Someone please tell me im not the only one who finds this 'Surf and strum' genre of music to be amongst the worst music movements to ever have gained some form of critical acclaim. Pete Murray please do Australia a favor and go away and send in some real rock pigs on your way out.
My god it is shxxt.

What's so wrong with it, some of it is quite relaxing music ?

Like both Pete Murray and Jack Johnson.

Put them back 25-30 years ago and i wouldn't, but given the state of today's current music, it is refreshing to see two guys who are actually looking to get a note out of their guitar rather than just a noise.

Not the most particularly talented musician's in the world (particularly J Johnson), but in it's own strange kinda way it's good because you can sit in the backyard of a mate's house and someone can pull out a guitar and we'll pass it around and most of us can get out one of their tunes and sing along.

I can think of many many many musicians whom i would much less prefer to be listening to.

And yes, they are quite relaxing.

I love rock just as much as anyone, but the problem is that the genre is very average at the moment, and is full of Nirvana wannabes.

Nirvana are a great band, and produced some fantastic music, but in a way they are the worst thing to happen to music because just about every band looking to produce rock music tried to copy them.

Bands like Creed, Nickelback, and so and so forth. Too many to name.

I agree with what a lot of people have said... at least they'r playing real music. Pete Murry's cd is excellent. On high rotation in my house.

Thank you.....why is it Australia has decided to take this surf and strum garbage to its heart as the epitome of quality music and coolness and girls are having orgasms over 'sexy' pete. Please. If i want to relax ill take a couple of valiums.

I think that's a pretty unfair comment, but you are indeed entitled to your opinion. The world would be a pretty boring place if rock was the only genre of music in existence. If anything, you should be thanking Pete for making you realise how much you love rock music :)

I guess. It just shxts me how Pete is suddenly viewed as being so cool by the same sort of oh im so cool Secret Life Of Us Demogaphic.
Why not buy some old Nick Drake records for gods sake.

I can listen to one Murray or Johnson song, and thats enough.

A friend once put on a JJ CD for me thinking Id like it. After 4 songs I had to ask her if it's ok to turn it off.

Bland, repetitive, and well...... just bland.

I can almost tolerate Alex Lloyds first record "Black The Sun" actually. Pete, Jack and friends (i wont include Ben Harper as at least he has some diversity of sound) i just dont get it im afraid. Why do all these 'cool' twenty somethings think this is the shxt? Have any of these clowns made a video for any of their singles that dont involve beaches, surfing etc?Come to think of it I saw a video on rage for 'Sexy' Pete and it was like cut from live footage and it basically had all these chicks carrying on as if the guy was the living reincarnation of Jeff Buckley or something. Once again, why dont these people just go and buy a Nick Drake record?

Pete Murray, Alex Lloyd and Jack Johnson (how apt) - at the acme of the boring charts..

Right...now my button's been pushed :) ...and I have to come rushing to the defence of my darling Alex Lloyd. Yes Amazing (unless it's being performed live) is a very boring song, but he's more and uses more styles than just a simple guitar folk rock of Jack Johnson and Pete Murray.

Bollocks!

Alex Lloyd started the whole "boring" music genre. He is to blame - all his songs are sung in the same monotone - what can you possibly like about it?

Well, maybe not started - but was definitely amongst the first. Him and youami. Tim Rogers is just as bad.

Well seeing as I've bought everything he's ever released and see him live everytime he comes to Adelaide...everything I guess.

I could sit here and say that it's not true and point to examples that his songs aren't all in a "monotone" etc, but I see no point in trying to sway you, it's not your taste so you won't agree, I probably can't be convinced some of the music you love is any good. So I'll continue to adore him and you can continue to hate him, and we'll both be happy.

I dont hate him - just think he is boring. monotonous. dull. bland.

By JJ I meant Jack johnson. But I was reffering to both him and the Petestar.

I live on the Gold Coast mate, and if you'd ever spent some decent time here you may understand that Id be lost without the J's so not bagging them at this stage. ;)

OI.. And you CANNOT go dragging Tim Rogers or Ben Harper into this

No, you most certainly can't. The J's is excellent and so is SEN 1116 for all your daily sports fix.
