I've gotta laugh at the in depth reports and conclusions the media draw on this bloody boot camp. Beep tests, vertical leap...LMAO....ok if we're looking for the next Michale Phelps or Tamsyn Lewis...what about the 200 burpee, gut busting run & pack mark in the goal sq test:eek:

My message is footballers first , athletes second...I wonder how Vossy and Buckley would have faired up in Canberra this week:rolleyes:...In all seriousness probably do more harm than good to recruiters assesment. It's how fioras and JONS rocket to prominence as they skittle around the squash court in tune with the beep....My advice, dont bother turning up, watch the tapes adnauseam from U18, wafl, sanfl and follow up with a visit to the folks to see what kinda of upbringing and values the kid stands for...:thumbsu:

it just to see how high they can jump and how fast they can run.
if a team had 2 people and didnt no whoto pick, this would go into helping them

There's merit in it I'm sure. I tend to be of the Bojangeles school of thought tho ;)

It's another good marketing/exposure ecercise for the AFL to keep cramming footy down our throats (just hte way we like it:o) despite the season being finished

It can be useful though. Agreed it shouldn't be a sole determinator in where a player gets drafted, but it can reinforce clubs' views on a player etc.

Eg. I was reading the top 10's for each test yesterday, and Jack Watts' name popped up quite a few times, from memory in 20m sprint and possibly vertical jump as well, two things that are obviously very important for a player of his position. We already know he's a gun footballer, we've seen that throughout the season, but these vital attributes further strengthen the belief that he will be a very, very good AFL footballer, and as such will be picked accordingly.

The media are the only ones stupid enough to draw in-depth conclusions from the draft camp. The draft camp probably wouldn't have too much of an influence on the recruiters thoughts. They would probably draw the most from the interviews they give to the players.

Would usaiah bolt make a footballer....i dont think so , we need footballers first athletes second.....to be a footballer you are also an athlete, to be an athlete you dont need to be a footballer

did you bother reading my post. if richmond had at pick 8 ziebell and sidebottom to choose from this could help determan who we pick.

All these tests and measurements are just like looking at stats - if you can't tell if a bloke's a good player without looking at them you don't know what you're talking about. Nobody needed to test Jack Watts to know he was super quick and agile for a big bloke. Equally, anyone who discounts Steele Sidebottom because he doesn't scorch the turf (sorry, basketball court) is an idiot.

spotted jack watts having lunch with russel robertson today.. team-mates next yr? i think its pretty much a certainty now

Had to laugh at Malthouses' interview yesterday at draft camp. Basically said it was rubbish and the only thing good about it was meeting the players. Spot on. :thumbsu:

The draft camp would be useful if we played on basketball courts against sides consisting of witches hats or if your main ambition for the Grand Final was to win the half-time sprint.
