I've asked this question on Nicks, but I'm re-posting here just to see what people's responses are to my question.
Not sure what the overwhelming feeling is with others, but I'm starting to despise the trade period and the drama surrounding it especially when it involves the media carrying on hysterically about players movements as if it's 1996 or 2006 when players requesting a trade wasn't a common occurrence.
I used to love it years ago and enjoy the buildup and surprise because players moving clubs was less frequent and more unpredictable when it did happen and there was genuine excitement and shock when something big transpired.
Now, it's become a media wankfest for the likes of Barrett and co to talk shit and make up rumours. Players seem to request trades left, right and centre without blinking an eye, and as a supporter it just reaffirms why we shouldn't become emotionally invested in our favourite players like we once did, because no one is indispensable as the Sam Mitchell situation has shown.
There's no denying football is purely a business now and the players wanted more power to dictate their careers so I understand the direction we're heading in, but it leaves me cold and somewhat deflated by it all. Maybe I'm alone on this, but I just don't enjoy it anymore even in an instance when we recruit a great player for example.
It reminds me too much of the NFL or EPL with constant rumours and innuendo and just when it seems like we're on the right track, it's back to square one with future planning. It feels like this time of the year is bigger than the season itself at times.
Maybe the news of Jonathan Marsh and various others wanting to leave has prompted this reaction, but the introduction of free agency has had a flow on effect in all forms of player movements whether it be free agency itself or trading which is becoming all too frequent and predictable.
