Did anyone hear him on jjj thursday when he said that ppl have burst into flames at service stations from static electricity and fuel vapours, what an absolute joke, the guy is a clown, how much longer do we have to put up with his 'know it all' attitude?
Where does he come up with the answers to the questions so quickly, is he a genius? I can't beleive someone is so smart that they know the answer to everything and have it as soon as the question is asked, scam.

Ever considered it might be true? Stranger things have happened.

Possibly. But knowing tons and tons of general/scientific knowledge isn't really about genius. It's a combo of intelligence, memory, and interest in science.

Pretty sure he has a few minutes between hearing the question and being on air. Probably has some text or intenet connection with him for help.

A few years ago too many of his articles in the Good Weekend seemed to me to have been taken straight from snopes.com.:thumbsd: :thumbsd:

(Libel alert - in my opinion - my perception ..........)

He was discussing myths that I had only ever encountered on that site. A little bit too much of a coincidence, methinks.;)

Seem to recall mythbusters doing a mobile phone/service station experiment and eventually had a spark gun at the bowser and still couldn't get a flash, dunno where Karl, I'll start calling him Karl from now on 'cause I'm pretty sure he got the doctorate off the internet, got his facts from, even Mel was sceptical.

As I said. Scam.

It is possible but very remote, and even more so in Aust, as we have nozzels that automatically stop the flow once the trigger is released.
In the US the nozzel wil continue to flow even though the trigger is released. That is when static could build up enough and eventually discharge and ignite the vapours

As I said. Scam.
Has he ever said or implied he knows it off the top of his head?

I don't know either way but always assumed he'd have a big reference book (or the Internet) with him to quickly look at in between the intial call and when he goes on air.

He still knows a lot of stuff and it'd be foolish to think he doesn't occasionally get something wrong. I don't think he's a fraud but then I've never believed he is who you guys think he tries to be.

It is possible but very remote,
Well there you go.

Why limit it to Australia and US? Add in India and Kazakstan and it becomes more believeable.

Maybe it's happened before? Maybe it's a myth?

I'm curious as to what these "controlled conditions" are Mr Man.

I'm glad you asked Mr Lad.

I poured about a litre of petrol into an ice cream container, took a drag of a laramie so it was fired up nice and hot, and dropped the laramie into the petrol and zilch, nada, nought. It put the butt out.

Now don't try this at home kids

She hopped back into her car, became statically charged, came back out, touched the nossle *vapours all around*, bam, fire time, and with the vapours still coming out of the nossle, it became a mini blow torch.

I remember you said you were going to do that, then didn't post for about 30 minutes! We thought we had toasted dice on the menu!! :D
