Currently the NRL are playing all 8 of its matches this weekend at Brisbane's Suncorp stadium in what is being called "magic round".

The concept originates from the English Super League.

Should the AFL adopt this?

The economic benefits for the host city are obvious. Lots of footy tourists coming in to watch their side, hotels booked, resturants occupied etc
as well as bringing in a nice footy vibe to the host city with people walking round in their club colours of all types.

Said the same thing about the Commonwealth games in 2018, literally nobody came. I don't think fans care enough to massively overpay for hotel rooms for one weekend to see their team play one game when they can see another 12/17 that year without travelling.

Rugby league don't have any crowds so it doesn't matter. Who is going to give up their home games and the gate takings in the AFL to do this?
Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Gold Coast, Western Bulldogs, Melbourne, Greater Western Sydney, St Kilda

ps. No
AFL crowds are too good
Imagine a GWS vs St Kilda game at the SCG followed by a Collingwood vs West Coast game right after - You would struggle to fit in all their fans Especially with neutrals who'd attend because it's a day full of football.

The problem being where do you host it?

There'd be enough disdain from non-victorians if it's Melbourne
Adelaide wouldn't have the hotel space
Perth is too expensive for everyone to travel there

So it leaves it as Sydney or Brisbane

Would be great for expanding the game. And I really would love doing it in Sydney

Maybe do something like

Thursday Night - Sydney vs Essendon - SCG
Friday Night - Greater Western Sydney vs Richmond - Homebush
Saturday Afternoon - Carlton vs Geelong - SCG
Saturday Twilight - Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide - Homebush
Saturday Twilight - Melbourne vs Gold Coast - SCG
Saturday Night - St Kilda vs Brisbane - Homebush
Saturday Night - Hawthorn vs Adelaide - SCG
Sunday Afternoon - Collingwood vs Fremantle - SCG
Sunday Twilight - North Melbourne vs West Coast - SCG

Would be great to see 9 games played at Kardinia Park over a weekend

NRL hope to achieve 50k fans per day for multiple games at the one venue.
AFL get that for one decent game so would be locking out paying fans if there were to be 3 games played at the one venue.
