If anyone wants an insight from this game, it’s that the Eagles scored 4.3 of their 4.8 from our turnovers. We’re still a huge risk of a good team getting a match winning return from pressuring us into turnovers that we can’t defend.

Never thought I'd react to a 15 goal win with a 'meh', but here we are in this strange new world. We were messy at times, overused the ball and got caught a lot. I don't know, the opposition was so poor...but there were occasions when I thought we made the easy look more difficult than it ought to have been.

Going to call it now. We are in trouble versus Fremantle if we don't sharpen up. There is no way in the world that the Dockers are going to be the wet lettuce that they were against Brisbane.

I feel a bit unclean writing this. Maybe the lack of atmosphere at yesterday's game has something to do with my overall impression. It was all a bit pedestrian.

Pretty uneventful. I thought Croft’s debut was outstanding. Bont BOG. Westy is elite.

Couple of negatives - a few of the lads trying to do too much, such as Garcia and Cleary.

Treloar to come in for Lachie M for mine.

Will we keep Crofty in? Hard to drop him.
Crafty showed more yesterday than anyone else has in that role this year. Keep him in

The boys love him….look at the walk off where they left him going down the race alone….love it

4:40pm on a Sunday is just a really bad time to start a game. You are not getting home before 8:30pm and it really means it's a meal out if you have kids or prepare something. Playing an interstate team bereft of talent made the crowd size impressive but unenthusiastic other than when Crofty did something. Honestly I could have left at half time and I agree it was watching a training drill.

If he get's dropped after that there will be riots. What impressed me most were some of his defensive running efforts for a big guy. Using his natural running ability to put on pressure even if you don't get rewarded is something JUH could learn from.
JU WHO?

Keep Crofty in!

He could be our 2025 version of picking Cordy at the end of 2016. Under 10 games played, had not played as a forward before and hasn’t much since. Nailed it.

Crofts situation is slightly different but I’m getting some vibes here.
The Father Son Flag will wag

We just witnessed the moment when a player goes from being very good/excellent to elite. West is now an elite small forward. Today was that day.
There was an obscure stat during the game that he leads the comp for ground ball gathers in the F50 by 16.
His kicking for goal has become elite as well.

Our young talls generally are looking pretty damn healthy, especially considering Croft's highly promising debut.

He could easily end up proving to be best used as a defender/swingman after a couple more preseasons.

A young spine of Naughton (25), Darcy (22), JOD (22), Buss (21) and Croft (20) is an amazing starting point for our future.
Bloody hell i forget Naughton is still pretty young

Cleary has been great since he’s come back in. He’s been winning his share of 1:1’s and driving through congestion. Something he’s rarely done before. The odd holding the ball is happening less frequently. He’s improving in front of our eyes. I do wonder whether JJ said anything to him before he was pinged in the middle, he was right next to him. Nevertheless, Cleary should’ve had the awareness and laid the handball off before he was caught.

Bont is 1st in average score involvements and goal assists for this season.

Here’s his last 7 weeks of football.

v West Coast - 31, 2 goals and 10 clearances.

v Demons - 33, 7 clearances and 9 score involvements

v Giants - 27 and 9 clearances

v Bombers - 35 and 2 goals

v Lions - 24, 1 goal and 10 tackles

v Adelaide - 37 and 12 tackles

v North - 25, 2 goals and 10 tackles

Just insane

Croft was great but I’ll play devils advocate a bit and put it down to first game ebullience.
There were a couple instances where his tackling and chasing were a bit too excited and a more trigger happy umpire would’ve blown the whistle. Needs to watch that, I assume the coaches will roll those tapes and improve his tackling technique/awareness. Also a couple times where he flew against Naughton / Darcy. I don’t mind it as he wants the ball but against the good teams, we’ll need better structure.
Last one was his last shot. From the little I’ve seen of him, he was never going to kick that but he had a ping anyway. Probably still exploring his capabilities.
Anyway, great debut, exciting to see that athleticism.

I like how we are complaining about a near 100 point win without getting out of first gear.

A couple of years ago this fixture was a loss and a number here had "trepidation " of the same happening again, and when it didn't it was still a "meh" performance.

Some people aren't ever happy.

I still think we are more than even chance to beat Fremantle, especially at home.

What was there to be overjoyed about yesterday?

We did enough to win without doing anything spectacular because we played a fairly ordinary opponent,

Not that dissimilar to the bombers a couple weeks back,

No one has said they aren't happy with the win

Correct. It's nuance. Happy to win, but realistic about how impressive it was. And knowing that there are definitely things to work on when we come up against a much better opponent in Freo next week. One hundred percent sure that our coaches will be adopting exactly this mindset.

A prophesy foretold by those who of us who saw him as a small forward and not the inside mid that he was expected to be.

Watching freo the other day one thing I noticed is that their mids are hard and solid around the ruck contest and hit the ball moving. Our mids have to be on from the start. This brings me to my next point. TIM ENGLISH, you are great around the ground but to stop Freo you have to be ULTRA competitive in the ruck against Jackson and Darcy and this will take us a long way to winning

Totally agree we Smashed them And we have been doing that to the sides below us all year even the teams that are super good cant even smash the teams Below them

Cleary seems to get caught HTB fairly often which is a bit of a worry come finals when the pressure goes up to %110.

Is he trying to do too much or is he struggling with the pace of AFL? Because if he's getting caught twice vs basically a VFL side in WC how's he going to handle the rabid pressure of a final?

We're now $1.31 to beat Freo($3.50) next week, Freo also shot out to $67 for the flag, we're $21 with GC.
I have no issues with him getting caught once or twice because the he succeeds more often than not and we benefit greatly. He'll get better with experience.
