Just watching st kilda and 2 blokes having a blinder are milera and saad. Now saints got these 2 small forwards and pick 25 for pick 20 from gws. We obviously rated Elliott over these 2 players. I know it is very early days but did we make right decision.

Now i haven't seen Elliott play and i will understand if people say it's too early to judge but it creates some discussion.

I also realise we got Marty so i have no problem gliving our first pick. Did we get the right steak knives.

I think Saad would've been a good pickup, he had a really good season in the VFL last year. You can't have everything though, the club picked Elliot, who am I to second guess Hine.

You keep answering your own questions.... So what are you asking?

Elliot has by far the superior skills, especially his overhead marking... Patient grasshopper...

I was mainly asking for people that have seen Elliott play and just to start some discussion.

I think i got my answer and that Elliott is the goods.

If this is a pointless thread, please close Mods.

Are you serious?! You're comparing an 18/19 year old who has played 3-4 VFL games coming bak from injury to two mature age recruits?!

Wait until Elliott has played an AFL match before we speculate Hine's decisions!

I'm pretty happy with our forward stocks now. More than enough depth.

Long term I personally like Caolan Mooney most. Showing some really handy development at VFL level and looks like he could be better than the lot. With every week is showing rapid improvement and I don't see why he can't get games at some stage later this season. Has exceptional pace, tackling ability very good, reasonable overhead mark and skills not bad either.

So to answer the question I'm comfortable with our choice of going after Marty and Jamie. St Kilda have got some nice value in Saad and Millera which is fantastic for them but I'm not too worried that we have missed out on the pair.

saad is 22 and milera is 24 so you could probably expect a little more from them at this stage. milera looks quite good and he'd fit in nicely at the moment, but elliot looks like a player so i'm pretty comfortable with that decision at this stage. if elliot wasn't showing much i admit i'd be a little restless knowing our window is open now.

Never quite understood casting judgement when half of what your saying can't even be qualified. You're saying the Pies may have messed up because a couple of players another team picked up played a good game of ball, yet the one we picked up hasn't even stepped into the seniors yet? There isn't any judgement to be made right now, Saad is a beauty, Milera is pretty good as well - but who the hell knows what lies in store for Mr. Jamie.

Milera reminds me of players who play 3 or 4 very good games each year. He's great to watch but tonight he was playing against a side who also have the lion's share of outside footballers. When the going gets tough, he'll go missing.

I don't know anything about the specific players. But I could imagine that had we forseen 4 long term injuries to senior players, plus a handful of short term niggles, then perhaps a couple of mature bodies would be mighty handy around the club about now.

But we did get one mature body out of the deal (Clarke)

We finished second in a year with a compromised and supposedly not very strong draft.

Yet we were able to add some very promising players:

Clarke, Paine, Witts, Mooney, Yagmoor, Elliott and Williams

It's early days, but I reckon that we should be pretty bullish about last year's recruiting results.

You need to compare ages not drafts, both Saad and Milera are mature they were ready to make an impact at AFL level.

They are both older than all of Sidey, Beams, Blair and Sinclair. I'm happy with the pies 21-22 ur old small forwards / midfielders.

Ugle, Fasolo and Elliott are the younger brigade who will push out / takeover from Didak and Krak.

Our list management has been magnificent, just have to keep them all now.

Marty is the other half of the deal and he is performing at a higher level than the two St Kilda players. Elliott looks an excellent prospect though is not expected to make an impact this year. Well done to St Kilda for a successful deal but can't see the need to compare.

Similarly, Ceglar from the previous year and Krakouer were also good pick ups. No doubt someone may have appeared to do better, but with a first pick at 25, in an ordinary draft, a bit of creativity such as 2 for one, one for now and one for later, seems to have worked to our advantage.

The only point i would like to add to your post is that we have to compare players as we could have had saad or milera instead of Elliott.

I personally think the reason we took Elliott is due to better upside and better forward pressure from Jamie.

I will trust Hine.

No we didn't, we should sack Hine ASAP, and we should start tanking, sack bucks and the board and bring good ole tone back.

With 20-20 hindsight Saad and Milera as 18 year olds would have been better than Rounds and Blight.

But then again the same people with the 20-20 hindsight would have been calling for them to be delisted two years ago because they werent instant successes.

There are too many people on these boards demanding instant gratifiction.

Then why did you start the thread exactly?

Clarke was a no brainer.

Genuine best 22 and performing at a great level for a player a couple of years out of the system. Hasn't missed a beat since returning. Very good player.

Elliott is genuine quality too. Has has some we catching displays at VFL level and will play seniors.

Did we get it right? Absolutely. On Clarke alone we got it right. Elliott is a massive bonus.
