desperately seeking coaching experience

I don't want to get too excited yet about this news, too many let downs in the past. Craig at the club would be magnificent.

I've always thought adelaide were one of the best coached teams going around. the way the ran the ball from the backline in the mcleod and goodwin era was great to watch. Craig has the experience and nous that the tigers need

A gun coach is just as important (if not more) than a gun player. Would be huge for the club

I gotta respect the the guy for at least one thing. The guy has principles!!!

I remember Frawley on the TV said Craig had to drop him off before his Port appointment as coaches mentor or whatever after Craig left the Crows cause he was getting too close to the Port home base to stomach.

Classic, gotta love that!!!!!

I think if Craigs main focus is development particularly in the physical/fitness development etc.. area he would be of great benefit. Particularly individual footy development:thumbsu:

Without being harsh, if he is ring fenced away from recruitment, match day team selection, and match day strategy it should work.

The thing that worries me is the apparent(perceived clash) issues with Walker etc.. If this type of influence (wouldn't have a clue what the problem was with certain players)can be separated from on field performance(eg. relative to the context of the goal is premiership winning team creation)
regarding appraisal he would be of definite benefit

Very true. I think he will have a general role over-seeing many things, particularly, fitness/physical development but also be able to assist on match day as well. Think this is a better appointment that just getting an ex-head coach to be head assistant. That would be treading on toes.

Doubt he will have any say in recruitment or any of the other stuff though he may help out on match day.

The bottom line is the maintenance of the ultimate goal of the development of a premiership team generally along a loosely defined realistic measured credible project time frame. As long as any other potential behavioural inclinations do not get in the way of this goal eg. no room for dysfunction from the ultimate goal, there should not be a problem

The other issue was the his apparent(based on media representations) lack of recognition of the deficiencies of where the crows list was at regarding certain components. This can happen to anyone particularly when they get too close so what is important is the development methods evaluations and assessments utilised are objective as much as possible with credible benchmarks and tools with appropriate track records to draw integrity and confidence from including utilising consultation and alternative validation techniques!!

I believe Walker is going to have the same issues with our new Coach, next year.

The guy is an incredible talent, but he can be lazy and soft; no Coach is going to tolerate that on a regular basis.

Yes, I have no issue with a coach expecting his forward to apply defensive pressure.

If that is the case among the broad consensus , why were they not transparent?? Perform or you will be up for trade. Advertise for a a new full forward on the crows website, wanted new full forward who can defend, apply here, these players are in a privileged position, they are not eggshells, they have to become men some day!!!

I wonder if our interest in Craig is linked to the recent ties we made with Athletes' Performance overseas. Sounds like the kinda thing he would really go for.

good point, damn sure it would impress him no end considering his background in sports science, this guy is a must to take this club rungs up the ladder

Not necessecarily the case. Neil Craig will already have his own opinions on the sports science of football and may not be too keen on an organisation thousands of miles away having a part time involvement.

Anyway without a doubt I am keen as mustard for the RFC to land Neil. I'm a big fan of the way he goes about things and think he would bring much needed experience to the club in both coaching and sports science.

...the fact that you and plenty of others have been abusing me all year for being right? ;):thumbsu:

.

I accept rayz that you built a case some time back, I should be quoted somewhere along the journey that was 2011 as saying id like to take a balanced view of the year before putting a lynch mob together mid season. 24 Rounds later and I reckon the only difference between the RFC and the few sides who finished in the bottom of the 8 that we defeated was the experience in guiding a team through the pitfalls of a season...whilst we floundered for prolonged periods...the ESS and SYD rebounded and built on their year...we have no less talent at our disposal on field...tis on the sidelines that we slipped behind when the whips were crackin

It would be a major coup if we can get Niel Craig on our coaching panel. Everybody has already mentioned many of the positives he'll bring to the club. But one thing that no-one mentioned is between Richmond finally pulling itself together and appointing more professionals with experience to the coaching panel, it'll be easier to attract players from other teams to play for us.

Needs more antidisestablishmentarianism  :D

He should play the same opertaional role as Neil Balme at GFC.

And goodbye Craig "never done anything successful at any footy club I've ever been involved with" Cameron
