Compared to Shaun Burgoyne who i think (when on song) is equal best in the competition to watch moving through traffic. Sublime.
6. Hartlett - Classy midfielder.
7. Hurley - Solid, smart key position player. Can play forward and back and is a good user of the ball. Will be a dependable CHB and will allow Moore to play loose or on smaller, less talented backs.
8. McKernan - Troy Simmonds with pace and agility. Biggest problem is versatility. Will a side allow him to settle and learn a position. I have a feeling ruck might be best for him.
9. Sidebottom - Will run all day but doesn't have any outstanding qualities apart from run and ability to kick on either foot just as well.

Take Vickery if he's there or Hartlett, Ziebell or Swift and hope that Roughead or Redden are still available in the 2nd round.

I hope they don't take another in between player, a jack of all trades/master of none type. This is what McKernan may end up as. With Polak, Schultz and Pattison on our list it suggest's we've never been able to really develop such a player.

Where’s the club at?

The Tigers are in the exciting/uncomfortable position of being mid-table and on the rise, and thus having to deal with a strange feeling – expectation. Along with Carlton, they're expected to be 2009's big improvers, having risen from 16th to ninth this year. With a solid defence, quick midfield and developing forward line, the Tigers simply must make the finals this year. If they do, it will be for just the third time in a quarter of a century, although they have finished ninth four times in the last decade.

Needs:

The Tigers need experience – unlikely to be procured through the draft – and depth, so expect to see them take the best players available. They could do with a ruckman to back up the big-hearted Troy Simmonds, while the move of Matthew Richardson to a wing means they could use a key forward or two to work with Jack Riewoldt. The back six is pretty settled, but another key defender or two can never hurt. No different to a lot of clubs around the middle of the table, really.

Recent drafts:

Poor ladder position means good draft picks, and the Tigers have loaded up in recent times. Trent Cotchin and Alex Rance were taken in 2007, while 2006 produced Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, Shane Edwards and Daniel Connors. The Tigers also traded to get Graham Polak, Mitch Morton and Jordan McMahon.

Chance of taking recycled players:

Unlikely. The Tigers showed faith in their young list in 2008 and it paid off. Expect them to build future depth rather than falling into the trap of topping up while outside the eight. Kent Kingsley in 2007, and Trent Knobel and Patrick Bowden in 2005 will be recent reminders of the dangers, although McMahon has been good since his arrival last year.

What coach Terry Wallace says:

"Best player or needs? I'm best player, but you have to have a strategy for both. You never let Ian Stewart go past to try to pick up Whale Roberts, no offence to Whale. Trying to get the ruckman and you let a champion go past, you have to be careful of that. All of us still have to have a calculation of where our list is at, and what we still need to get a better list."

We say:

Whoever the Tigers get with pick eight should be stellar. The smart money is pointing to under-18 All-Australian Hamish Hartlett from Port Adelaide, brother of Carlton's Adam. But if he's gone, the Tigers could go for Vic Metro ruckman Tyrone Vickery if he has not already been snapped up. The whisper is that Port Adelaide is also trying to decide between the same pair, with the Tigers keen to scoop up whoever the Power doesn't take.

I was on the Trengove boat, but after more research I reckon McKernan could be the boy/man for us. He has great presence, vice-like hands, a good leap and is very quick/agile for his height. He also has a shape that overtime will allow him to morph into a power full-forward if required to do so - that is after his 10 years as a gun CHF is over;). He also has football smarts and an aggressive attitude, necessary attributes for a top-shelf CHF. If we want a kid who could be ready to help us make a tilt for the cup in 2 years this is the bloke, even moreso than Vickery and Trengove.

I'll just say I would be happy with 1 of these 3 at 1st rounder!!! If i was to take a punt on the draft my money would be on both Hartlett and McKernan, so i would need good odds i reckon...

That's reasonable. Would be very keen to get a quality big forward as i think this is our biggest weakness.

Curious as why you have hartlett ahead of ziebell.

I read recently that he was injured for the last 6 rounds of the tac cup but before that was by far and away the most dominant midfielder.

I have also read that Yarran was injured prior to the championships and perhaps that is why he appears lazy. the word is that had he been available last year he would have gone infront ot Cyril.

Either of these guys could be a show for 8.

cos on the main board it says under the richmond retirees and delistings list thoson is in it
 
Redden, Roughead or Stanley?

If we go for a quality forward or mid with pick 8 (Vickery will be gone IMO) should we go for a Ruckman with pick 26 and if so which one of these blokes would you take?

Can somebody please show that video to Tambling! I don't think his entire career has been that influential!

Yes they were game changing.

If you were, do you discount that he is one of the stars of last year's draft?

Got some gossip from the D & T board that Yarran will go to Essendon at 5 if he's available which could leave us more of a choice at 8.

What do you make of his lack of pace? Do you think he can hold down CHF permanently? I have major concerns, or at least too many concerns to want us to take him at eight.

I'm a very, very, very big Hartlett fan.

Ziebell is bigger bodied, good overhead, has that extra versatility that Hartlett lacks, but Hartlett's disposal, and his reading of the play is top shelf, too good to pass up on in my opinion.

Didn't he record a sub 3 second 20m time at the Draft Camp?

Haven't looked at his time at Draft Camp, but when I've seen him he's been reliant on his size, or has been crashing packs.

Rarely does he break free from the defender, when up forward.

he is super fast not slow at alldraft camp 2.90 over the 20 meters very fast for a big player
