Don't get me wrong Mcdonald has always been a hero of mine and I'll never forget the great things he did for our club but I thought his shirtfront on Parker was very uncharacteristic. I don't recall him ever being suspended but I do recall he was an excellent tackler and a very fair player to boot

What I was wondering was what went through his mind, was he trying to lead from the front? or was it just the way he was told to impose himself out there? I didn't think it was wise of the commentators that night to praise the act as it was wreckless and dangerous.

I guess in hindsight everyone can see that now that Parker has been sidelined with a broken jaw, but even at the time I felt it was completely necessary and had it been Mumford or Goodes 2 weeks would have been way too lenient. What are your thoughts?

I just think he was trying to send the message to the Swans that they wouldn't be pushed over so easily and he let it get to him. Was a little bit out of character but I wouldn't go so far as to call him "dirty".

considering I$$y got off for the 2 tackles he did the week before - Macca was delt a harsh wrap. Very inconsistent decisions - clearly I$$y got off for the publicity - Macca got done basically because Parker didn't see it coming and didn't brace himself for the impact so his head got hit due to the whiplash effect.

Had a lot of Brad Miller circa 2006 about it.

Enjoyed seeing Junior out there though, hope he plays against us. Multiple B&F-winning, AA Captains don't fall off trees.

I sense a conspiracy here..think about it. As other posters have said that bump very uncharacteristic of McDonald. It would not surprise me even slightly if Sheeds pulled McDonald aside and said "hey, make this club stand for something, even if it costs you a couple on sideline". Thats the type of mentality a bloke like sheeds would have, old school etc. Look at it this way, even if McDonald is suspended from playing im sure he'd definitely have some type of "mentoring" role being an assistant coach n all.

I am a huge Jimmy Mac fan... He was a great footballer for the Dees and shafted in the end; with the whole forced retirement thing (very poorly handled by the club and all involved).. So glad to see him in such good nick!

I think if you look back at his career, he had always been hard with his attack on both the footy and the man.. Just another guy, who's aggressive style is not suited to the modern game. Can't recall him being rubbed out too many times, but have seen that sort of aggression numerous times!

I know your not bagging him, but just as a warning to all BF users, if anyone has any ill words of Jimmy, then i will more than happy to get on the offensive. If he had his way, he would be still rocking the number 23 and probably doing the likes of Magner out of a spot.

Pardon the intrusion, but I$$ys reports were a joke. Did you see them?

Would have been a travesty if he had got weeks for those.

I was a bit surprised - there is a bit of an unwritten players code which protects first and second year players from that type of thing.

Given McDonalds team is 80% full of kids, I thought he left the door wide open for the senior Swans to brutalise them to be honest. If I was a senior Swan I would have lined up a GWS kid after that and made sure Macca new about it.

My opinion on I$$y's tackles are that they should've been let go - however - if consistency is what we all want - then he should've been pinged for a sling tackle. Simple as that. Also - he almost polaxed a guy due to dropping him on his head. Granted he carried the guy down to stop breaking him in half - but it's reckless in the eyes of the AFL - the proof of that can be seen in past reports/suspensions.

My comments are on consistency - which as we all know the Umpires have only one instance of - that is that they are consistently inconsistent.

Can't agree with you. He stopped the guy from landing on his head

I recognize that as per my previous statement - it was still reckless regarding alot of what other players have done and been suspended for.

Izzy reports were a joke and I thought his tackles were fine.

I think Jr deserved his suspension but I think it was an accident. Parker was set to take possession but Goodes botched the handball to him. It even looks like McDonald is trying to stop but he had already committed to the contest.

Only saw it once, looked like a great hit.

yep it was a cracker.. I no the afl really has worked hard to get it out of the game but I still love it when someone lays a cracking shirt front.. matty Whelan on Luke ball esk..
as long as the player doesn't jump off the ground and raise the elbow it is a great part of the game

Still recon 'The Wreckers' best one was against James Hird! Just a quality bump ... If you watch the footage, he stops as if he expects the remonstration, when nothing happens, he just handballs to TJ who slots it from an acute angle.

I tell you what boys, can't wait till we start winning games again... Im sick of diving into old youtube footage.

5 years ago it would have been seen as a beautiful bump and called play on. Just goes to show how much the game is changing for the worse.

Didn't help that he broke Parker's jaw. Proves he got him too high, 2 weeks sounds around about right.
