Pray tell what would be good enough then.

Pablo Forlàn said:Please find somewhere where I said mods were basic variations on the same thing. I was referring to the games themselves. The concept is the same throughout - shoot stuff and get better weapons. The only advancement in this time has been interacting with other elements in the environment, i.e. vehicles.
As for the online element, jump on a normal server, and then count all the people using cheats/hacks. Great replay value there.
FPS' are nothing but mindless entertainment for the lemmings. Hopefully by the time Half Life 2 comes out, many of these lemmings will grow tired of playing the same game over and over and try something different.
Want to explain to me why games like the Championship Manager series are so popular across the world? I'll tell you why, because it's everything an FPS isn't.

For multiplayer FPS action, the original Quake is, in my opinion, still the best ever.raboyle said:Where does that put Quake?
And what would you be basing that on? Have you played the game on any system at all? Go back and have a look at the link nochalance posted.otaku said:Raedon 9600XT or an nVidia fx5700 are the minimuns i would recommend.

I find that games like Rainbow Six3, Splinter Cell, PGR2, GTAIII, FIFA Soccer, etc all look great on a TV using SVideo. Granted they are not as good as high end PC graphics, but are great nonetheless.nonchalance said:Ah yeah, love that low low resolution.
Of course you can but it costs. Most people have home theatre these days, why not utilise this when playing games... my Yamaha AV unit & Jamo speakers certainly produces a better sound than any PC will using 5.1 Cambridge speakers could.nonchalance said:True surround sound is doable on the PC, as is big screen, as is 'the dark'.
Given that I only paid just over $200 for it, which is a pittance compared to upgrading a PC over the course of 3 years to play the "latest thing" (ie Doom 3 & Far Cry), I think I can live with that. Gotta find a way to depreciate it...nonchalance said:And you'll have to upgrade your Xbox in a couple of years when the one you have becomes a paperweight.

3rdEchelon said:Yeah i went to Harvey Norman today, and they had that Raedon 9600XT for about $349. Pretty wierd when that Doom 3 package i posted earlier with the video card was only $149 all up. I think i'l buy it anyway, i need another new recent game.
Pablo Forlàn said:Seems you not comprehending much. I said I am not an RPG fan, I have never played Zelda, Final Fantasy or anything of that ilk. However, I respect that they actually require some above average thought processes to complete.
I have said that FPS are mindless games requiring little to no thought, which in principle you are agreeing with.
Besides, RPG's may have some repetition, but does mean rote learning from previous ones will finish the next? I doubt it.
Anyway you obviously have more credibility than I, as you write stuff for a no-name game site. As Mr T once said, "I Pity the fool".
If mindless entertainment sells, why does Championship Manager sell so highly? Or do you need an example that populates 3 shelves at EB.
nonchalance said:CM sells well because it is a very good game - but which part of "CM sales are a tiny percentage of Doom III sales" did you miss?
Which sells more?
otaku said:Shop around - DONT go to Hardly Normal!!
I just bought a Radeon 9800Pro from$360. Better card that the 9600XT.
Goto places like tomshardware and do some comparisons.
But ultimately, dont shop at HN
Pablo Forlàn said:Yawn. I forgot global sales figures started at Seattle and ended in New York.

Doom 3 will make John "Ferrari" Carmack and buddies just pots and pots and pots of cash. No problem there. What kind of games do you like?Porthos said:FPS players, please buy it so that the engine makes enough money that it gets used for games that I would like to play. Cheers.
Pablo Forlàn said:Oh the irony, you FPS lover you.
nonchalance said:I'll play games from any genre, as long as they're good - but FPS games are probably less likely to get a spin than most.
Are you planning on arguing your point, or don't you have a point left?
