Similar to press conference. Went on to say no shortcuts and setbacks not unexpected.

No singling out of players for poor performance.

Just a little disappointed about the "no short cuts" message, which to my mind runs counter to a few of our match day selections. Don't want to name names, but his name rhymes with Hom Tislop. To not name one.

Iddy, I have PMd it to you but you may have to highlight it by clicking control A, as it has come out blank.

Got it from Dave :thumbsu: .. thanks boys

Maintaining the company line .. would have liked a little more anger . Hopefully they are saving that for the bombers :o

Yep, nothing significant in there at all, as expected.

God, I truly hope this week hasn't been swept under the carpet internally...

I know Dimma said they would never mention the game again, but I honestly think it was a figure of speech. They would have the same reviews as normal as par for the course.
I think he was referring to the fact that this game will never be mentioned again in terms of speaking about it once it's been done and dusted.

Happy he reinforced that he will not deviate from the plan.
Not sure what people expect him to tell us. It's never going to be warts and all.

You're right, but just want to see us select the 22 that is part of this long term plan. There are some that I believe are getting selected for short term reasons.

Maybe something about disappointment at the midfielders work in clearances and defensively. Another game where we turned the ball over in back 50.

I think you're right, I hope you're right. I realise it's often truly difficult to say exactly what you are thinking in the after match PC environment. But you still get an image of a room full of sulking players being told to wipe that game from their memories, and to turn up Monday morning with fresh minds... or that kind of crap.

As most of us know, you rarely get results when teaching a toddler not to throw a tennis ball at the TV by just telling them it's ok and not to do it next time. Do we have a naughty mat down at Punt Rd? (or a cane for that matter. lol)

Happy for us to not deviate from the plan but the whole jist of this year has been our improved competitiveness from last year. There was nothing there on Saturday. We were totally non-competitive.

It's as if players just rocked up to take their pay cheques. Yes we got flogged in the ruck and in the midfield but sheesh, surely we could have read things better and snagged a few more clearances and at least made some contests around the ground. We were comprehensively smashed in every facet of the game and in every position on the field and I feel the coaches coudn't do much more on the day. If a horse doesn't want to get out of the blocks, no amount of punishment will make it move.

Thoughts?
Not sure what he could have said, but reckon it's a pretty vanilla response.
For obvious reasons, not posting the actual message.

Agree.

What also peeves me is The jumper hit the floor yet again. If i a remember correctly didn't dimma say this would never happen again while he was in charge?

Thursfield was and it reeked of "Wallace"

In fairness, we are literally scraping the bottom of the barrel with KPDs, and many have called for McGuane to be given a rest. In hindsight, you would've thought giving Gourdis another week might have been less shortcut like.

If Thursty is delisted at year's end, then I think his selection this week can be justified somewhat - as a last chance, and last resort, type situation.

I don't think there was much point singing out any group at all. You get beaten by 103 points (and save for a few junk times goals, it was a 20 goal hiding) because all the groups have let the structure down.

You know, I have thought this same thing heaps of times since the game. If my dog pisses on the kitchen floor at 5am which she does from time to time, and I get up at 7am and seeing the puddle of pee, do I rub her nose in it and yell at her? Of course not. I reinforce positive aspects by making her pee outside and then giving her a reward.
I know dog obedience has little to do with teaching footballers, but I do believe the concept is the same. People learn little from puinishment alone. Incarceration does not rehabilitate a criminal. Yes, punishment is fitting at certain times. But in the long term, when you are dealing with young people who genuinely do want to do well, that it is pointless.
I'm not saying Dimma should give them an ice cream each for training well this week. The human brain (even a footballer's) is a little more advanced than a canine.
People suggesting that the players should donate their match fees or get flogged on the track are a little misguided. It won't achieve anything.
Nobody can do anything about the Carlton loss now. Nobody.
Refocussing on Essendon this week and reinforcing that the plan will stay the same is the best thing he could have done in the public eye.

I actually agreed with the Thursfield selection in that Gourdis was so far out of his depth the previous week . But it proved to be a "Short term , reactive decision contrary to what Dimma has been trying to implement"
