Obviously we are not the medical staff and have no say in the matter, but with this weekends match vs Essendon likely to be 'season defining' in terms of whether we play finals (and where we finish after the H&A season), do we 'rush back' Mitchell and Boyle or give them another weeks rest?

Let me re-iterate, obviously what we think has no say in the matter, but hypothetically speaking, would you give those two another week to freshen up or rush them into the side?

Does anyone even know the severity or what type of injury Mitch is suffering? For all we know it could be a corky?

I think Boyle would be about due to be ready anyway to play, so I think and hope he does come into the side.

SEN reported that Mitchell had a 'calf strain' (with Pickers saying there's a 'chance' he could miss next week).

With Boyle and his hammy, there's always the chance that it could flare up again.

Do we risk playing both of them at perhaps 80% capacity in a match that could define our season, or give them another weeks rest?

Are we to assume that due to the fact Mitchell appeared to pull up fine after last weeks game and was a late withdrawal that his calf strain is nothing to serious? I would think he was rested in todays match in order to get him back to full strength for next weeks game and hopefully thats the case. As for Boyle, as important as he is to our forward line i think the duration of time he has spent out indicates we probably shouldnt be bringing him back till he is absolutely ready...ill keep the fingers crossed that that's this weekend

Courtesy of foxsports. Franklin was close to playing today, however, he has a bit of the flu. Wil be playing this week. Mitchell also could have played, but had a bit of hamstring/calf tightness. Will also play. Hopefully Lewis gets off in the judiciary this week. Crawford will be right for next week. Vanders got another game into his system and will only get better. Seriously when you take Mark Williams(60+ goals in the past two years), Franklin (49 this year) and Boyle (28 goals before injury) and Dixon only just getting gametime back, you are obviously going to struggle a little bit. The fact that we are still scoring points is a miracle considering roughy was our only recognised target up forward. On that note, i thought dowler looked promising. Hes a good size, he just needs another preseason, a bit more power in the legs, some good midfield supply and confidence. Tuck also looks a likely type.

IN: Boyle, Franklin, Mitchell, Thorp, Ellis, Jacobs.

Ok, maybe not all of them...

OUT: Dont care as long as Dixon is one of them please AC, the photos cant be that bad.

I dont think we will rush back anyone.

IN
Mitchell most likely will be right, id say 80%.
Boyle is moving well at training, Dunstall anticipated he'd be back this week. 90%.
Franklin is fine, although i do have a little conspiracy theory, but i hope its just the flu. If its just the flu 100%.

Ellis, Thorp, Jacobs would also be considered.

OUT
Dowler, good experience, back to BH.
Murphy, competed well, but you'd think a more experienced player to come in for a crunch match.
Tuck, likewise.
Crawford if his knee doesnt pull up well.
Lewis if he is suspended.
Guerra if he has a leg injury.

I'm hoping it'll be something like:
IN - Franklin, Mitchell, Boyle, Thorp
OUT - Dowler, Murphy, Tuck, someone who's forced out from list above.

Injury wrap: Hawks expecting Franklin, Mitchell back

HAWTHORN are confident of regaining key players Lance Franklin and Sam Mitchell from illness and injury for next Sunday's bumper clash with Essendon at the MCG.
Both stars were late withdrawals from the side that lost badly to the Kangaroos at Aurora Stadium, Franklin with a virus and Mitchell with calf tightness.
Adding to their woes, veteran midfielder Shane Crawford went to the rooms after receiving a knock to the knee late in the game and Jordan Lewis was reported for allegedly striking the Kangaroos' Daniel Harris in the second quarter.
But the Hawks are confident that Mitchell, Franklin and Crawford will be ready to front the Bombers and were also pleased that skipper Richie Vandenberg coped well with his comeback game.
Coach Alastair Clarkson said both Franklin and Mitchell had been close to playing against the Roos.
"[Franklin] wasn't well enough to be able to fly with the team yesterday and we hoped by late last night he might have improved his condition and we could have flown him over this morning, but he was no good, so hopefully he'll be okay for us this week," he said.
"[Mitchell] hadn't been able to do too much training throughout the course of the week, but he's a resilient player and one of our leaders.
"We gave him every chance to get himself right, but he just wasn't quite right [to play the Kangaroos] and we just don't want to take a risk with any of our players, let alone one of our leaders."
Clarkson said Crawford's knee problem was not serious.
The Kangaroos had a scare when full-back Michael Firrito landed awkwardly after flying for the ball, his knees buckling and his back and head jerking back sharply.
But he returned to the field and coach Dean Laidley said while he had jarred his back, he was not badly hurt.
The most serious injury to come out of the weekend's round was to Collingwood's impressive young midfielder Scott Pendlebury, who broke his foot 10 minutes into Saturday night's loss to Brisbane.
Along with robbing the Magpies of a valuable player, most likely for the rest of the home and away season, it also harms his status as a contender for the AFL's Rising Star award.
Pendlebury was seen as vying with Geelong young gun Joel Selwood for the honour, but Selwood now appears to be the clear favourite.

Yep Mitch will be back

Although your probably right that Boyle and Mitchell will be back in the side, I doubt if they do play they will be only 80%. Like most clubs the hawks will bring back players only if they are 100% fit otherwise you might as well give a player who is 100% fit! If they do play, their fitness will be fine, just their match conditioning will be lacking some what.

Can and will not endure another match that has Roughead as the go-to man. A quarter fit Boyle is a better option than this bloke as is Franklin. Bring em in.
