List Mgmt. Draft Discussion 2016

I would do what melbs did in the draft last year this year and get 2 1st rd pick in top 8 sacrificing next years(if we think the talent is there.) Get SPS and Will Brodie up top and then leave a pick for Kym Lebois and a tall mid with our 4th. Hence we address Midfield height, speed and skill.

Having watched some of the SA state trials and knowing some of the players in the U18 squad the name I'm hearing is Kym Lebois. Apparently been dominating and is fast strong and has a bit flare about him. Could be a bolter, but even tho he's a bit small would seriously look at him.

Knock it off Kym. No one's fooled.

Unfortunately Jy Simpkin has suspected broken leg playing for Scotch on the weekend

Might make him a bit cheaper come draft time. Shame we don't have a second rounder.

Agree, but maybe the club will look to trade in or trade back...not sure what they are looking for ATM, however unsure whether we want another small fwd

We all know my main man Will Brodie is the lad I'm hoping lands at Moorabbin, but a sleeper to keep an eye on is North Ballarat's Hugh McCluggage.

Member of the AFL Academy, 185cm wingman who's a handful forward, played two games, named twice in the Bests, kicked three goals so far. Can play.

Where is he expected to go in the draft, I haven't taken any notice of him and with a name like Huge Mc Nuggets he should be front of mind.

Just saying to some of my fellow draft staff that I know next to nothing about him and he's flown almost completely under the radar.

EDIT: my man Bishop - aka the Best In The Business - says he's an outside type, really smooth mover and time seems to stand still for him. Very silky and a great decision maker.

Compares him to Corey Ellis, who was compared to both Dom Tyson and Steele Sidebottom in his own draft year.

Yep. Almost a carbon copy of his brother, just not quite as good.

You'll love it when it's preceded by "... And the winner of the Norm Smith medal for 2019 is..."

It's a warning! Young fella has the potential to cause us more grief than Cousins and Martin combined.

Beware of this kid and his huge luggage!!!:eek::eek:

Sam Landsburger said in today's HUN (at the end of the article on how Collingwood could pay through the nose for Treloar if they finish really low this year) that "clubs aren't overly bullish about this year's draft crop".
This year's draft crop is too early to call surely, but like others who follow the kids' journeys I'm fascinated anyway.

It occurs to me there seem to be even more academy players each year. Indigenous and multicultural academies are starting up and the new academy zones for AFL clubs means there will be exponential growth in the numbers of players "tied" to an academy. If those academies show themselves to be worth their value they will develop players quicker and more players will be available of a higher standard than without them.

In theory anyway.

All this leads me to conclude that we should not disregard academy players as they can't all be picked by their respective teams. The power of a high draft pick (and the cost of matching it) will make the decision critical for both the academy team of the sought-after player and the team with the pick.

Knowing who you really want is the hardest part.

im guessing this is allowed to post this link. but for anyone who wants to find Knightmares rankings and phantoms drafts this year go to

if I'm not allowed to share the link mods just delete it

Well done to Knightmare getting himself an ESPN gig. I always like his phantom draft. Anyway comparing Huge Mc Nuggets to Robbie Grey has me sitting up. He sounds similar to the way Clayton Oliver played last year, he just did stuff that looked like it would translate well into senior AFL footy.

On the tall midfielder watch, two more Victorian players to consider for a later pick. Joe Atley (brother of Shaun) captain of the Bendigo Pioneers is a "natural midfielder". 30 possessions and 10 clearances last round. 186cms and 84kgs he has averaged 85 fantasy points and been in the bests every round of the TAC Cup so far.

A goal-kicking tall midfielder to keep an eye on is Willem Drew from the North Ballarat Rebels. 188cms and 78kgs he's also been in his teams best all three rounds averaging 96 fantasy points.

They would surely have to change early academy picks to have a longer first year contract?

Wonder what the rate of go home factor will be of academy players drafted to other states

We actually encourage link posting. It's when people copy entire articles and paste them into threads (giving no reason to click on the link) that causes an issue.

I've loved reading KM's work over the last 3-4 years, really happy to see his hard work has paid off.
