Not directly. But it's a bit like saying noone will buy KFC because their logo is on a Collingwood jumper - and in a way it's true - the mechansim by which it works isn't that direct. Meanwhile companies pay enormous money for sponsorship deals as it does increase sales.
People will especially if we are given a member’s discount

Of course it does. A big KFC emblem on our jumper makes people form an association - for some that will be a positive if they are KFC fans - for more it will be a negative as even those who like it know it's cheap crap.
Opinion based crap. You think KFC will lose revenue and customers because more people will now see a KFC logo on a Collingwood jumper??
You think people stopped buying Holdens because they sponsored Collingwood?
You think people will stop shopping at Coles because they sponsor Collingwood?
Emirates? Nike? These two have question marks around human rights and slave labour, yet they still have success in product awareness by their sponsorship.
Businesses use sponsorship to promote their product positively, and it works.

Some people will find negatives if Mother Theresa sponsored Collingwood!!

Sponsorship is a two way street. Not only are they being associated with us, but we're also being linked them. We don't want our brand linked to cheap crap. They'd want to be paying an absolute truckload as it weakens our brand.

Bang on. Well said.

By the way you are aware that the AFL is sponsored by Carlton Draft, Coca Cola, McDonalds, Sportsbet, Jim Beam, Monster Energy, Wolf Blass, Wonder White (Racist name), etc.

Totally agree with your point, but how is “Wonder White” a racist name?

To me it isn't about it being a particular product type. It's about it being low quality.

So NIKE just signed as the kit sponsor of the KFC big bash. They are going to be so turned of hahahahahahaha

We would not have signed on a new sponsor like KFC without at least a courtesy chat with our existing sponsors (including Nike). Clearly they didn’t have a problem.

WOW Bigfooty people taking the high moral ground around KFC, embarrassing - FMD sponsors are sponsors and KFC is an iconic brand known around the world and sponsor many sports (and clubs bigger than us).

You can’t blame people for having pride in their footy club guernsey, and having opinions about the brands that get emblazoned across it?

I guess that’s one reason why brands sponsor in the first place - to sanitise their reputation.

No, whoever pays more money gets the space.

This is like business 101, honestly...
