Derby Day

Got Rockferry at longish odds $21 (not as long as some of you lot have it at) and it's run at Geelong on was fantastic. Should be pretty close.

I had a double of So You Think / Shamoline Warrior so hoping for that but really like the look of Rockferry also. Whats the likelyhood of Our Heir Apparent getting a run?

I got on Hanks before the Vase at $25, so I have to ride him home. (But forgot to back him on the day)

Still think the only thing that will beat Shamoline Warrior is the distance, he looks like being a real star in the making.

But good horses are constantly being beaten over the 2500m at Flemington, as shown last year by WhoBe.

Will be interesting to see the fields for the other races when they are released, hopefully the Mackinnon and the others have strong fields also.

Does anyone know anything about the OTI runner Tamland? Did it shorten from 100s to 50s on the back of stable money or just because most of the ones that went around at Geelong were terrible? Won reasonably in a pretty average race over 1600 last Sunday at Seymour.

Really, really looking forward to Derby Day. The Derby itself looks to be a cracker with no less than 6 winning chances. Was impressed by the win of Hanks on Saturday. His run to line was screaming "I am looking for longer still". Shamoline Warrior is deserved favourite. Ollie jumps onto Onemorenomore. Can Rockferry, Our Heir Apparent and Southern Skye carry their Geelong form into the biggest race of their young lives? One thing is for sure, Monaco Consul is too short for mine, and needs some rain in a hurry to challenge this group.

Great to hear that So You Think is backing up in the MacKinnon Stakes. It will be interesting how C.Williams will handle the youngster as G.Boss took the Cox Plate into his own hands without much advice from Lord Bart.

The Salanger has and always will be a cracker. Expecting First Command to come out here and go whack. Will All Silent run in the Salinger or follow the same path as last year, AAMI Stakes over 1400 and then the Emirates. And will Hot Danish return to winning form!!

Add the Coolmore, Myer Classic and others, this day will be a ball-tearer!!

Weather is looking pretty warm, maybe nudging 30c.

Bring it on!!

could be way off the mark but reckon the geelong derby trial form could provide trifecta in derby

rockferry was slaughtered in the run last week. is a live chance.

hoping lord pyrus gets a run on the day - perhaps in the last race. will be 33s or better

mckinnon is one of the toughest races to get right. second thought Cox Plate failures agianst stayers one the rise. If a leg of quad consider taking the field.

Chris Waller has suggested than Rangrangdoo will run in the MacKinnon if it's not "too strong". Don't know too many G1's over 2000m on Australia' premier raceday that aren't "too strong".

Chris, just a tip, keep the powder dry til Emirates Stakes. Rangi will be back next year, bigger and better than ever. He will have a hell of a fight in the Emirates against All Silent and co!!

I think All Silent is going to the Patinack on the last day then Hong Kong

Gutted All Silent isn't running thought he was a certainty over the 1400m.

Already like Hume in the old Saab at some value I would think, Shamoline Warrior, Typhoon Tracy will be short.

Mackinnon and Salinger look brilliant.

Hopefully that is what the rest of Australia's punters are thinking as well.

Not that the quiet Moroney camp are on record as him being there best horse since Xcellent. Not that all of his best work has been when he is on top of the ground. Not that he is sired by gun sire of stayers High Chaperral. Not that his breeding is choc full of staying blood from the above through to Star Way, Military Plume & Sir Tristram.

Just because he is going under the radar because he hasn't raced in Melbourne doesn't mean he isn't the horse to beat. Long may it continue. :)

Punters have had a couple of weeks to digest the win of Monaco Consul in Sydney and they still put Shamoline Warrior as a warm favourite. I personally think that $3.40/$3.60 for Shamoline Warrior is under the odds. Come Saturday, with the possibility of a shower/storm Friday and Saturday, I would be expecting $5 the field.

Monaco Consul is kept very safe in the market. Blood lines are impeccible. Moroney' form with stayers is Xcellent. :D

Really looking forward to the race on Saturday!!!

The Mackinnon is a ripper race!

So many different formlines through the race and so many of them stand up.

I love Derby day, can't wait.

and will be shorter than the last moral in the same race

I think she was even money from memory. I think Typhoon Tracey will be similar odds on the day.

Alinghi was 1.70 favourite and lost several years back. She was considered a moral too.

I think you mean Forensics, she was a moral in this race last year, easiest $3 chance ever.

TT should shit it in, surprised they haven't taken that cat Jolie's Shinju back yet, they are keeping it here for more punishment.

I know the wrap Moroney has on Monaco Consul but am heartened to read that the last 25 Derby winners
all had their most recent start within 14 days of the Derby.

Hanks is not running in the Derby. Trainer and connections have decided that he has done his job this prep and is going out for a spell.

In a blow to the day itself, Bart has decided against running So You Think in the McKinnon. He will run So You Think in the Emirates on Saturday week. Bart is also bypassing the McKinnon with Roman Emperor. Bart is happy with his work and his next run will be in the Cup. Viewed is definitely running in the McKinnon.

What are your thoughts on Carrara in the Derby? Didn't see the 4th? at the Valley but was brave in the Caulfield Guineas.
