I’m really curious to see what we ultimately do with pick 34, remembering it came to us as part of the Starcevich trade that saw our R1 pick moved up from 17 to 13 and our R2 pick 24 split into 34 and 53. It’s also part of four picks across R2 and R3 that need to be condensed into 2 (or 3 if we create a 6th list spot)

We can either-
• Use it to move pick 13 further up the order with Carlton (pick 9) or possibly Hawthorn (pick 10)
• Trade it for a future pick - most likely to a club needing points to match a bid (Gold Coast might need extra points to match a bid on Addinsall for example)
• Use it to match a bid on Tylah Williams either on its own or with pick 41 depending on when the pick comes
• Hold onto it as the pick likely shifts up a few places on the night and there projects to be some handy players still on the board at that pick - Rodriguez is one possibility among several others

If I had to guess, I think we end up trading it and then use later picks to match bids on Williams and Banfield if necessary. Which is why there appears little interest in opening up a sixth list opening despite it being an obvious and easily achievable thing to do
Still 4 days to go until list Lodgement. I'd say they will have a final meeting this week with all the relevant people and work through these things.

I'm not sure why people are getting so worked up over something that could still happen with Cripps. Melting after the lodgement date is fine if people feel the need.

Nah by then it will be in the past so no need to melt, time to then focus on not melting over the draft before or afterwards, only in the moment like a game day thread (where you can't melt because you've gone too early. Or too late).

I think we will be open to all options.
If we don't take a KP player/tall with our first 3 picks I can see the interest in Curtin around the 34/41 picks, whichever is still available if no bids come then we will ty and move some into next year with the other pick.

Heard an interview with duursma a few days ago, he said whilst it'd be nice to go 1st in the draft he's more focussed on getting to the club that drafts him and getting to work.
Hopefully we start bidding at pick 1
It should be an easy sell to a competitive kid (which it sounds like Duursma is) that he is more likely to win a flag in the future by us bidding on NGA picks (thereby burning other clubs future draft capital) and not taking him straight away at 1. That's worth far more to him financially and legacywise in the long run than a measly $10k.

No inside midfield help for 3 years. Sign me up.

Not saying I agree or disagree but I suspect the club will present it as an offseason of:

Starcevich, Young, Duursma, CDT, Farrow, Dev, Phillips/Blamires/Clohsey + NGAs/Banfield

On face value you could argue that all bases are covered. A mix of all positions, varying levels of potential and the mature rookie listers are all inside midfielders with 7+ years to go in their career (if we don’t get Mitchell).

Realistically, it only matters for us to bid if we get something out of it.

The thing I can see is if we want a chance at Addinsall at 13. If we want that (and think he'll last that long), then we bid 1+2, and totally exhaust GC's points. Then we have to play the waiting game to see if we get then player - or it means someone else we want drops to 13.

If we don't want to do that, then bidding is neither here nor there - with the caveat that if we think there's any chance of Walter being on the market next year and wanting to play for us, we don't want GC totally pissed off.

A brilliant round 1 game demonstrated CDT's elite talent, and he's essentially remained the standout tall in the draft pool since that point. His movement for a 200cm kid is absolutely elite, the eye test backed up by top 10 finishes in the 2km time trial and 20m sprint at the combine, and his coordinated skills and level of competitiveness complete an undeniably attractive package. CDT is likely to be a slower burn for whichever team picks him on draft night, but he has all the tools to pay off that patience in spades in the coming years.

My guess at this stage and from hearing a few things is that we will take Dursmma at 1 (huge surprise) and then bid on Dean so that Blues need to burn picks 9 and 11 which will bring our pick 13 into pick 11.
I think we then use pick 3 on Robey or CDT but leaning towards Robey.
I'm not sure if we are as into Sharp as most on the board are. The list of delisted agents that have a similar style to him- inside accumulator/distributer but not athletically gifted or versatile, says that most teams and playing styles are moving away from that type of player. I could see him potentially sliding back to 11 and then WCE absolutely tolling the shit out of this board and taking Dovaston if he is still there or Farrow and overlooking Sharp.

Devon Robertson about to be signed as a delisted free agent

Phillips and Mitchell in that frame as well

It's not the stud like Sharp is looking to be, but it is addressing our needs so might be why CDT/Farrow would be in consideration there.

Thanks for this.

I won't be too upset if we do take CDT - so much upside as a forward, ruck or unicorn winger. Gives me a few Jeremy Cameron vibes.

In this scenario, what would you offer the dees to trade up from 13 to their first pick to get Sharp? Duursma, CDT and Sharp would be elite. Our F2?
I would, and our F2 is probably the right price for that but I’d start with the Saints F2.

Tom Lamb gives me Jeremy Cameron vibes.

I think it's something posters here should try come to terms with as it looks the most likely outcome at this stage.
I came to terms without poorly structured list a long time ago and nothing about that draft would surprise me. Like others have said it would put a lot of pressure on our latest elections to fill fundamental holes in our list.

There's no doubt that Sharp is the most natural footballer in the draft. I would love him in the team. With CDT though, he's a tall that moves like a much quicker, smaller player and ultimately that's just too compelling to pass up imo. He's a bit rougher around the edges, but he could be a real weapon for us. I say go for it. Who dares wins.
