Wanna explain the correlation between hunger/fatigue and carbs/bread/wheat? Generally interested. Sort of feel myself that muesli is counter productive because even with a tiny bit of honey and lots of fruits it seems to tick something off that makes me hungry again.

Packaged Muesli is quite deceptive as it's extremely high in sugar - for every 50g there are 2 teaspoons of sugar and I'm sure you have more than 50g per serving

Same with white bread - again around 1.5 teaspoons per slice

Meals that are high in Carbohydrates release sugar quickly into the blood stream. It gives you that initial rush of energy but then of course you experience the let down and that's when you start to feel tired and hungry again and the cycle begins again when we grab a couple of biscuits. Carbs are fine as long as you balance it with protein as it slows the release of insulin and therefore keeps you feeling full for longer - so Whole grain and sourdough breads are your best choices and oats are the best option for breakfast. Personally I only have natural yoghurt with berries or stewed apples or peach etc. with a small amount of a nut mix I make myself on top or eggs of some kind with veggies and last quite comfortably until lunch. I love bread but only have it once a week because my gut hates it :(

Whiskey has around 97 calories per glass (double that if adding mixers)
Beer has around 200 calories a pint (can differ quite a bit depending on style)

If you go out one night to a pub, smash a parma and a few pints it can add heaps. Luckily I am very active but even then, age has caught up to me a bit. I've put on a couple more kilos than I should have but find it relatively easy to reign in. Have dropped 1 KG in 4 days from sticking to vegies, chicken, beans and no extra carbs. Is it tough? Kind of, the worst thing is if you're hungry, don't procrastinate about what you're going to eat. Boil an egg and smash it down before you're in the car driving to Maccas.

Preparation of meals for me would be the single biggest influence on eating well. If there's an easy, healthy option available I'd take it. If I have nothing and can't be bothered cooking then chances are I'm eating 1000 calories in one feed.

Trying to over haul diet is so friggen hard. Been going to the gym. But get hungry. Love my junkfood. Eat too much bread. Love cakes and sugar. Its very hard to loose weight.

But I'll keep trying. Only have about 5 or so to loose but still.

I'd have probably 2 days a week without meat. Tend to have something like soup and salad, pasta bake, curry, veggie tacos, vegetarian pizza etc. It's helps and makes me feel a bit more energetic. I've done well with replacing snacks with something healthy lately and dropped a couple of kilos.

I eat pretty well at home because we try to make our kids nutritious stuff. Lunch kills me a bit because I like to get out of the office and I often end up buying something. Would like to cut down on beers and manage to exercise more.

Started at about 130kgs and now down to 114kgs.
1200 is insanely low for someone that size? would have been better slowly cutting back calories. You're ****ed when you plateau now

I love a good bit of beef or lamb
In fact I have a medallion of beef eye fillet for tea at work tonight...with a a small salad and one banana
I will also eat a small tub of almonds cashews and seeds during the whole night
Thats my weekday meal....everyday, but only one bit of red meat per week.
Swap it for tuna and chicken and turkey

Too much red meat and its hard to digest
As much as I love it...its not good in excess

If you know so much why did you start the thread?

You ask for opinions and then shoot me down.

For me its worked a treat; lost 15kgs and kept if off for past 18 months by doing exactly as I said in my second non smart arse post in here.
Well done to you :)

Love bread . But don't like cakes or sugary things I, like you, have only about 2 or 3kgs to lose . But they are hard. I have been walking heaps lately , so think I will get there soon Feel much better than a month ago already .

For me I prefer to still have the occasional treat but balance it out by going to the gym. Easier said than done of course, you need to find an exercise you want to do and find time etc. Haven't lost any weight since Xmas now though, i'd probably need to sort out my diet more to keep dropping kegs.

Attempting to go vegan. Have been pre-dominantly vegetarian for the last month and a bit, had meat twice (more so meat as part of a dish than meat itself). I've never had any issues with weight so never considered diets. One could argue I'm considerably underweight actually, and I have a fast metabolism and active lifestyle to thank for that. Could smash down 3500 calories every day for a few weeks and barely add a kg on the scale. But I'm trying to be a bit more conscious with what I'm eating nutrition-wise, noticing improvements in performance since cutting out meat.

Calorie counting (3 years now)
- no alcohol
- no junk food
- no red meat
- no processed sugar
- very little processed carbs

Lost 45 kgs (from 115 to 70)

Also increased fitness. Went from having lungs burn running 100 m to running half marathons every other month.
Calorie counting is definitely the way to go if your serious about fitness. MyFitnessPal a must.
