Interesting cos of the four SFL clubs in proximity to Gunn only one is flush with the readies I understand. Plus, if my info is near the mark, few clubs in that league can afford to pay more than the top half a dozen players.

Your assessment in my opinion is pretty much on the mark. At our club we only award money, out of a "prize pool" of about $500 to the top 3-4 players that are voted best afield for that particular day. However this is only for a win, this amount it halved if we lose.

Call it a semi-amatuer ethos if you will. Whether we can make it to Div 1 SFL on this philosophy only the future will tell. We won't die wondering that is for sure. But it is true we can't afford to pay players big bucks anymore as that is how we ended up in serious debt & playing the lower grades of the VAFA. St Pauls can indeed to entice players at the moment & good luck to them.

Some rumoured (And I say rumoured) SFL Div 2 budgets for player salaries from 2011 look something like this:

Black Rock: $20,000
Highett: $50,000
Springvale: $60,000

A quick perusal of the VAFA clearances suggests most Monders are VFL/TAC bound which is credit to the club.

Wrong again old fella. Very rarely do I say much about the club. Occasionally asking the odd question is about the extent of it . As someone, unlike yourself, who played all his junior footy and a good part of his senior footy in the brown and blue I feel entitled to take an interest.

Attempting to disenfranchise those of us – hundreds btw – just because we have other involvements is,to be moderate, thoughtless. Some might even say offensive.

Credit to you for being a toiler around the club at a time when it's hard for all clubs to get toilers. But you haven't in the past reflected well on the club with your comments here. Which is probably why you were told to pull your head in by both the footy club and the cricket club and why we see a much more contrite 'bedford' these days. Frankly, not having 'Monder Man' and 'Gunn Reserve' posting here is real loss to the public face of the club.

Anyhoo, you've managed to effectively divert the conversation from the substantive issue where you were struggling. I'm sure other D1 clubs have had enough of the naval gazing so unless you want to address the substantive issue I won't be engaging in your diversion anymore.

Ammo Man,

I’m still very much around. I don’t care to enter any discussions bagging other leagues/clubs etc, which leaves me little option than to just have a quick look now & then. Would prefer to talk about the prospects of Ormond & its competition this year. Haven’t seen a few of the clubs on Ormond’s fixture list for a while J.
On Ormond though, its very disappointing that so many of the clubs younger players are considering/choosing to leave rather than stay & do the hard yards & earn promotion. They were quick to grab the opportunity to play senior football as teenagers when the club was rising from D1 to B, but not so keen to hang around when the club really needs them. Have no problem with VFL & TAC cup hopefuls, but the rest have to realise that at this point in time, they’re not that good. Otherwise they wouldn’t have ‘led’ the club to D1. Any clubs offering these players any money whatsoever obviously have not done their homework. Have no problem with Digger leaving, outstanding Ormond person for over a dozen years who deserves to play his last year or 2 in a higher competition than VAFA D1. One of the few players at Ormond worth the $ being thrown at them by other clubs is Booker, and he has chosen to stay & lead the club back up through the grades. That says all that needs to be said. A man’s man I was proud to call a fellow combatant. On Bedford, the fact is Ormond need more with Bedford’s commitment, mainly on the park ( but you do need to curb your ‘enthusiasm’ on this forum big boy). I can attest to the fact that Bedford is the 1st person to appreciate an opposing clubs quality players/people, and he will be the guy welcoming visitors to the Gunn’s social rooms & offering them a beer. They say you can judge a man’s character on who is walking in to a room as others are walking out, and in Bedford’s case, he just ‘keeps walking in’. Off for a Vindaloo & a red with my better half.
