It's possible you are confusing cause and effect here.

Let's be honest here, you're the mate.

Nah mate live a pretty good life very lucky and thankful

Don't understand why you would say something like that just being a keyboard hero I guess.

Perhaps his behaviour is a result of depression and not the cause of it.

Ok fair enough perhaps it is any advice we have tried to help him with work etc

I'm a drug and alcohol counsellor an deal with depressed people a lot as mental, health is linked to subatomic use

Please people get help, counselling isn't scary once you get past the first sessions or two

Medication can help but isn't always necessary either ...lifestyle, diet, exercise, working on your relationships.....also finding a job your happy in can all have profound impact on your mental health

Taking on a new challenge .....a new hobbie ....

And please and this might sound bizarre but we need to get of our phones, iPads and tvs and everything electronic more ...as in reduce our use of these things and get outside more ..

Two quotes sit above my work desk

It's not bad weather it's just wrong choice of clothing

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over and expecting a different result ....

Please get professional help people and good luck to you all

Strong user name to occupation :p. You'll need all your MI skills to address your clients' subatomic use (sounds like a scary drug indeed)

Good with crazy people whom are addicted to anything ..crap speller

It's not as bad as many people make out .....drug counsellor not spelling

It's a slow process , my number one attribute if you like is patience - everything good ever achieved on earth takes time.

Depression ....1 in 3 will get it or have it at some point ..staggering stat isn't it ...?

Which oddly I think the planet and it's people is doing a great good job of not imploding when you consider 1 in 3 will get it at some point. It's not a death senatnce. It's interesting that the one of the things that causes problems is our brain but it's the organ that will often lead us out of depression also. Friend one day Fo the next if you like

I'm developing some programs for youth with depression and one thing is clear and evident ....we must get people moving off thier couches and into the community again. Simply moving means that dopamine gets released which is what is deficient in people with depression ....dopamine is the feel good chemical in our brain

If we can move we can get a job ....if we can move we can exercise .....and so on

If you have a mate or family member with drapession don't take a 6 pack of beer around to them and drink it with them.....grab your runners or golf gear or bike and go pick up them up and do something together .....go and have a healthy meal somewhere

Re-connection to the community and world is imperative for recovery

Medication has it's place for many people ...but medication only helps ....it's not the answer to all of the issues ...in fact often medication can have side effects that compound depression if the wrong one is used or it's mixed with drugs and alcohol.

If it's not working after a few months (yes most meds take that long to work properly) get it checked ....try something else

While I'm a counsellor my sister experiences servre depression and I have had small bouts of it when I was younger also. I grew up in low soco economic area where crime was rife and violence was common .....but in many ways I learned empathy from that experience which is critical for my job. I turned my struggles into a tool I can use.

I also use mindfullness ....it's kind of like meditation but not as intense and can be done with eyes open ...it's based on what the Chinese do and they have been doing it for ten thousand years so I'm figuring it must work and it does....you could be doing it and no one knows your doing it.

Plenty of great mindfullness vids on YouTube ......this gives person with a mental illness a content mind maybe for an hour or two ...instead of reaching for drugs or alcohol

Anyways time for me to go ......back to work

Chin up everyone who is experiencing it ...get help pleas
