Get contacted during the week by the club seeking a donation to the FTF?

I am a member of the club and got a phone call around Tuesday night along the lines: "Wasn't it a great win against GWS? Are you interested in [thinly disguised excuse for donation to the FTF]?"

I told them I was happy with the win, but if they wanted more money from me they should call me after the team puts in a decent effort two weeks running. I won't be holding me breath for a call back.

I don't know whether the club takes us for suckers, but it seems pretty poor form to be asking members (who have already paid to see the shit this club has been dishing up this year) to dip into their pockets for more money and then deliver that performance. Embarrassing.

I'm downgrading my membership next year. Having none of this shit, sick of throwing my money down the drain. Will always be a member though. They;re taking the piss though, it's fair too say and very disappointing. What I hate more is when they plug their gambling sponsors on Facebook/Twitter. Seriously, GTFO.

It's a vicious circle.

I completely agree with you about not feeling like wanting to put any more money into the club, but at the same time, the more money we put into the club, the more chance we have of turning it around.

Clubs like Collingwood, Hawthorn, West Coast, and Sydney have built their success based on strong financial positions. And one of the main reasons clubs like Richmond have been so shit for so long, is because for so long, we've been broke as hell.

If we want our club to be prestigious and successful again, well that requires money. Yes, we need to see better performance on the field, but that piece of the puzzle is usually the last piece that falls into place.

Collingwood have played finals 8 years running (9 years if they make it this season), but 7 years before that streak started, they were broke. Then Eddie took over, and had their books back in the black. It was on the back of that off-field performance that got them into consecutive grand finals, and then ultimately the big one in 2010, and the aforementioned finals streak.

That could be us in the next 5-10 years, but for that to happen, we need to stick fat, and give what we can to the club, so that it is as equipped as possible to do this.

And for anybody that says "why waste the money when they aren't performing", well, why would you waste money on getting smashed on the weekends? All THAT does is give you an hour or two of happiness, and then a ****ing terrible hangover in the morning! Yet people are happy to do that, and don't usually question the value of spending money on doing it either.

FTF was to build the clubs football department , this year we downgraded our football department as we haven't replaced Campbell and Leppa . Smoke and mirrors

They'll just waste the money anyway.

I have bugger all faith in both Gale and the Mouse President to build on-field success. They can build a business with good facilities,
but not a great AFL team.

Time to wipe the board. There failure to inject adequate funds into the football department is unforgivable. Idiots.

funnily enough , If they called me and asked me to contribute again with the proviso that they were raising money to pay out Hardwicks contract I'd say yes just to get our game up and running and to get back to playing the football we know we are capable of playing .

you know rusty, we do know we can play, the players are NOT playing for the coach, the Dimma has created cliques amongst the playing group, dimmas boys (barometers) and the rest, no one wants to support each other two maybe three different cliques in there.

Tell them to **** off mate.

Haven't had a call for a few months now but I guess my number will pop up soon.

Calling when the performances are as they currently are would be similar to getting a call from the Federal Liberal party asking me to dig a bit deeper.

Poor effort by the club to continue to harass and exploit the emotive heart and soul of this club

i already pay for a Membership seat (3121) that i don't even use as i sit elsewhere so won't be donating extra, especially based on the performances they are "paying us back" with at the moment. it's not like i have spare cash laying around as it is...

Yep, got the call. Nope, didn't buy a ticket.

The price I paid for my membership should be given a free raffle ticket.

The call isn't entirely a donation though, the money gets donated if you don't win. (yes, still a fund raiser for FTF)

They are selling 3,000 max. raffle tickets to members, so you're a 1 in 3,000 chance to win 30k. After they raise $600,000 ($200 a ticket:confused:) and give the 40k in prizes away they have raised 560k for the FTF.
