Having lost three players in Robertson, McNamara is a smokey, he got a couple of games late but that may have been because Bailey wanted to see if he as worth keeping. Given our large number of tall defenders, he might be seen as surplus, although I thought he did a few good things.
McNamara was the youngest player drafted in 2007, so in football terms he should be considered a 1st year player. Sean Wellman's comments about him seem to suggest that he'll be around next year. I hope so.

No we shouldn't.

Watts
Miller
Martin
Newton

That's all the KPF's we have we can't afford to get rid of Newton because that leaves us with just Watts, Miller and Martin.
I don't even think Martin is a KFP, but I still think you are wrong.

With marking power from Bate, Jurrah and Sylvia up forward we can go with only one or even none of Miller and Newton. We shouldn't list clog with big forwards, we didn't do it with defenders and look how well Frawley and Garland developed over the last two years.

In our position there is no point keeping a player just because you might have an injury crisis and run out of guys for that spot. If we are to keep Miller and Newton it is either because we think they are good enough or they are contracted and no one else wants them.

Sylvia won't be used as a marking target up forward, I see him as playing in the guts or off the half forward flank and very rarely going deep inside 50. He's better and more valuable playing in the middle and just outside of the 50 because of his ability to kick the long goals.

Bate and Jurrah are better off playing as 3rd and 4th talls, although it seems Bate could be spending some time in the midfield next season.

It's hardly list clogging by having 4 (or 3 if you aren't going to count Martin as a KPF) KPF's on the list, besides I believe Newton is good enough to make it at AFL level. If he was given an extended run next season to prove himself then I think we would see that he can play a role in our forward line.

McNamara - out of contract, 50/50 chance

McNamara shouldnt be compared with the players from his draft such as Morton and Grimes. Has been injured the majority of his 2 years and is definately one who should be kept. Was the youngest player in his draft so give him time to mature. Also if hes grown could probably play as a KPD so we need him just in case of Garland. If we have enough KPP i could see him becoming a tall wingman has good pace and endurance and a strong mark

Since Brocks departure theres been huge speculation in relation to Davey being traded to Collingwood or Essendon. I really hope this was a rumour and Melbourne offer him a 3 year deal and a deal is done asap. Can some one confirm when this happens please.

Theres been rumours about Jurrah returning home, and trading Bartram and Dunn. Can someone please clear up this speculation with a good source.

Not trying to be a smart ass mate but take those supposed rumours as pinch of salt they all orginiated on bigfooty and i suspect most are bull shit.

Esepically the Jurrah one some clown posted that on the amin board in the wake of Mclean leaving, then someone made a bullshit thread bout Davey, he won;t leave he is just trying to secure a three yr deal and deservedly so.

i personally think melb would be silly not to trade davey if he wants to go to ess. pick 10 plus a player. that would give melb how many 1st round draft picks? melb arent challenging for a flag anytime soon. they should stock up while they can before GC gets in.

Why becuase your an essendon supporter? I would not accept pick 10, Mclean was a good deal for pick 11 considering we have a similar players to fill his role. Davey is more important, we don;t have ne other player like him wit his pace and foot skills, not to mention his leadership among the other aboriginal boys and the entire club.

We need experienced players like him, Bruce, Green to lead the way for the youngsters. Top 20 draft picks are not everything.

Good man. I'm also confident they'll stay but there was definately doubt created in my mind as the Mclean deal come from no where.

Fair enough. :thumbsu:

We need to keep
Miller (we need a mature big body in the forward line)
Buckley (was injured all year, has a big upside to him)
Dunn ( was good this year and gets to go around again)
Buckley and Dunn are pretty good,Miller is ordinary.

Having lost three players in Robertson, Wheatley and Whelan, plus McLean's inevitable trade, you would think we need to get rid of a further 2-4 senior players.

Bartram and Miller are out of contract, so they would have to be on thin ice. Cheney, McNamara are Spencer also out of contract, but Valenti is a very handy squad player while Spencer is a major work in progress. McNamara is a smokey, he got a couple of games late but that may have been because Bailey wanted to see if he as worth keeping. Given our large number of tall defenders, he might be seen as surplus, although I thought he did a few good things. I am unsure about Bell's contractual status, but if he is out of contract then I feel he will be delisted. Johnson will be safe, unless we trade for another ruckman (doubtful though). Newton still has a year to run on his contract, but that doesn't necessarily make him 100% safe. Buckley could be trade bait, but I would like to give him another shot.

So to summarise...

Cheney - out of contract, very likely to stay
Miller - out of contract, likely to stay
Spencer - out of contract, likely to stay
McNamara - out of contract, 50/50 chance
Bartram - out of contract, 50/50 chance
Newton - contracted, likely to stay
Johnson - unsure of contract, likely to stay
Bell - unsure of contract, 50/50 chance
Buckley - unsure of contratc, 50/50 chance

I usually don't like any delisting in the club but i take a chance at Simon Buckley might come good like Andrew Carrazoo did. I remember he did o.k when i seen him play although i don't know if he would be wanted by our club.

I guess Riley and Ratten being in Melbourne can get him to play like he did.

I didn't mind Buckley in 2008, thought he showed a bit. If I was in charge, I would keep him on. But the above post by me is more of a prediction/assessment rather than my personal opinion. Not sure if Buckley was injured all year, but I don't think he cracked a game which makes you think that he was struggling big time.

Struggled with injury all year. Was pumped for a big season from him, hopefully he sticks around and can put in some good performances.
