This bloke would have to be the biggest moron ever. He is down-right embarassing to himself and his family.

Everyone knows that poor Dougie is struggling for a quid these days, but if he's trying to get himself back into prime time positions (ie. Channel 9 and a radio station that someone actually listens to) by trying to create a headline, then he needs to actually make some sense.

Keep digging holes Dougie and pay the $500 you tight@rse! Your club is struggling financially and on the field, so stop slinging sh*t at them.

I am not sure if anyone heard him this morning on SEN and unfortunately I missed the first part of the interview (which was with Smorgon) but Hawkins really has a chip on his shoulder about something it would appear.

The other week he was in the paper about refusing to pay some littering fine or something and a parking fine he got for parking in a no standing zone as if he was some god that should be exempt from parking fines and such.

This mornings rant appeared to me to be a bloke that is bitter and twisted about the fact that the Western Bulldogs do not want him as a coach and wouldn't offer him a full time job.

The thing about the 54 dinner was crazy. With a club deep in the red as it is what did he expect ? A free night out on the club that could ill afford it, or having the hard working members and supporters subsidising his attendance there because he is the club record holder.

Lost a lot of respect for this bloke this morning the way he put his club in.

I heard the SEN interview this morning and he was truly embarrassing. How many times did he refer to himself in the 3rd person? "Doug Hawkins loves Footscray, but not the Western Bulldogs".

If you are unhappy with Smorgan fair enough, but you have to back it up with a bit more than the fact you are miffed because you haven't been offered a cushy assistant coaches role like some other clubs can afford legends of the past, or because you had to pay to attend the TOTC dinner.

I have to laugh at what he gave up at Channel Eddie. He was the dumbest rich one going around.
You'll see him out the front of bookshops soon trying to advertise the weekly specials.

(No doubt it'll be that "namure" book that went embarassing well... NOT!)

Yep - that 3rd person reference is annoying.

Don't you think he sounds like Jeff Fenech when he rambles on like that?

Dum as dog namure is old Dougie.

Not a fan of David Smorgon, but you can't blame him for not respecting Doug Hawkins, the person.

I mean really, Dougie has a pretty ordinary history, from attempting to burn houses down (with people inside), to hitting women.

Great player, but doesn't deserve the respect he apparently craves.

I'm not sure who is advising Doug but he is consistantly making a fool of himself when he speaks out in the media. It cant be easy slipping back into normal society after the adulated life style enjoyed by AFL players but DH needs a bit of a reality check. His days as a player/media clown are over and the club is bigger than the individual. He cant expect Dave Smorgan and all the others down there working thier arses off to keep the club going to kowtow to him, highest games player or not. It was only a couple of years ago that DH was considering a long service claim that if succesful would have just about finished the club. Talked out of this and given paid roles around the club he seems afflicted with the old "This place owes me a living "syndrome. Dougs decision to allow his coaching/commentary credentials to be fatally damaged by his long term role as the class idiot on "The Footy Show " gave him a short term profile which he is now paying for. The best thing he could do would be to mend his burnt bridges at Whitten Oval and stop bagging the institution that gave hime a life he could never have otherwise known.

The line I couldn't work out was (regarding the '54 reunion) "I thought I should've (of;) ) been invited. It's a very fine one but if EJ was alive........he would've been invited"

A bit before my time but didn't EJ play in the team and Dougie didn't?

I actually with what Doug Hawkins is trying to put across here.

The Bulldogs sadly, have lost their direction under Rohde and somewhat justifiably, Hawkins is feeling for a great mate who got stupidly snubbed in Brian Royal, who must surely get the job next.

I also agree that as the Bulldogs games record holder, he should be entitled to some privileges...he bled for that club and stuck true when it could have been so easy to leave..then they decided not to continue his career for the one more season he deserved..it's about time the club gave something back to him for his hard work..I often wonder, if it wasn't for Dougie amongst others, would the Bulldogs be still around today?

Being the club's game record holder I would think is worth a complimentary seat. I guess our opinions differ.

Doug is Western-suburbs through and through, and while a bit of a goose, deserves better treatment. I'm siding with him on some of these issues.

Poor Doug. Entertaining and highly skilled if over rated player, one time TV clown and current non entity. He's a likeable guy but what the heck other than personality could he add to the Dog's? He wants a full time job to what exactly? Strategy? Picking up after training classes? By all means give your games record holder a free ticket to club functions but I know who out of Smorgan and Hawkins is more important to the Dog's future.

Yeah, I dunno. Whether he should've got a free seat or not to my mind would depend a fair bit on how much he's down at the club on his own time.

One thing is for sure, and that is that whingeing in the media was the worst possible way to protest....his absence and the questions that would follow from the Doggies fans paying $500 a ticket would be enough, I'd think.

Good pickup. I know what he was trying to say but it does illustrate why he has little to offer his old club.

His interview this morning wasn't about comments he made about Rohde's coaching on saturday. It was all about his beef with Smorgon.

He thinks Smorgon is trying to distance the Footscray name from the club's history.

My general issue with him was not solely the seat at the dinner although I do believe it wouldn't hurt him to puit his hand in his pocket and help out the club that is in such financial drama.

The whole thrust of the interview with him however came across as total sour grapes he had not been offered a full time coaching role at the Dogs and that they told Libba thanks but no thanks to a coaching role.

Games record or not if he is not the right person to help the club move forward then the club have every right to make that decision without him acting like a child and taking his spat public and denegrating and harming a very fragile club. What happens if people decide their hero Dougie has been harshly treated and say stuff it not going to renew my membership. The WB are one club that cannot afford to alienate their supporters and Hawkins should know this and pull his bloody head in

You realise this could well explain Dodongo?
