John Woo overdoes EVERYTHING. The most OTT director in the history of film. Need I mention the scene inside the tunnel in Mission Impossible? This guy wrecks movies that could otherwise be decent.

Well ****, this is the first Brosnan Bond film I've actually liked.
The most notable difference is probably that the technology might have been marginally more unbelievable, but for a change the character motivations weren't - the villain made a bit of sense for a change.
Also, the versatility required of James Bond the character was made a lot clearer with the contrasts between being held prisoner, and a trip to a fencing club. It was also interesting to see him act on his own initiative by requirement, and the more realistic consequences of being caught - a bit of reality introduced to the Bond lifestyle - its not all nice cells and chauffeurs.
Madonna's inclusion in both the titles and the film was a definite downside.

I thought the main villain, Gustav Graves was magnificent. I can't remember the actors name, but he nailed it. He had the evil smirk, and the perception he was always a step ahead. His number two, Zao, was also very good, because he wasn't your typivcal number 2. And by that I mean, the number 2 is usually a hitman - not the brains but the brawn (Darth Maul for instance) Zao was smart, which is not the usual trait of a number 2 villain.
