A question.....why do posters from other leagues feel the need to continually pot the VAFA about paying players? It is really quite tiresome.

Agree GN. It’s pathetic. Unless they have been involved at the coalface of an ammo club they would not understand and it is futile even trying to explain it. Completely disrespectful to the blokes who turn their back on $ to play with their mates at a good club in a well run comp in preference to reacquainting themselves with 10 –15 new mercenaries every year and then see their team inevitably hit rock bottom due to paying over the odds for average park footballers.

Some VAFA players’ benefits from a job or some business contacts but the vast majority get absolutely nothing out of it. As those involved with VAFA clubs realise we always have our hands in our pocket forking out for something so you end up actually paying for the privilege anyway. Every time the challenge is thrown out to name names, produce evidence or cite specific examples it never happens. Just the usual generic response about some anonymous bloke at an anonymous club and some fictional unsubstantiated ‘benefit’. I have been involved at a reasonably successful ‘A’ grade club for many, many years. We have never paid one player one cent. I have the greatest admiration for these quality young blokes who front up to play for nothing year after year and this tiresome garbage really pi$$es me off.

If VAFA blokes are getting paid then it is in all our best interests to blow the whistle and stamp it out. They are cheating and have an unfair advantage. However on the other hand it you are just joining the conga line of misinformed agitators we have heard it all before.

Have you considered that these ex Spotty players may have come across to play for former Spotswood Premiership Skipper Matt Montebello, who is the new senior coach? or that Willy CYMS is a great club? or both?

I'm sure all he meant was that they were paid at Spotswood, and therefore are decent players. No need to be so defensive!
