Barnesy was one of my favourite Geelong players.
Why wouldn't he talk about Essendon as "us".He works for them.
Mark Thompson refers to Geelong as "us" and "we".Is that any different ?

Why would we 'detest' John Barnes?

He was a great servant of our club, playing close to 150 games for us.

I don't like what he does as a runner, however i respect his contribution to my club, enjoy watching him on tv, and always found him to be a delightful bloke who was always willing to accomodate his fans.

No way. Played some great games for the club. At the end he may not of liked the way he was treated by the coaching staff, but when he speaks of his time at Geelong it is always good.

I don't detest him at all, but he does still bear a grudge after the way he was treated when Thompson took over at the end of 99. It was a shame because he was such a great servant of the club for 8 years and he deserved a much better farewell.

Agreed that he deserved a better send off , but Thomson made the right decision to let him go.

Barnsey was a great player for Geelong. I certainly don't detest him.

I can't blame him for being more of an Essendon man now, even if he did play the bulk of his career with us. Look at his reasons:

- started his career with Essendon
- Won a flag with them
- currently employed by them
