Any coaching news? I've heard Prahran may have a new coach. NOBs caretaker getting the full time gig?

Random additional note: PEGS and Kew have both competed in either Division 1 or Premier C for the past 5 seasons but never played each other in that time. Every year Kew was in D1 PEGS were in C, and vice-versa.

Assuming playing lists remain constant, OC and PEGS will be more than OK. I believe they would have beaten both Preston and UHS if they were playing in the Grand Final.

Does West Brunswick stay up in D1 as well if that's the case?

Disagree Max - OC will be lucky to play finals in D1. A very average playing list with and no U/19's in 2019.

I'm sorry there Mannix 25, but I agree with Max that OC should be fine next season in D1. Yes they did not have an Under 19s team in 2019, but they did have an Under 23 side in the VAFA's first venture in this area, which could have included a number of Under 19 eligible players. Plus if you look at their results during the season they were very competitive in a number of games with out getting the result. Just ask Max how close OI came to losing at Gordon Barnard. Also I heard on the grape line that they had a number of good players out with long term injuries very early in the season, that would be considered as fresh recruits for 2020. As to finals well nothing is guaranteed at this time of the year & every team needs an ounce of luck to play finals, let alone making it to the big dance & the possibility of a Flag & promotion.

Surely everyone is back this week or last?

Some news I've heard out of PA. Apparently have lost some players, mainly Assumption-aligned boys, and there's talk that it's likely a fait accompli that the Assumption connection will eventually be dropped. Probably not a huge game-changer, the link it tenuous at best. In saying that, I know their new coach and assistant coach will be very handy in D1 if they get on the park, and they have recruited to make up for the lost players, but now player points could be an issue.

Of course, this is all hearsay/second hand so there was no names but it was from a reasonable source!

Any other innuendo from around the traps?

Interesting that a struggling D1 team (school aligned) may have a point$ issue.

I don't know how serious the points issue is...however the talk was that a lot of the departures were the Assumption-aligned ones (1-pointers). Is there a Prahran Junior club? If they've got an influx of new players (you'd think that would be 8-10 players) at between 3-4 points each, it adds up. All it takes is having a few recruits who carry extra loading points or a recent VFL experience, for example, and you'd be well into the 40s.

Pretty quiet in here. Thought I might have a go at a end of season ladder prediction. Happy to be told I’m wrong.

Optimism high at the Saints eth?

Be interested to know why PEGS are so high on both ladders? Finished with 2 wins and ~55% in C grade. It's not a massive drop from C to D1 like it once was. Kew and St Marys have come down from bottom of C with similar records and finished 8th and 7th respectively. Have they recruited? If not they could be battling to be in the finals race.

Always optimistic at the start of the year. Pre-season standard has been very high

PEGS is always strong in D1, I just think they'll be stronger than we were last year.

Good to hear. All signals pointing to a very strong and even comp again this season. Whitefriars and OC to be very strong I think. Tough for Brunswick coming up, doesn't look like there'll be any easy kills for them to try and consolidate their spot in D1. Have heard they have picked up a few, could be enough to stay up?

OC and SMS for me.
SMS, keeping a few recruits under wraps at the moment.
Also, Holmes has finally involved himself in a pre-season to the surprise of a few. Look for a big year

With Hart back at OC, they will be a contender. They were not a bad team in 2019. Just couldn't win the close ones. Especially against OI.
