I know this could easily be put on the scumpires board but this is an issue that could become rampant.

Try and put any bias aside and tell me how this is a dangerous tackle?

Gaff was not slung into the ground, it was not a spear tackle, it was not in the back and it was not high.

They say that Dempsey tipped him even though Gaff jumped into the tackle initially but he accentuated the lift.

What Dempsey did is exactly what the point of a tackle is, people say the bump is dead but a tackle is a fundamental aspect of contact sports and this sort of action should be rewarded not punished.

According to the article, Ball says, "But what the umpires are looking for is a player being tackled in a vulnerable position where his arms are pinned, or as you can see there, the lift and the slight turn, or whether the player is driven into the ground with excessive force.

"The umpire in that situation was in a pretty good position to see that view there, and we think that's a good decision to be paid."

Gaff's arms aren't pinned...

My gut feel watching it was :
a) a very good tackle
b) Gaff put himself in a pretty vulnerable position (not all his fault, bad handball)
c) Dempsey did well to not bury him, I think he actually tried to protect Gaff

Umps got this one wrong, which is fine, but they still wrong.

Gaff caused it by jumping up into him. What's Dempsey meant to do? Try hold him up in the air in a bear hug?
and Gaff also made himself "vulnerable" by refusing to let go of the ball (and possibly pinged for incorrect disposal). He was able to protect himself and avoid his head hitting the ground but elected not to do it.

It's not fine if they can't admit that they ****ed up.

Does Gaff actually jump into the tackle?

It looks like it to me, don't care why they say it was a shizen decision and is so typical of the umpire protection, the league can't say they got it wrong.

1st they take out the bump. Now they starting on any tackle that might hurt the player.
Can somebody remind them it is a contact sport.
