Do we go after a Daniel Harris Type

We're better off in the long run sticking with youth. A large percentage of our list is peaking now, we need to think of the future

If Armo doesn't get any opportunites this year to prove himself in the 22, we can kiss him goodbye.

You don't get opportunities, you take them. If he doesn't take the opportunity that he's going to get then we should ship him back to GC, gift-wrapped. He's gotta start to play consistent footy, not one good, one so-so then back to the twos.

With Armo, I think its a bit of lack of opportunity. Geary and Eddy played fill in roles around the flanks, Armo's a midfielder like Ball. With Hayes, Joey, Dal, Jones, Ball, Goddard, Gram. It was hard for anyone on the list to break into the midfield.
Ball gone but Lovett coming into the mids, and maybe Walsh, it will still be hard to get a game if we stay injury free.

We have an amazing list of younger players now, ready to take over in a few years. From what we seen the next gen saints are going to be just as good if not better, I hope we can keep them all.

I hope we will only be going for 18-20 year old kids in the draft. We have to think about the cap. Theres no room or need for any more recycled players.

We have a bit of a catch 22 situation. We have good youngsters who should keep us a top 8 or even top 4 team for a good time yet but these youngsters can't get a game because the team is so good, settled and injury free. If they can't get a game then they won't develop or they'll leave, then when they should be at the right age to take over from the present generation they won't be there or they won't have been blooded.

I think, PT, that this is why Lyon stresses his four-year apprenticeship so much. I think that gives him the space to not play them. But I also think he probably tells them it's actually really the best thing for them - that it's in their best interests to not be rushed into the heady days of AFL until they're ready. The list of reasons for a long apprenticeship are pretty long, if you think about it: more maturity to handle the spotlight, physically being more up-for-it, the security of being able to make mistakes for a year or so in those four years, knowing you're not expected to be trying to make the seniors. If the boys know that he's actually protecting them, they might appreciate it, not resent it.

Yeah I think they also might see a great opportunity in a few years, being able to take over from a Hayes or a Rewoldt.
The coaches have been doing a wonderful job of keeping our players together. I would think we have a very low attrition rate compared to other clubs.

I feel a bit for Harris, being kinda on the scrapheap at an awkward age (less appeal to a club in a rebuilding phase) and probably being a depth player with the better performing teams. Does alot of good work at clearances, but just doesn't seem to finish it off - particularly in front of the sticks (has kicked over 7 goals in a season once with 11 in 2004).

Would be surprised if he was looked at by the Saints.

Drop in replacement for Luke Ball, but I'd rather a player who could finish it off. :D

I tend to think we have enough picks that we will try to get a recycled player though. I'm not sure who though. Some people favour Robbo or Brownie.
IMO Jessie Smith would be worth a shot, but probably gone by our pick.

Hands off Saint'r... :D

Hawks don't get a pick until after us. We could pick up Smith. He is doubtless a prodigious talent, but he is Mr Glass from the movie "Unbreakable"
We just delisted Xavier Clarke for being fragile, Jesse Smith falls apart when a moth flies past him. I don't think his type appeals to Ross Lyon.

Harris would be a good get for Sandringham and would provide depth for us.
He has no outstanding qualities though, and I would be surprised if we did pick him up.

Smith has blamed a lot of his problems on the lack of facilities at Arden St.
It would be interesting for Dave Misson to at least have a look at his problems and make an assessment.
Note that Xavier Clarke also played in a position where we have a great deal of depth at the moment.

We chased Andrejs Everitt hard and Smith is a similar type of player who most would rank well in front of Everitt.

Given our recent success with injury management he could well be worth a punt, class is class and could very well be available at 32.

we got Gardi back playing good footy and he was a train wreck, physically and mentally when we got him. We also manage to keep King pieced together,so Smith should be ok. A lot younger so his body should be able to recover a lot better.
