Once again I must ask all Crows supporters to actually watch their videos closely and see how many times young Mick sets up other players downfield with his quick hands.

He must have been responsible for three or four goals today. :thumbsu:

The quick give to Macca who gave it it Bode for a goal is typical of his quick hands in pack situations.

It is high time people stopped calling for his head.

He has played good quality consistent football for two years now.

Fortunately Craig values his role in the team.

Get on the express.

It was good to see him kick a goal today as well. He need to have more confidence in his leg. He is actually a very good kick.

Credit where credit is due. Michael Doughty was very good today and deserved to be named in the best players.

But as the saying goes “Rome wasn’t built in one day” and Michael Doughty has a lot more games like that to be considered safe from regelation most weeks.

As does every player now Crows 98 now tht we have increased depth.

Or should I say Hollywood Crows 98.:p :p

Its no coincidence that he actually had some decent game time. I am very confident that Doughty can do this on a consistent basis if he is gets good game time. It is just too much to expect that you can play at that standard playing on and off the bench all day. I think that the player rotation plan is working well for the crows at the moment but I think its very tuff for the likes of VB, Knights, Skippy etc to run on and immediately read the play. Both Rielly and Doughty have shown that they are much better players when they are able to stay on the ground rather than play from the bench.

The Young Fella had a great game and played like someone should play in his 7th year on a senior list.....so congrats to him. But as they say, one swallow doesn't make a relationship.....or is that summer...????.... ...*I forget sometimes*......but hopefully this will give the little bloke some confidence to choose the first option when using the ball...as it is usually the best option......;)

Careful MD, that was nearly a complement.;)

Do you reuse this post ? it seems everytime doughty plays a good game you hark back to how many years he has been on the list ?
When is the next members day with NC speaking – I really think we need to head down and ask NC thoughts on Doughtys precence in the team

Don’t ask a negative question like how long will doughtly last

More like – Michaels quick hands helps him create plays out of the centre but sometimes seems to hesistate on his first thought –does this kind of dilema effect your thought on whether to play him in a defensive or attacking role ?

just trying to add some context to where Mick is, and has been as a footballer.

My point is......yes he is in good form....and yes...it's about bloody time.

I do agree – but we should also put into context the oppurtunity that some of these guys got during the Ayres experiment – realistically he has only had a year or so in the guts

It’s the same with Hetschel he is a year or so behind most other AFL footballers his age (that is of players who are expected to make it)

But 7 years is a long time – but atleast he is headed in the right direction – unlike Matthew Smith !

err. he played every game last year, most the year before that, and has been regular this season.

does that sound like someone going game to game?

my thoughts on mick, skippy and massie.

they are only depth players (well atleast will be by next year after the draft im about to talk about) and with a supposed super draft ahead, i think these guys (along with jericho, clarke etc) should be making way for a larger number of draftees (say 5/6 (not including players traded)) because the new batch of players, as well as douglas, knights, van berlo, porpy, vince and possibly hinge and others will be able to cover the hole left by these players.

yes, maybe we will be a little less experienced, but on the weekend we showed that with a group of dedicated youngsters we can do whatever we want, and in the long run it will be more beneficial than having doughty, massie and skippy on the list, because we know their potential and as they are now older players, they shuld be surpassed in 2 or 3 years by the players we draft (assuming we do a good job @ recruiting).

it was good to see doughty show what he can do, but im reminded constantly of my shouts of 'not doughty!' at AAMI stadium many times. i think when hes off, hes definately definately OFF, but when in form he's one of those in and under players with enough speed to nip around and have good games. interesting to see how he goes as the season progresses.

well 24 of 25 anyway......but yes Neil has certainly given him every opportunity since taking the reins and he has been in solid form

Another week another good game.

Craigy loves the boy.

i think he can play.

Jump on the bandwagon. "Its just a jump to the left"

Ive been on board a few years now.......

Its nearly as good as the Matttner train!!!

All aboard.

:) :) :)

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere. Has anyone else felt that with Burton out the last two weeks has helped Doughty pick up his game. I think he is a genuine wingman and whats more I think he genuinley looks more comfortable playing on the wing for an extended period rather than in bursts. I also think that without Turdman in the side has allowed Doughty to play a more attacking game (3 goals on the weekend speak volumes to this). I feel he is sort of filling turds shoes at the moment and being given that creative free flowing attacking role that Burton usually plays. This brings me to another point. I think this is the most natural way for doughty to play and how he wants to play. Not get put on the half back flank or play a defensive wing.

I disagree that it has anything to do with Burton's absence.

Burton hasn't played on that wing once this year. He has played accross HFF and sometimes goes back to stop the run of the opposition. Doughty has played on the wing more this year than Burton. Don't be mistaken in thinking that Doughty is a goal kicker. He was in the right place at the right time on the weekend and the fact that he found conditions easier than most might have something to do with it as well.

Doughty was quoted as saying that he feels that his best position is a HBF and that where he thinks he plays his best footy.

It wasn't the goals that impressed me, it was his willingness to put his body on the line & take a hit to win the ball.

I don't think he was any different to normal and IMO he always attacks the ball as he did on Saturday

It can be dangerous when a supporter makes a negative comment on these boards which is seconded by another which becomes the perception of a player.

This can be negative and positive to player perceptions....Doughty to me has always been for some reason unappreciated ....Massie is of a similar ilk.

Always rated this bloke, has taken time but atm is playing some fantastic footy. Basically the main running man out of defence with clean crisp disposal by hand or foot. Stiffy also starts the run but Doughty sure as hell maintains it. He really has been playing well, and to top it off with 3 goals last week is fantastic. Will def have a career best poll in clubs B&F at end of the year.
