It's weak. Should never, ever embrace losing.

Id like you to read Thierry Henry's interview almost immediately after LOSING the Champion's League final. He not only talked it up, but applauded his players for their endeavour against the odds.

ESPN should still have the article on their front page under soccer.

Granted, losing isn't acceptable...but if the closest we can get patting our players on the back in defeat by clapping them, Ill defintely be applauding next time we take it right up to a flag favourite and lose competitively.

If it were a :D:D:D:D poor performance, I wouldnt bother, but that endeavour out there looked EVEN BETTER than the game against Sydney.

Again, I reiterate that we wont win more than 4-5 games this season...so if that means I get to clap more than 5 times at game's end this season...its NOT a total write off for me.

Ill clap anyone for their endeavour alone if defeat was imminent.

NOTHING WEAK ABOUT THAT!

Showing support and giving credit where credit is due, I have no problem with.
Showing pride that your club had a crack, I have no problem with.

But a standing ovation with a full compliment of floggers and pom-poms. That's a concern.

Surely there's more upsetting things at a football game, albeit watching your side lose than a cheersquad doing their bit.

Last I recall, it was the DUTY of a cheersquad member...win, lose or draw to scream to the heavens and wave anything in their club colours under any circumstances in showing their support.

I think it was bloody nice of them to show our colours, despite them being lowered for the seventh time this season by a far superior team. they were merely showing their support for the effort shown in 95% of the game. Remember, we only lost it for 5 mins in the final quarter....enough for them to sling a few in succession.

How is clapping the players off after a close loss encouraging them to lose. You've all gone mad if you think thats what's going to happen. In parenting if your child makes an effort but doesn't do to well, you're certainly not going to turn your back and walk away.

I agree with Longy in that the wild waving of the pom-poms was certainly going overboard and shouldn't have happened, but a warm applause while the players leave the arena will not do any harm.

We have the worst cheersquad in Australia from what i've seen....unfortunately.

Nothing wrong with cheering them off though, the boys really put in today, but in the end the classier full strength outfit was always going to prevail.

Win, lose, draw, premiership, wooden spoon - will renew my membership every year till the day I kick the bucket (hopefully a while to go)!

GO DONS

That's the thing that really got me. Much better ways to go about it.

So, you're going to measure the level of appreciation you give our players if they lose now after a fighting loss? This is ridiculous! Warm applause, pompoms, floggers, cheering....all the same if you ask me.

Damned if you do, damned if you dont!

remember that game at windy hill against the eagles when we were left with 15 fit players and nearly pulled off a minor miracle? did the fans clap the players off that day? If there was a time a team deserved a clap off for giving it their all it was that day.

I was there. It was 91 I think..top of the table clash if I recall. Read Windy Hill memories. I did stand up and clap that loss also. You're dead right, they thouroughly deserved it. We had a young Long and some forward cum back pocket player by the name of Wanganeen too;)
