Great interview.

Mark didn't just answer in cliches. He was very open and honest (including talking about Hirdy's valuable contribution to Essendon) and intelligent.

He has the belief in himself to be a future captain of the club.

I think it was the interviewers Tim Lane, Parko, Schwabby that said they were all very impressed...

but I do believe he can be the captain.
On a number of occasions I have seem him so fired up and passionate when he is on the ground.
Whether it be towards a fellow team mate or a loss/win after the siren.

and i'm pretty glad. it was probably up until about 2006 that i had convinced myself he would want to seek a trade back to nsw and play with his brother. best error in judgment i've made in recent memory.

He also said:
- During the preseason he trained harder than ever before, including doing extra sessions in his own time. There is a chance the extra training may have contributed to his injury...
- On the eve of Hirdy's last match he gave him a letter, thanking him for everything he had given to Mark and the club. During the last years that Hirdy was at the club, Mark got closer to Hirdy. Hird spent more time with Mark and tried to teach him before he left.

He should be made captain from next year. He has the respect of the players, plays midfield and has shown captain potential for a couple of years now. Let Lloydy concentrate on doing what he used to do best.

Tend to agree, I love Lloyd as much as the next bloke BUT I have severe reservations about full forwards as captains. Wouldn't mind Hille as potentially a captain if he continues his form.

Agreed. He has taken his game to a new level over the last couple of years. You can see it with Jarred as well, this year has been his best ever. Just late bloomers. Should be next captain and wouldn't be suprised if we see that next year.

Agree 100%. Lloyd doesn't deserve to have the captaincy taken away from him mid season, but I think McVeigh's the man for the job. Apart from FF being a terrible position to try captain the team, McVeigh has really developed that same breed of steely determination and resolve to directly exert his influence on matches.... not dissimilar to the Hird.
