yes and that is alo the more reason you should trade heavily for this Bradley clone :) .

I thought you guys would be in the market for a young key defender or do you see Thurstans or Morgan fulfilling that role.

Thurstans would be of interest to us and some of us here are keen on Lade.

Heh :)

Pretty much, with Scott Bassett on that list also. Chad Cornes a possibility too if we can get some more tall forward talent.

Thurstans would be of interest to us and some of us here are keen on Lade.
I'm not going to pretend I know if either of them are considered tradeable or not....only players with a higher market than actual value are near definitely on the trade list, and thats neither of those two.

Any interest ?

John Baird is on the roos rookie list and assuming the roos new coach is not crazy.. and doesnt have a mental problem (That was light hearted and I do not mean to offend anyone- apologies if I did) then John Baird will be on hte Roos snr list next year.. Pagan basically promised it- and altho hes gone I cant see ne1 else down at the Roos disagreeing.. he was bloody good when he was on the snr list this year.. and he should.. and hopefully will be on the Roos snr list.

Any interest should wait until the Roos have made their decision on him.. if they want him {they will}- you should reconsider.

Go Roos

With the Blues rumoured to be in salary cap breach does that mean there is a good chance they will lose their priority draft picks and we move up the pecking order two (or three?) spots?

Wouldn't it be lovely.

for what it is worth I am in the take the best player avaialable camp. If he is a midfielder then take him. I am not yet so desperate that i think a speculative pick on a tall is the way to use our first pick. And I am certainly not desperate enough to go for Fevola. He is a dud and the fact that he is 188 centimetres tall only means he is a 188 cm dud.

I agree if we have a top 3 pick, go for one of the players who is _guarenteed_ to be a gun. Judd / Hodge (from last years draft) for instance were pretty much guarenteed to be players.

However if we have pick 6, Im not sure that we are guarenteed a topshelf player anyway, so we may as well go for a Johnson/MacIntosh/Schulzt/Brennan.

Re: TAC TEAM OF THE yEAR

These players are still playing in TAC finals this weekend:
Stephen GILHAM (Oakleigh Chargers)
Daniel SIPTHORP (Calder Cannons)
Blake GRIMA (Eastern Ranges)
Kade SIMPSON (Eastern Ranges)
Corey BROWN (Murray Bushrangers)
Hamish McINTOSH (Murray Bushrangers)
Stephen DINNELL (Eastern Ranges)
Brad FISHER (Eastern Ranges)
Jay CHEEP (Calder Cannons)
Leigh TREEBY (Eastern Ranges)

So ten of them are from the Top 4 sides, who said just the AFL AA team is lopsided! Most of the list above are quality players though.

I think there's a talented AA U18 player in there who has dropped off a bit since he played for Vic Metro...on form he's probably lucky to have been put on a wing in this team. How have you rated his 2nd half of the season Doc or OldSchool?

I doubt Stephen will be playing as he has been on crutches all week.

That is a shame as he is one of the three best players I have regularly seen this season.
Whilst he has a very light frame he has one of the best young football brains and conducts himself in a mature manner.
I rate him as a cant miss draft pick.

I'm not so sure about him, sure I could talk him up, but I won't! :D
He is extemely injury prone, always seems to be in a sling or on crutches, and his frame as you said is light, this could get worse with an extra 15-20 kilo's on board.
Of course I could be completely wrong, and I'll always tell him I believed in him all the way! ;)

I saw one match earlier this year and he really imposed himself on the game by taking about 12 marks across half back. When he wasn't marking he spoiled his opponent attempts and had a great game.
Whilst he has a light his frame it seems to me to be able to accommodate extra weight easily.
The Doggies were lucky to get Sam Power from Oakleigh last season and I think any club that lands Gilham would also be very fortunate.

He's such a valuable tall for Oakleigh so it's bad luck that he won't be playing. He's had an injury for a few weeks I think and missed Round 18 and the first final, but played last week. Perhaps he shouldn't have played...he didn't do much in that game anyway.

Am I over-simplifying things, or is our draft choice looking straightforward?

We have pick 6. Goddard, Wells, Salopek and Schammer appear to be the top 4 midfielders and will go before our pick. Freo, St. Kilda and maybe even Carlton could do with a ruckman which will make it likely Johnson will round out the top 5.

That means our first pick will be between Gilham, Schultz, Brennan or Grima.

I would take a big guy, so that dismisses Grima.

The discision then becomes:
Gilham may be the better player, but is he big enough?

Can Schultz re-produce his junior form at senior level?

Does Brennan have more improvement than the others?

I have never seen ant of these guys and am purely relying on what has been posted here.

If I was to lay a wager on who the Dogs would pick up my money would be on Gilham. That would be an excellent choice even though I'm for Brennan. These 2 look to me as though they have the most upside. I know Johnson is highly rated by Clayton.

Just another thought here.

Last year Polak was the hot property tall kid. Co-incidently he had a quiet national carnival as well but still went at no. 4. It is arguable as to whether his junior form was any better than Schulz. If anything Schulz's may be better.

In terms of pure dimensions I like the look of MacIntosh. Can anyone fill me in on his downside, I.E. is he slow, can he kick etc.

Local, I made this call on him in the other draft thread

-----------------

his workrate when in the ruck seems a bit suspect and his attack on the ball looked a bit soft for a big fellow. saw him get shunted into the grandstand by a guy half his size! He needs to learn how to use his bulk to better advantage in both marking duels and in bust contested areas. One of his peers Paul Johnson is far superior in this situation imo.

but everyone has strengths and weaknesses and guys of these dimensions and natural football ability don't grow on trees. He has kicked a few bags this year. So if you put his size and goal kicking ability together he's a likely 1st round pick. Couldn't see him lasting through to our 2nd pick.
-----------------------

In addition to that I would say he is probably IMO the type of guy who would dominate against a weak team but would struggle against quality opposition. H e would be a very handy player to have so long as you would have other focal points. Don't think we should use our 1st pick on him, 2nd maybe.

A Bandy type then?

Kade Simpson from Eastern is the player. He only had one game with over 14 possessions since he played for Vic Metro. That's pretty ordinary for a wingman I think. He's a lightly built left footer who comes from a top side. I think there are other players in the TAC Cup who are more deserving of a position on a wing in the Team of the Year.

I was just wondering how OldSchool or The Doc have rated Kade Simpson's recent form and whether they think he will be drafted or not?

I don't want to sound too mean but as someone whose seen a fair few TAC games this year, he's the one I don't agree with.

You'll be happy to know that I agree with all the others, although Daniel Sipthorp isn't really a back pocket player...but Luke Darcy isn't a forward pocket either!

Jim, If you saw Grima play as many times as I have you would not dismiss him as a possible selection and I know we need talls but this is a very competent player. He also has the ability to play as a forward and kick a few goals. With Libba retiring, we could use another player in the engine room and Grima would be a great addition. Most of our midfielders are not suited to the centre square but this player could thrive in that environment.

A lot of draft junkies only get to one or two games and judge players from what is just written about them in the papers and the TAC website however, they really need to get out and have a look because guys like Grima play well nearly every week.

I believe guys like Gilham, Grima and Johnson to be right in the mix of players that will be considered by the Dogs and there will still be some good prospects for our second and third picks.
Whilst the youngsters will need plenty of time to develop into senior players, there are some exciting prospects if we get our selections right.

Kade Simpson has had a few injury worries since playing for Vic Metro. There were some pretty tough matches and a fair bit happend behind play ( When Salopek popped his shoulder he coped a couple for good measure before the trainers got out to him) and I think the three matches took there toll on a number of
the players.
Simpson was in great form early in the season and probably won his selection on those early performances.
At worst he should have been selected on the bench.
He needs a lot of work to build himself up but is a good chance of being selected.

How many matches do you get to and who do you believe is the best players you have seen this season.
I thought Shackleton was an outside chance of being a bit of a smokey but then he went an one the medal so now everyone is aware of him.

probably at least 25.

Best player I've seen for consistency is Blake Grima. He uses the ball well on both sides, and is good in the air and below his knees. I reckon he's the most dangerous player in the TAC Cup for opposition sides. He is the most interesting one to see where he goes in the draft, but he sure can play.

I have a similar opinion regarding Grima.
Do you mainly see Ranges games or a cross section of all teams ?

How do you rate Tom Hooker as a potential draft pick ?
