Well, what can I say? A shocking first quarter meant we were never going to win. If it wasn't for the brilliance of Davey, Green and Yze, the result could have been much larger.

Positives:

Davey: Just a machine. How can you not love this guy? Best rookie EVER.

Miller: Really happy with his game. Quick, strong overhead, and smart. Kicking has improved too, highlighted by a 50m goal in the third.

Thompson: Gun.

Yze: Having a stellar year. Almost the best player at the club.

Green: Going very well.

Wheatley, White and Heff were pretty solid.

Negatives:

Russell Robertson: ****ing hell he annoys me. I know he had a good game last week but today he was disgraceful. Showpony.

Neitz: Lets face it, he's not as good as some Melbourne fans seem to think he is. Murdered by Scarlett.

Carroll: Yeah, well done, you once beat Barry Hall. Now **** off back to WA you hack.

Armstrong = Soft. I like him, he'll be good, but he's scared at the moment.

Ward: Treading water.

Earlier in the day, Sandy got smashed. Really impressed with Bell, he'll be in the side next week I feel. Sylvia was OK, not dominant but good. Walsh was excellent. That's about it - the rest sucked!

BTW, every second Geelong supporter looks like Cameron Ling! :p

hey hey. as you know i called for robertsons head 2 weeks ago, and think its time to put him with sandy. i can't understand why miller doesn't play centre half forward all the time, he provides a good target.
My last post was about melbourne lacking accuracy with their delivery to the forward line. today it payed its price.
The biggest positive is we didn't get thrashed, and i feel we did really well to play a good qtr. i think its time though melbourne puts 4 good qtrs together week in week out and we will be competitive the whole game. Its a developing side and i think our hardest games are yet to come, so the next 5 weeks are going to tell us where we really are at.

Neitz is definatly one of the best FFs over the past few years but is just having a bad run and i think the delivery has been just as much to blame.

today, if he kicked straight and marked the 'markable' ones he probably would have only gotten 4 anyway

robbo was okay but miller was definatly the better centre half forward

positives

Yze is a yes and no, for those who were at the game you would have to know that some of his kicking was very poor.

Thompson was clearly our best he is also a very good mark

Davey, he is doing a great job at filling the void that jeff farmer left

Rivers...not his best game but if it was his worst then that shows how good a player it is

White: probably in the top 2 ruckman ATM

Negatives:

Robbo, neitz, holland i wont even both to go into furthur detail

Carroll and Nicholson....they were just 2 slow, both of them.

Bizzell: inefective but he cant do everything

What we need to do to beat Roos who found some form:

Midfield: i seriously think it functioned reasonably today but McDonald needs to return....probably at armstrongs expence.

Forward Line: If holland is gunna just get in neitz way then put him down back on one of the roos big boys

Defence: Nicholson will have to keep up with Petrie/Rocca. Rivers....just keep up wat ya are doing. Bizzel... i hope he gets back to some good form. Brown/Whelan/Ward/Wheatley need to get some run going. Carroll wont play

Considering where we were last year we have done very weill to be 6 and 2 after 8 rounds. Today was disappointing but I'm not all that unhappy about it for the following reasons;

Colin Sylvia
Brock McLean
Daniel Bell
Nick Smith
Chris Johnson

These guys are our future and they haven't even played a game yet. When was the last time the MFC had such a talented group of kids waiting in the wings? We should also wait to judge the team until after the game next week, let's see how they respond to a loss.

I was very disappointed with what seemed to be a lack of planning on Melbourne's behalf. They really didn't know how to play the ground with the wind blowing and Geelong really controlled the play early on. The comeback was great but a poor kicking for goal really cost us.

Positives:
Yze - played well and was instrumental in the comeback. Struggled when deep in the backline on Mackie.

Rivers - struggled early but came back well and held Graham to not much.

Davey - not much needs to be said, but above all else, his chasing and tackling is great. i've noticed he seems to let opponents take an uncontested mark, let them play on and chase them down from behind. its quite clever really.

Thompson - gets better and better, very hard at the ball and good skills.

Miller - great when he came on and should always be on the ground at CHF. much better than Holland. gives us a big mobile target.

Negatives:

Robbo - chocolates to boiled lollies for the man. hard to say what was wrong, but I think the Geelon defence were excellent.

Neitz - down on confidence, needs a game at Telstra Dome with the roof closed I think. maybe some kicks on the lead to him

Carroll - Poor, poor player with an even worse haircut, get off the ground and get off the list, i'd much rather Chris Lamb get a game.

Bruce - fumbled the ball every time he went near it, it was like he had a hangover.

Very disappointing today we were lucky we only lost by 14pts could have been much worse. We only played about 20 mins of good footy. And it really ****es me off when average footballers like Kingsley dominates against us.

Negatives

I thought Heff was very ordinary especially after half time.

You're a bit hard on Ward, considering he got next to no game time he wasn't our worst. He kicked a long pressure goal after the 3qtr time siren & was putting in until he did a hammy in the last qtr.

I dunno about Arma being scared but he's struggled all year, plenty of stats in junk time in our last two big wins but he didn't handle the heat yesterday.

Carroll I like, he's a tryer. Needs to be dropped & only brought back when his confidence is at it's peak. Left on Kingsley for 2 quarters too many on Sunday.

Neeta's as cold as it gets, if he's unfit rest him, if it's just form then go to others who are on.

Robbo, slaughtered by Harley. Dumb footy again, played behind looking for the speccy. If he can't adapt to his new role he might have to practice it at Sandy. He bailed us out against West Coast but did he rest on his laurels?

Yze was too loose as a defender & Whelan let Ablett get too much of it early.

Bruce played his worst game of the season.

General negatives were the looseness in the first quarter, Geelong attacked along that grandstand side at will. It took us an entire half to shut that down & start using it ourselves. We got no reward for dominating the 2nd quarter because we attacked from the (dead) outer wing. After the Hawthorn debacle ND put it to the leaders that they were poor & they were no better this week either. They responded last time & it's time to lift again.

Positives

Flash, the kid had a brilliant 2nd half & really bounced back on the experienced Sanderson. He really lifted us, he worked hard all day.

Miller, kicked a real team lifting goal & worked so hard at CHF after qtr time. I doubt he'll be starting on the bench next week!

Thompson, Kept up the hard work, needs more help.

Wheatley, Composed & mobile down back.

White, hard work in a lone hand in the ruck.

The fightback was pretty impressive but we spent to much petrol because of our complacent first term.

Wake up call!

we will never drop neitz and we shouldnt

even if he doesnt preform well he still is a great leader and ya never know when hes suddenly gunna kick 6-7

also melbourne would be labelled as the team with a captain that cant even get into the first 18.

I don't think ND would even contemplate contemplating dropping Neitz. He will fight back. And literally. As in he should go down back for a quarter or three. He should have been on Kingsley late in the 3rd bit of stability and leadership down there.

Before his Coleman medal year, I thought Neita was better at CHB and I still think he should play there more often, especially when he's getting triple teamed as often happens. He'll start at FF against the roos but if he struggles maybe a spell down back will help.

A few years ago I would have agreed with you, but now I don't think Neita has what it takes to play CHB anymore. In the times he's been moved into defence over the last couple of years he has had little or no impact. FF is where he will see out his career IMO.

Stingarmstrong thats one of the worst posts ive ever heard. He was great at CHB, but that was with talents such as jackovich, lyon, smith, schwartz up forward.
Neitz is the best full forward for the club since Norm Smith. He is the anchor, a leader, a goal kicker, a insipiration, and the Captain of the MFC. The guy gets the best defender each week, and each week the opposition defence pin points neitz as the target to stop. Perhaps, he could move up the ground a little more, maybe centre half forward to get some early touches. But i think the problem lies with our half forwards. They need to kick to Neitz when he is leading. He is as good as a lloyd or fevola on the lead and he is kicking for goal is great.
Don't loose faith in Neitz, just look at the areas where there can be improvement / development. Im sure Neitz will have a great game this week vs kangas.
GO DEES !!

Well I still think he can be of value in the back half occasionally, considering we now have more options in the forward half, ie davey, vardy, miller, holland. As to him playing CHF, when he played there a bit a couple of years ago he looked lost as to where to run etc.

PS Neitz to kick 7 this week :) :D
