MMM, with the loss of Ebert, we have lost some midfiled height.

We have Koby Stevens to come in.
I believe he is a key to 2012.

What happens if he gets injured?

We only have Masten and Gaff, McGinnity and Hams to go into the midfield.

We recruited Hams and Newman.

Newman is 179 cm.

Actually The player I wanted most in the AFL was Marc Murphy.

He would be the perfect fit as when our players like Priddis AND kERR get the ball which more than 50% they give it to Murphy further up the ground, who has balance, speed skill and can carry the ball.

We needed that against Geelong in the final. Give it to someone forward of centre who could run with it.

Murphy is 180 cm and really bulked up in 2011 and basically became unstoppable with the new strength to match his skill.

Maybe Newman will grow abit taller and be our Marc Murphy.

Remember what varcoe did in the Grand Final with his running withe ball into the forward line.

Embley will be gone soon and what happens if he goes down at the same time as Stevens.

Do we need to get a taller midfielder in the rookie listing.
We might fluke something.

Ebert rarely played in the midfield in 2011 - and that's a good thing. It was a part of our turnaround. Addition by subtraction of dodgy kicking.

Tom Swift is 191cm. It would solve a lot of problems if he made it but I think that's a long shot.

Its a shame we didn't keep pick 45 and pick up Jordan Murdoch. He would be an excellent tall wing and half forward option.

Rosa - 191cm
Embley - 189cm
Stevens - 187cm
Swift - 191cm
Priddis - 185cm

All our other mids are over 180cm except for Kerr.

I've thought for a long while our midfield was too tall and lacked agility. Maybe the recruiting staff thought so as well.

BTW Le Cras and the taller Hill will be getting a run down the wings I'd suggest and there's that other bloke in # 27 who keeps on talking himself up as a midfielder, whats his name again.;):D

Oops, forgot about him.

Still I was thinking solid tall midfielders.

Ricciuto types

Now you are comparing Ebert to Ricciuto? :D

Koby Stevens would be next in line for his position you would think. He has to have a good preseason though.

Ebert only really developed a bigger body over the last pre-season anyways and never played midfield in 2011. So comparing him to big bodied midfielders is crazy.

Our midfield is fine.

Scott Selwood is neither small or skinny either.

If we feel like we need a tall mid/utility aka 'Ricciuto types' then I like Verrier in the rookie draft. He doesn't look like much right now but he is a 188cm, 82kg utility who has the frame to really fill out and become a big unit.

It sucks we missed out on Murdoch, really sucks. I think he could have stepped in and filled a void for sure with an impact, he looks to be quality, Geelong will be stoked, they really know who to get.

Looking at the Murdoch footage.

My God, he is the player I was thinking we should have aimed for.

Even way ahead of Newmann.

Fast attacking player - strong, aggressive (like Darling) to recieve a forward handball from someone like Priddis, Kerr or Shuey and attack like Varcoe or Marc Murphy.

On top of that instead of being 180 cm he is 190 cm.

What the f--- !

Geelong will stay a power for ever with thier true home ground advantage and their draft picks.

Mind you on second thoughts we really needed Newmann for the next 10 years and we should try to get a Murdoch type next year.

Koby Stevens is such a key.

Luckily he is getting more pace.

I know it's been said many a time but I wish we had played hardball and kept 45.

Still can not believe we let Port bully us into a second round downgrade considering we were already getting r*ped to begin with. The cheap bastards :thumbsd:.

And although I'm glad we picked up Hill, he was on the verge of delistment and surely our pick 63 would've sufficed. We could've then upgraded Hams with a later pick.

I realize that West Coast are conservative in all aspects of the off-season and I actually agree with fair trading, since players leaving is a part of any sport. But when such a doctrine ends up being as detrimental to our list as it has been this off-season, then surely it's time for a change of tactic.

Not saying that West Coast should go all Collingwood and unreasonable in the trade period, but I'm all for holding out a little more so that we don't get run over by other clubs (ie: Port and Bulldogs this year, even the Lions a few years back when Crazy Vossy was giving freebies left right and centre)

If we had just kept 45 as we should have and like any other team would have, we'd most likely have Murdoch running round a wing or flank for the next 10 years. Still think he'd fill the biggest hole in our team, even more so than Newman. And with his height and speed (2.75s 20 m sprint, 11.2s 100m) he'd go a long way to completing the team.

Build a bridge.

Sounds like a few are overrating the draft a little bit. Would pick 45 in a weak, compromised draft really have completed our team? Uhhh...

Taylor or Garlett. Pace to burn and elite delivery skills. Don't have Murdochs height but they are better, alot younger and certainly will run and carry more than Newman.
Taylor already has a kid and would prefer to keep his family close.

Seriously over-rating Murdoch folks. Over age talents always fall. ALWAYS.

Because they have 12 months development on other players.
In the case of Murdoch dispite him being a very different and far more "incomplete" player, he's 20 months older than Newman.
