It's very early to be making predictions, but I think the Dockers can win the first game of the season as they should have last season. It would be magnificent to see the Toasters supporters walking out weeping tears of blood as they did the first time we beat them in a home game. Some said it rained but it really was the tears of their supporters.Nyuk Nyuk.

The Dockers have to pull their finger out this year and there are alot of signs to show that they are ready to go forward ( admin, coaching panel and player shakeups.). That said, I reckon it is their best chance to start getting ahead of the Eagles.

The Dockers will start the season with only a couple of players still not in full fitness. The Eagles will have 5 players coming back from knee injuries and although they are good players, I doubt if they will be ready (WAFL maybe).

The Dockers have an improved forward line and the backs should be better with another tall released to go back. The middle is the question mark, if we get the ball there anything can happen.

In essence I feel the Eagles will only be able to field 80% of their best players (injuries), whereas the Dockers should be able to field around 90% of their best. Thus the Dockers should have an advantage and they've got to take it.

So who voted "freo by 100+pts"? Sabre?? ;)

If any of you want to read eagles fans thoughts on this game feel free to visit the eagles board, we've got a whole thread on it there. Just no trolling, don't ruin a perfectly good thread.

LOL Maybe maybe

So your saying that we have permsion to go there LOL
Your idea of trolling is anything anti eagles which will most likely be pro freo.

My idea of trolling is if someone comes in and says ***** like "eagles fans are scum" or something along the lines. But yeah, i give you my permission to come to our board ;)

what makes you think that we need your permission to go into your board?
what just because we don't waste our time on that board, what that means that we are waiting for your permision
anywayz i think i will stay away from your board if there is a whole topic just dedicated to the derby it is a waste of time because none of us will ever agree on anything and it ends up turning into the same thing and well i think we should all just save it until the day more energy to actually cheer for the teams instead of just sitting there pretending to be the supporter supporting the better team

Surprised more didn't go with me

I cannot tell a lie.

It was I who chopped down the cherry tree.

I'm off to sportsbet to put some money on it now.

eagles suck. Dockers will deliver them the pineapple in round-1, and they will deliver it in the most uncomfortable place.

I hope Phil "punchin bag" Read gets a gallop. He's due for another bitch slappin.

I personally cant wait to see Phil Read cop a hiding (and have whichever Docker is responsible for doing it avoid the umpires wrath) and to see Ashley McIntosh figure out what to do now that he can't hold Mods by his shirt and stand on his feet!

Oh yeah and I cant wait to see the Dockers flog em in the most crushing defeat in the Eagles history! Carn the Dockers.;)

Eagles by 6 goals....

Will be a walk in the park against these hapless idiots and poor excuse of a football club......

:D

I love how Kickett's claim to fame is "he punched Phillip Read" and "He's played for 5 clubs".

Read's greatest revenge on Kickett will be playing ten years at the same club, and retireing with a reputation as a fierce competitior and not a thug.

I love how eagle supporters presume that kickett wasnt and isnt a good player.
He on more than one occasion cleaned up the eagle player he was playing on.
Gave the club great heart and was a great clearance player..

Read was suspended twice in his first year.
He is a disgrace to the game a dirty player that doesnt do it out of neccessity like libba he does it cause he enjoys it.
Which in my books makes him worse.

Actually I've always quite liked Kickett. Ex-Eagle, good player.

Read isn't dirty, just ill-disciplined and I have great hopes that Woosha will sort him out so he can channel his aggression in the right direction.

Eagles by 24 points.

Hmmm, I don't think I'll be as nice as you VOR.

Calling Read a 'disgrace to the game' and 'a dirty player' is pure stupidity, and something I'd only expect to read in a Sabre Post.

Read is a tenacious little warrior, who loves his club and always gives 100%.
Yes he was suspended in his first year, but for what? A tripping charge which was simply a reflex action.

Bit different from going into a game where your sole focus is to have a punch up - ie Kickett - and then get handed a nine week suspension.

And you're right Sabre, I don't think Kickett is a good player. Neither did my club, Fitzroy, Essendon and StKilda.

You are joking

Read is an ill disciplined dirty little t^rd and got everything he deserved off Kickett.Oh how wrong four clubs can be.

Couldn't agree with you more anchor man. Read seems to think that he is going to be the next Libba!! He is an overated player who will get dealt with if he continues the sniper tactics behind the play he has been involved in so far in his career.

Him and Gardiner were completely responsible for that Western Derby brawl, and if the Eagles supporters took an unbiased view at it, they might actually see that. Gardiner started the pushing and shoving down in the goalsquare with a kid playing about his 5th game at the time, and then threw a punch at him. I was no more than 20m away from it at the time. Eagles supporters like to forget this for some reason. From there is where the game got out of control. Gardiner started it. Have a look at the whole game and you will see it. Kickett was undisciplined in the events that follwed, but he was just one of many and was unfortunate to have everything caught on camera. He deserved the 9 weeks probably, but he was no loner.

As for him not being a good footballer, you have got to be kidding. He has been Freo's most consistent player over there history because he has been given a chance to prove himself over a long period of time. The other clubs were too quick to trade/delist him. Sheedy regrets it to this day.

And one last comment on someone that said that Worsfold will help him sort himself out. Please!!! He was a dirty little sniper if ever there was one. He effort on having a go at McGuane after the siren in a final in '94 was a disgrace. He deserves no respect after that and many other incidents during his dubious career.

Good luck to freo on their climb up the ladder this year.

Cheers, ArdenSt

McGuane gave Mainwaring a hard time all day if you watch the video, plus Woosha gave back to McGuane what Mcguane had been doing all day to Mainy. Well done Woosha...good to see him stick up for his team mates

Good luck to freo on their climb up the ladder this year.
Yeah...right...

Well i am going to go out on a limb and agree that Gardiner did start the pushing and shoving. This was actually the first time i was at an AFL game live, and i was in the 2 tier stand, so saw the incident. I do agree that gards threw the first punch, but will not agree that Gards and Read were completely responsible. Everyone who was involved was responsible for that brawl, there is always 2 sides to the story, and each of us takes the opposite, so the truth is probably somewhere in between.
All this said, i think it is about time we get over it. There is no point dwelling on it.
I will agree i have been annoyed with some of the things read has done, but he is not as bad as you all say he is.
And about Dale Kickett. He is a good player, but he was not at his previous clubs. He has really gone well at Freo, but i don't know what got into him on that day.

Also, the comment about Woosha. It was only a few years ago people were calling for the return of similar things, saying the game lacked a bit of that kinda thing. Today none of us want it.
If I were to go back and look at many of Victoria's past champions, i am sure i would find many of them had done worse things than woosha, but at the time, in that context, had been praised for it. It was part of the game then, it just isn't now.
And you can all now say it was a bad part, but deep down you know a lot of people liked to see that in their team, as that sort of thing back then was part of how they tried to show who was superior.

Well said Eaglekickass, it takes two to tango and on that day both sides were at fault and did things that were not very cute.

Let's move on and look at the future for both clubs, there are some good young players in both sides, I would love to see last years win total for the W.A. sides of 7 being doubled to at least 14 this year.

As for round one, I'll just check on who's available before I make any "brash" predictions.

Bring on the "Farmer" Cup.

Actually it was Andrew Williams who was done for reflex tripping in his first game (Brisbane away), whereas Read was done for a pretty soft punch on Aaron Hamill (Carlton), albeit provoked.

Don't worry about Sabre - the definition of optimism has changed from "a rat sliding down a razor blade using his balls as brakes" to "Sabre in pre-season".
