Sorry but thats just false. Umpires are part of the game and they impact games aswell. They arent the reason a team wins or loses but they sure as hell can contribute to it

I respectfully disagree. The umpires, the weather, the state of the ground, the crowd, how much the ball is inflated and many other factors influence the game, but in my opinion, the combined impact is minimal to the point of being insignificant.

Whether the players are standing in front or behind their opponent when the ball is bounced matters more, let alone team selection, skill execution, effort and everything else the players and coach bring.

But, of course, you are most welcome to express your opinion.

I'm wondering if Australian Rules and AFL are different.

Absolutely Helen. They play Aussie Rules at the park at the end of my street. I play Aussie Rules. Both my kids play Aussie Rules.

AFL is the just competition at the top of Aussie Rules, but the game is much bigger, broader and more beautiful than the 18 teams they put on channel 7 for Bruce to call.

Interesting. As a board member of AFL NZ, we prefer to brand the game locally as AFL due to local jaundice against participating in a sport branded Aussie.

Hah! That's funny, Kiwi. I am close with many New Zealanders - all great people (they're just like Australians except with better manners and grammar), and they are indeed an attractive shade of parochial yellow.

I don't think there's a single Aussie Rules fan that doesn't find the AFL a little whiffy at times, so perhaps the Kiwis will get a nostril full at some point too... Can we call our magnificent game All Rules? Awesome Rules? Astounding Rules? Antipodes Rules?

Surely there are some people on this board with marketing skills and better ideas than me.
