Other than Collingwood I rated:

Western Bulldogs excellent. Macrae, Stringer and Hrovat all excellent.

Melbourne excellent. Toumpas a great fit with Dean Kent not terrible either. Viney doesn't require a mention as that was previously determined and shouldn't come into consideration when grading their draft. Turlich could late also be a surprise as a back flanker who could go ok.

Port Adelaide excellent. Wines and excellent get and can win the rising star. Clurey another absolute bargain.

Did not rated:

The GWS draft I didn't like at all. O'Rourke and Plowman I wouldn't have selected and would say the same for Corr, Jaksch and Stewart who were all taken early than they should have. If drafting I would have gone: Whitfield, Toumpas, Macrae (Wines strong consideration also but Macrae bc GWS midfield already have so many inside ballwinners that more class is better for their situation), Hrovat, Grundy, Clurey.

Brisbane not great. Mayes early I don't like and Paparone at 23 also I'm really not keen on with Close not high on my list either.

Geelong I didn't like with Thurlow early - div 2 defenders who produce highly at u18 level after Yagmoor I'm not so keen on and with that oversupply of ball I see Thurlow's numbers as being pretty inflated. But Hartman a very clever selection, not sure they needed another forward with Kersten a similar size last year but the talent is there so not bad.

Experts will rate:

Carlton could do very well with Menzel if his knees hold up - though still I do strongly question this. Non the less in their situation getting a guy who is a clear top 5 talent if you forget the knee not a terrible risk with their premiership window open.

I'm expecting others will also like the Fremantle draft with Simpson, Tanner Smith appeals to some then Max Duffy a sneaky selection with bucketloads of talent for those who have watched him in seasons prior.

Plenty will also like the value Adelaide got with Siggins and Atkins both touted as likely 2nd rounders. They haven't come out terrible with Brad Crouch to play next year and likely be a regular.

I thought dogs were massive winners but i have man love for stringer. good on them after they lost lake. Port also did well and also happy for them.

Don't rate the rest and don't really care.

With my three picks for fremantle i had them taking -
Shaw
O'brien
Paparone.

I had Shaw at #17, O'brien at #39 and paparone at #36,

in the actual draft they went Paparone - #23
O'Brien - #28
Shaw - #30.

I'm sure in hindsight fremantle would of been happy with this draft, but couldn't pass up the tantalizing home-grown simpson at 17. I give Fremantle's actual draft a 7/10, got some very good talent (and home grown) but didn't exactly fill their list needs perfectly.

So i was definitely in the right ball park in the phantom, and for my first phantom draft i'm pretty happy with that. Hope i can take part next year :thumbsu:

Western Bulldogs

Phantom
#5 Jonathon O'Rourke (went at #2)
#6 Lachie Plowman (went at #3)
#22 Taylor Garner (went at #15)
#50 Lachlan Hunter (F/S but went at #49 ;) )
#51 Jordan Bourke (Don't think he got drafted, hopefully he will get rookied and become a star so my selection is justified )

Vs

Real Draft
#5 Jake Stringer
#6 Jackson Macrae
#21 Nathan Hrovat
#49 Lachie Hunter
#50 Joshua Prudden

Well I obviously don't know their list as well as they do themselves but I felt as though they needed a KPD and a KPF when selecting for them. They didn't grab one at all so maybe I was barking up the wrong tree with Plowman, or maybe they just didn't see the opportunity to grab a KPD. I also wanted a KPF but decided to wait till my pick in the 50's since Garner was available. Once that 50's pick came around I noticed most of the talent in that area (that I knew of) was gone and I was left searching for a name. I'm wondering if the same thing may have happened to the Dogs (or maybe they see Stringer as the solution to the KPF?) and they just decided to go best available instead of needs.

I still think they would have been happy with my selections but I guess we won't really know who came out on top for a few years.

Bulldogs and Port the best for me. Saints the clear worst I thought in terms of taking players early/players that were lesser in most people's opinions to those who were still available.

You managed to get the FS wrong :p

Yep you have to be very happy with the Bulldogs. They have holes all over the field...but I think these days you have to solve your midfield problems before anything considering the congestion.

They have Boyd and Cross ageing, and Giansiracusa as well. Plus they have lost Ward. So they needed an urgent fix.

Stringer is a bull, whilst Macrae provides the outside run they desperately need. They have insiders with Koby Stevens, Libba and Wallis. But they needed another and Hrovat is a gem. So a perfect fit for them.

In terms of talls...I think the loss of Lake is overdone. They still have Markovic, Williams and Roughead to play defence. There's a few others I just can't think of as well.

No doubt they need to address their Key Position talls soon, but I think it had to be midfield this year.

Port did really well too I reckon.

Apart from us :D I have these as the three other winners or teams I rate in the draft:
Western Bulldogs
Did really well. Stringer, Macrae, Hrovat and throw in F/S Hunter. They form the nucleus of a strong Dogs team in the future. Although they maybe failed in landing a tall forward or defender - which they desperately need - I think they were best served by going for the best available. I can see their Captain & VC in the future coming from these guys.

Port Adelaide
Port did great! Ticked so many boxes. Wines is a steal and gives them the midfield grunt they needed. Mason Shaw is a good fit up forward as is Clurey down back. Couldn't have hoped to do much better with what they had.

Sydney
Towers, Membrey, Marsh & Dick. Not names that jump out, but all cannily good picks for them. Towers & Membrey are ready to play and can strengthen the premier team. Add Tippett to that and they are a better team than last year. I think Membrey is a steal for them, he will fit perfectly in their forward line & do well on the small SCG. I see Towers as someone who can instantly impact as well or at least give great depth - think Isaac Smith type pick up. Marsh is a solid defender and they needed some depth there, while Dick has a lot of upside (pun intended!) and pace off half back which the Swans love.

Special mentions to Melbourne for landing Toumpas, thankyous go to GWS, he will be a better player than Scully. Nth Melb also did really well.

Who I didn't rate:
GWS
GWS I think missed some great talent so I don't rate them at all. Surprised they went with so many talls. I think it was a low risk low reward draft for them. They didn't need any more mids and I get that, but I think they had a chance to go for some x-factor and different types. I still can't believe they passed Grundy - they must be set on getting Tippett.

Carlton
This is a bit harsh, but f.. it, its Carlton. Temay & Graham were good solid gets at those picks for sure. Menzel could be anything & I guess you have to pick the best available. However, Menzel as good as he may be doesn't really fill a need on a list that has some serious flaws. Add to that the risk of his knees and I think they have missed the mark. Could easily be proven wrong given Menzel's obvious upside.

I think Carlton did well unfrotunately.

Menzel looks an absolute elite talent and they got him at #11. Selwood went at #7 off the back of knee troubles..

Feel Graham was also a good pickup and was later than I thought.

How well carlton did will all revolve around can menzel's knees hold up, and i dont think they can.

There's that, and there's also their lack of a decent key forward after Waite. They must really rate Casboult. Mind you, I can see why you'd take Menzel, it's not a Lucas-over-Talia type B'lose pick.

So apart from Menzel how did Carlton do particularly well?
After Menzel they just didn't make any obvious blunders. There weren't any smokies. It was actually a typical Carltank could-have-been-mailed-in draft.
