers have done against Adelaide this afternoon?
