Roast Disgusting umpiring

those frees were against groves he was holding his opponent back to try an save ibbo from getting crunched.

There were no real howlers except the lake out of bounds.

It was the soft not really there frees the bulldogs kept getting but then abit later exact same thing would happen to a freo player an it was play on.
Its not the frees they missed.
Its the frees they kept giving but it was only going in favour of 1 team.

Ah ok, that explains it.

It actually surprised me, quite a few opposition supporters I have on Facey were saying we were getting the rough end of the stick. Even a lady who has sat behind me for 6 years was going mental - and she is the most unbiased supporter you would ever meet.

I'd like to apologise to my family last night who had to put up with my constant calls for free kicks and deliberate and some sort of fairness

Yes I do acknowledge repeatedly bashing the couch when a free kick is awarded is bad form

In any event, Steve McBurney should be banned from umpiring all future Freo matches because the past few he's done have ended up with the opposition getting a free ride on many occasions and I'm sick of it

We got the 4 points and I'm happy but I feel like composing an email to demand McBurney banned from Freo games and AFL-standard umpiring for a change.

After watching the game again, this time on TV, I counted roughly 16 free kicks that either shouldn't have been given or incidents that should have resulted in free kicks that were either ignored or not seen.

Of the 16 I counted the Bulldogs got dudded out of 4 frees and we were dudded on 12.

The telling thing was those 12 against us resulted in 13 points going to the Bulldogs when it shouldn't have.

The Roughead v McPharlin report went against the Bulldogs but both players had eyes for the ball and it should have been a free kick at best!

Obviously the "Lake on the boundary" one is a standout 'howler' like everyone says but it's no excuse to ignore the rest of the crap served up by the umpires

The AFL changes the rules every year and we have no choice but to put up with it, but having to put up with below par umpiring on top of that just stinks.

It was crap,so inconsistant.
Have to agree that we got the rough end of the pineapple but there was some bad ones against the Doggies as well, free to Fyfe for high tackle yet both hit shoukler to shoulder, the OOB next to the point post the doggie player punch was not OOB.If the Pav 50mtr is correct then why wasn't cooney done for the exact same thing? How about the bump after we kicked a goal and they got it from the centre on the restart, the bump off the ball against Hill at a ball up both those things went on all game, the high tackle on the 50 against Hill when the Doggies player dived into him? Palmer in the marking contest when he stood his ground?is some i can remember

Pav must be wondering what he has to do to get a kick these days. He played mainly midifield last night and got scragged everytime he went near the ball. Got his head pulled off and pushed in the back but did not get one free kick last night but had three given against him.

While the 50mtr penalty was technically correct you see it happen just about every game where a player comes from behind and sends the player on the mark further downfield, but it hardly ever gets penalised.

The 2 most obvious howlers that were paid incorrectly IMO were;

- the HTB against Hilly in the first quarter. Shouldn't have been a free AND no consistancy with that interpretation for the rest of the night either.

- the free paid against JVB for bumping Picken. So incredibly soft and not a free kick according to the rules anyway afaik. McBurney was just looking for any reason to give them a helping hand as it was at the stage we had a handy lead.

I'm with you on those two Scham. Having said that I don't think the umpiring was any worse than usual.
Roughead should get off his charge as Grover clearly shoved him into McPharlin. Should have been a free to Roughead.
Grover played fairly well but did give away a couple of frees that resulted in goals.
Duffield needs to look at his fending off technique as this is one infringement the umpires are consistent with.

Didn't notice the Daniel Cross one, where he walked the ball across the goal line, either during the game or on the replay. Clear free to Freo missed.

Apart from the out of bounds I didn't think it was too bad, nothing that was really game changing or enough to be labelled 'disgusting'. If we had have lost that game it would have been our own doing, not the umpires.

What about the 50m penalty given against Pav. What a disgrace.

Just watched the last quarter

In the first 6 minutes there were 3 calls not given our way leaving the commentars scratching their heads

Very frustrating - the umpires tried really hard to kill our momentum in the last, otherwise I think we may have won by loads more

The call in the second (?) where the ball clearly went out was disgusting - everyone stopped because it was clearly out, except the player with the ball so he basically ran from half-back to the dogs forward line because he had no-one chasing him, because everyone was getting ready for a ball up

The rushed behind was a joke also - crap umpiring all round

I agree. It was the deliberate out of bounds in the first quarter that started the crowd. It was a diabolical decision, and was not consistently followed after!

Yep that stirred the crowd up, alot of the crowds calls for deliberate after that were very tongue in cheek. If you pay a deliberate in the first quarter, you must pay it for the rest of the game.

As for Sandi knocking the ball back over the boundary making say 10 metres, it is allowed under the rules. Knocking the ball from a ruck contest on the full, is a no no.

With umpiring, all I ask for is consistency.

The Mundy deliberate was a correct decision.

Mundy had no intention other than to kick it out, and he made it very obvious by kicking an end over end kick. If he had've kicked a drop punt he MAY have been ok but he could've kicked down the line but chose not to so the ump will always be suss about it. The fact that he chose a tumbling punt made it a no brainer for the ump.

I hate the maggotts as much as the next bloke but you can't blame the ump for enforcing the rule - blame the rule makers.

And yes, there were a couple later in the game which could've been called. I believe a combination of 3 things happened here;

1. the umps were pissed off at the crowd booing EVERY time a ball went out that they wanted to piss us off.

2. the ball was kicked with a legitimate drop punt so wasn't as obvious so they didn't feel they had to call it.

3. it would've meant giving us a free which obviously wasn't on their adgenda on the night. (they took the $2.25 on offer for the Bulldogs head to head)

Disgrace

What about McBurney's blatent manipulation of Freo games?

**** that gives me the shits.

Only consolation is that ******** boundary umpire got demoted :D

What about the 50m penalty given against Pav. What a disgrace.

The 50 was given against Pav for being in the 5m zone around the person with the ball.

It's easy to get involved with the crowd at the time when you've had a couple of dodgy decisions against you in a row, but the free kick was interpreted correctly from the rule.

No, not so. Dogs got 5 goals directly from garbage decisions or non decisions,

I can't recall all 5, however as I said earlier Pavs 50m was there, and the two decisions against Grover in the final quarter were pretty obvious as well that he was hanging onto the man.
