I am thinking maybe we should hold off this pick 8 pursuit and get Houli in PSD.

Foley can regain his form after injury. and if a good draft in 2012, free agency arises, and Geelong trading like maniacs what for our opportune time

Lynch is a funny one, he is very tall but good below the knees. So difficult to assess his prospects. Could be nothing or anything as he gets a build.

I have change my mind he may be worth the punt. If he is a good kick , I think he has reasonable smarts , his jump over the boundary fence and quick reflexes grabbed my attention as is his rise from relative obscurity. He reallly word be the roaming CHF though if he was to make it:D

If we go a mid at 6 and Heppell is gone I'm leaning to Polec. Reminds me of Nathan Brown with his brilliance. One-touch, high hurt factor. Smith looks a very good player too. That's why I really hope we can snare another top-20 pick - we will get two very good kids.

The way he runs is what impresses me. He has a pretty good left shoe and always manages to get around onto it. His supposed arrogance is what would concern me. Would prefer Smith.

I really don't want Lynch I think he looks like a bit of a gump. Admittedly I have only seen highlights of him but he doesn't look to move as well as people have said. He looks a bit like a David Hale type. Would much prefer we draft a mid and then draft Luke Mitchell.

What are your thoughts on lucas cook who may be around come our secound pick also what are your thoughts on smedths.

I'm still massively on the Polec bandwagon too RATD.

Here's my post from the Official mid-season mock to explain why:

Jared Polec - 12/10 1992, 188cm, 77kg, Woodville-West Torrens/Seaton Ramblers

Rangy, outside runner who is a very smooth mover. At 188cm is a perfect size for the modern wingman, and he certainly has the potential to play in the centre square - but he plays outside, he's not going to go in and get a whole heap of it himself. I'm a big wrap on his disposal, think he uses it really well; although he doesn't quite get enough of it for my liking.

I think when I'm identifying players this early they've got to have something that makes you sit up and take notice; and with Polec it's with his evasiveness and just sheer hurt factor when he's got the ball in his hands.

He's a very offensive midfielder - coaches will dream about the kid streaming forward of centre with the ball in his hands, and he likes to do it at every opportunity, which means he's liable to get caught out on the defensive end at times.

I really like his work rate, so aren't too worried about his defensive concerns - but you'd really be banking on his inability to find a huge amount of the ball can be fixed with a bigger tank, and better knowledge of where to position himself on the park.

Pretty sure it is end of first round.

thats what i thought, but after reading a few articles it appears that the compensation pick is end of first round in the next two drafts, and then after GWS come in, its directly after the original clubs pick in the first round.

Both are good players but I do not think either would slip to our second round. If they did we would be laughing. A few months ago Cook was being touted as a top 10 pick. Smedts is a good all rounder who does not really excel at anything in particular. If we snagged one of those 2 with our second pick we have done very well.

People need to look more closely at Josh caddy at 6. If played up forward he is better than Harper and lamb and would complete our midfield. Lynch is WAY to risky at 6 which is notorious for having terrible selections, look at the last decade of selection 6# and there are literally maybe 2-3 ok players. Lynch will be another thorp or dowler who were both taken at 6. Gorringe is interesting and hard to grasp his potential..

with all this talk about grigg should have been traded for a pick instead of collins what are the chance of us getting a better player than collins at pick 46?

our midfield? who do u barrack for? lol

I threw this up on the D&T board as my phanton draft so I thought I would post it here too.

I gave this an update because I wasn't happy with my orginal order. Pretty happy with this and think it could turn out pretty close.

1. Swallow
2. Bennell
3. Day

Pick 4 WC - Gaff

After draft camp he has shot up the order. Emma Quayle reported that West Coast were impressed by his professionalism. If it were my mob at pick 4 I would take plenty of players before this guy but never the less the Eagles will get a good player.

Pick 5 Lions - Heppell

Shattered that the lions jumped the line here. This kid is an absolute star in the making. Great skills and is just a good all round player. The lions new what they were doing going into the Brennan trade.

Pick 6 Tigers - Polec

There are a few guys I would like Richmond to take at this pick but I think Polec is the one we will go with. He has a raking left shoe and can hoist it 60m quite easily. What impresses me about Polec is he seems to be a one touch player, he has an a really good side step, but mainly the fact that he gets it and runs like Stephen Hill and generally delivers on his left shoe. Every now and then the kick won't be flash aka against Norwood in the final moments, however he is justified at pick 6. Apparently pretty arrogant which is one thing that may turn the Tigers off. At this pick I would also like Richmond to consider Smith as I think he is all class and can play anywhere.

Pick 7 GC - Gorringe

Apparently Essendon are keen on Gorringe so expect GC to snap him up at pick 7. A really good ruck talent and although rucks are risky 1st round selections GC have enough picks to have a punt.

Pick 8 - Caddy

This kid again is a gun workhorse. He reminds me of Ben Cunnington/Jimmy Bartel. Would be stoked with him at 6 and can see him going earlier but I think the Dons will not go past him. Can kick a goal which is really important.

Pick 9 GC - Atley

I orginally had him at 4 but changed my mind. His footskills are probably his weakness although they are not that bad. Very quick and agile and a good inside player. Played for Vic Country in the champs and was a national champion hurdler I believe.

Pick 10 GC - Smith

One of the best mids of the draft imo. Can stand up in a tackle, find the ball and has reasonable footskills. He can hoist the ball a long way and kicked a long goal in the SANFL finals series. Could see him going earlier. He has a great burst of speed and dare I say it reminds me a bit of Chris Judd the way he bursts out of packs. Can also play HBF and I actually think his skills seem pretty good.

Pick 11 GC - Lynch

He could go alot earlier. GC will probably gamble that after Richmonds pick both the Lions and Dons are set for KPF. Big CHF with a big engine. I wouldn't be happy if my club took him early but each to his own. Could pair well with Sam Day for 15 years.

Pick 12 MFC - Darling

Could go higher and I think pick 8-12 will shape the draft. However I would not be suprised to see him go here considering his height and form this year. Not quite tall enough but will be enough if he lives up to potential. Also may do a Tom Hawkins when the time comes to play AFL, however has been playing WAFL and would expect him to slot in well at MFC.

Pick 13 GC - Pitt

Silky skills and GC will keep adding to their midfield.

Pick 14 ADE - Parker

Very tempted to put Lycett in but I am backing they will land jacobs and therefore add to their midfield. parker is an all round player that any club will be lucky to land.

Pick 15 GC - Watson

Add to KPD stocks with the best young defender this year. Nice kick and shut down Lynch in a game where he was domianting the first half.

Pick 16 Port - Lycett

Purely just adding to their ruck stocks.

Pick 17 North -

Kid is a gun and has huge upside. Has a bit of Steel sidebottom about him. He can find the goals and should eventually push into being a good wingman in the AFL. At the very least I would expect him to be a damaging HFF for an AFL side and after all the talls North took last year they will relish someone of his class to help out there hard nut mids.

Pick 18 Blues - Cook

The Blues need another KPF and Cook is the best available. Could be a steal at 18.

Pick 19 Hawks - McCarthy

Good player and fills a need for Hawthorn.

Pick 20 Freo - Luke Mitchell

This is a bit of a wildcard pick but I am backing on the fact Freo will be looking to add to there KPF stocks and this kid dominated in the late season. A good TAC final will help his prospects.

Pick 21 Syd - Jed Lamb

Despite taking a similar player last year in Rohan and even Jetta, I think they will go with this kid here purely because he has talent. Some say he will go higher but I think this is about right.

Pick 22 Dogs - Fson Wallis

TAC cup final means no one will outbid the dogs who are stealing him at 22. Cordy, Wallis and Libba's son they are lucking out recently.

Pick 23 Cats - Smedts

Best available.

Pick 24 Saints - Prestia

Has a penetrating shoe and will be a very good player for the Siants. Will push one of their bottom 5 out of the side next year and only improve the overall unit that is St Kilda.

Pick 25 - Conca

Best available

Polec looks good in those videos... He has that ability that it just looks like he cannot be tackled...Side-steps, baulks etc. Only concern is that his first option is to always pump it as long as he can and his disposal can look rushed and he can miss targets. Also, from the second video seems that he is not fit enough at the moment, as he was tagged out of the game in the 2nd half.. Has good speed though, breaks lines and is a 100m player (runs 40 kicks 60)...I'm almost on the bandwagon for this kid...

Wasn't the best highlight package of Smith.. Does the hard things and is good in contested but don't think he is what we are after with pick 6...

Well I just had a look at the vision. Polec got plenty of the ball but that can mean anything just look at the tag, has nice hands though.

Smith to me looks like a footballer, Polec is a receiver

The other thing is, Polec runs towards his heels in terms of his feet, a big no no, Smith doesn't. Looks like Polec might be a better run and carry back but his kicking wasn't as good as the spruikers. Smith has a far bettter football brain to me. Someone has taught this guy or it has come through the genes .

Somewhat agree.. Hardwick said we will look for an outside mid with pick 6. Unless this has changed due to Houli (Grigg is inside) than i would expect us to take whoever is left out of:
Gaff, Heppell, Polec, Atley..

If Heppell's available, he'll be a Lion. :thumbsd:

I've heard whispers of this from a couple of directions.

Hearing it from you seals it. You knew we were going to take Jack Redden with pick 25 in 2008 when none of us even knew who he was.

Cheers Cotch, got anything else for us? :D

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to write and post all of that.

As someone who knows more of this draft than I do, could you answer something for me.

Earlier in the year Darling appeared to be going higher in many mock drafts, but appears to have slid in peoples reckoning. Why is that?

Would you be happy if we took him at 6?

Thanks

It may have something to do with the injuries he received from the punch up he was involved in quite serious injuries if I remember correctly.

http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2010/09/02/king-hit-darling-suffers-fractured-skull/

He suffered a contusion to the front of the brain and a fracture to the back of his skull.

Hi everybody. Its my first time writing on this forum but please richmond selectors have a look at these kids.

Billie Smedts 8/6/92 187cm 77kg Geelong Falcons- Look at you tube

Kieran Harper 15/6/92 187cm 78kg Eastern Ranges-Look at you tube

Mitch Hallahan 23/8/92 182cm 77kg Dandenong Stingrays-Look at you tube

Andrew Gaff 16/6/92 183cm 78kg Oakleigh Charges-Does not stop Running

Jack Darling 16/6/92 190cm 86kg West Perth- If his all clear from that incident.

Whenever we have a pick and any of these kids available please take.

Ok. I've made up my mind. If we can't get Heppell we toss a coin between Tom Lynch and Kieran Harper. Both ooze class, athleticism and massive upside. I like Polec but he could be one of those blokes who looks a good kick but kicks a lot of points, where Harper could find the goals blindfolded. He can be a star.

For pick 27 (if we use it) - Seb Tape first choice. Tall (191), mobile back flanker who is good in the air and kicks beautifully. Otherwise Josh Green, Ben Jacobs, Luke Parker - the best mid left.

Other players I like who will hopefully be around our second/third rounders include Patrick Karnezis, Alex Fasolo, Viv Michie and Darcy Barden.

Yeah, I thought Polec was good to watch.... just needed to work on his finishing a little bit.... could have finished with 3 or 4 majors in that prelim... reminds me of someone with his kicking.... Beau Waters maybe???

No problems mate.

With Darling I would say it is a combination of the fact that he didn't really back up his form at the carnival this year and also that he didn't really kick on growth wise. He is in the low 190's but not really KPF monster that you need, I mean people question Jacks height and he is 195cm.

I wouldn't say he will be in our calculations at 6 as i think there are plenty of guns to go before him, however he could be an absolute star at AFL level and therefore if we did go down that road I wouldn't complain.

@AMCRE

Quick question on Joel Wilkinson who is one that I'm not quite sure how to place.

Obviously tested well which is always positive but no reason to really rise in calculations. From the research I've done looks like a leader, natural athlete, hard worker etc.

Where do you think he will end up selection wise in the draft?

I don't think he'd be a bad get for our 2nd rounder, take him with the 3rd in a heartbeat.

Richmond selectors are not going to be trolling through the boards looking for advice. They get paid a lot of money to form their own opinions.

i THINK THEY SHOULD GET SUPPORTERS ADVICE. HAVE A LOOK AT PREVIOUS SELECTORS. THATS WHY RICHMOND IS IN THIS POSITION.
