who do u think we will end up with.??
Do u think it might end up being ERIC McKENZIE, because he is a strong bodied defender, in which we need for the CHB position.

But our pick 11 needs to be a blue chip investment (200+ game player), as in this so-called 'superdraft' our next pick at 45, may be hit and miss. Lets hope Clayton picks a gem at 11.

13) Eric Mackenzie
Key Position Player
193cms and 88kgs

Claremont (WA)
Physically powerful and strong key position player. Played mainly down back and it is as a defender where I have been most impressed with him. Plays really tight and reads the play and anticipates well. Legitimate big defender who has strength and discipline. Good skills and is quite attacking on the rebound but it is his bodywork which catches the eye for me. Rarely beaten and does it with power and positioning.
When played up forward is capable of taking a good strong contested mark but does not seem to have the same good natural instincts as when he plays as a defender. Played some ruck when he was even younger and has been basically the same height for a number of years. So unlikely to grow a lot more but at 193cms is tall enough to play a key position player.
Seems to have good endurance and his pace was fine. Suited to playing down the corridor on power players. Tough and physically ready and seems to love body contact. Athletic and versatile.
Just missed the last draft and will be top aged this time and ready for action in his first year on an AFL list. Not quite as much scope for improvement as some of the other talls available but he is a pretty solid key position prospect who is not a really a risk for a team who needs a tall defender.
I think he could play either end as he develops but do think he is best suited down back at this stage.
7) Jack Riewoldt

Very impressive at the U18 Championships and stood out for Tasmania. Played all over the ground and showed he was up standard as a forward or as a back. Looks like his cousin Nick and moves like him. Not as athletic (who is?) but has good pace and endurance and the trademark long searching lead of Nick. Also showed the ability to play as a key defender and looked very comfortable there organising the defenders and using his body. Read the play and was not caught out and was good in the 1 on 1 contests.
Clean handler of the ball and especially above his head. Capable of taking a pack mark and playing on stronger and physical opponents when up forward. Showed his class and maturity by dominating in the finals in Tasmania for Clarence (senior football) where he played as key forward and kicked 4 and 5 goals in successive weeks and took a lot of strong marks and was there best finals player.
Was targeted in those games from his opponents but never shirked the issue and was impressed with that. This is not TAC cup where the slightest indiscretion is picked up but a pretty physical and rough style.
A good kick and fine athlete who is tough, versatile and already a good size. Has a very good leap and is similar in style to his cousin.
This is from Mojo's sumarys. Personally I would like Riewoldt. Hopefully collingwood won't take him though

In a way, yes. Kinda like West on Brownlow night; there's a good chance there's going to be success, but it never quite happens. But it doesn't bother me where we pick up players from, as long as they can play a bit.
There's no question that we need a power forward, hopefully there's one around at pick 11. IMO we also need another hard-bodied midfielder, a crumbing forward and a solid defensive option.
Was Michael West bottom age last year? Would be interesting to see where he would be rated among this year's draft. I think he could become a very good footballer.
Micheal West turned 19 in febuary. Dont know if tht makes him a bottom ager or not.

Don't really care where there from. There is still a lack of talls and een though they have done well top fix this over the trade period, It shouldn't be assumed that Doogs let alone darcy can step in ad fix the problem Thedogs are still a young list and so IMO drafting and trading for young talls is still the way to go. Just because some of the other options haven't come through yet, doesn't mean we should stop persuing.

Drafting yet another unproven tall player is not going to magically solve our problems, unless we get lucky super lucky and one of them morphs into Jon Brown between now and round 1. Now that we have traded for a tall in McDougall, surely our priority with our one remaining high pick must be just to get the best player that we can. Unlike tall players, you can just never have too many good players.

i've seen him a few times, and every now and then he'll bob up and do something special but he also goes missing for long periods and doesn't appear to work hard enough.
For instance, he stepped up and played a couple of decent games for tassie devils this year, that's a vfl senior side, and he showed he was capable at that level. You could look at this and say that it means he's better than most of our developing talls already.
On the other hand i've seen him play some games against poor opposition like the vic rep side a few weeks back and he was barely seen, despite the allies destroying the opposition.
i think he's a good pickup and i'd love to have him but there may be better options ahead of him when it comes to our first pick.
I hope we go best available again. If there aren't any gun KPPs available at our pick, I hope we get a guy who has pace, pace and more pace. The faster the better.

I agree, Walsh and Williams were top 6 picks but they have both ad injuries and Williams was basically drafted as a project player. Apart from drafting the only way to get a quality tall is by trading quality, how many would be willing to trade the likes of Eagleton Gia?gridlocked said:

It's not as if our priemership window is just opening a yonug team and should invest in young talls. Our best chance for a flag will probably be from 2008-11 when the likes of cooney and griff are in their primes. The midfield group IMO is just about complete but we should aim to adress our kpp, because it's those types who may become more important in the pressure of finals.

REally we can only see these guys rarely if at all. The people who are best informed to make the decisions are the ones in charge of our club.
It doesnt really make sense if we pick up "Joe Bloggs" with pick 11 and then afterwards say damn I wish we had of picked up "Mick Smith" because we really dont know.
I will be confident that whoever Rocket and co. pick uo he will be the best available player.

What did Sam Power show prior to draft day? Was he a legitmate pick at 11? Or was it based partly on comparisons with his brother?
I'm not going to go over old ground on whether he should've been picked up there or not, but it's interesting that a lot of talk on this board is about the brother of a gun player at another club. I know there have been a lot of good brothers who've played footy before, but how many have been BOTH out and out superstars?

As posters have said before if we were to continue going best available for the next three years and none of our present talls work out then were is that going to leave us. Mojo who made those profiles posted them in like February I think so he must keep a pretty close eye on them. Im not an expert Ive barely seen any of them.
I'm all for best available in this draft. Not a draft to take risks in. There is some huge quality that will fall through to us.
If Proud is available and Thorp and other top quality players are are not, id take Proud before Mckenzie or some otehr KPP.
Although i do believe that we have to try find a defender some time.. Drafting fwds isnt going to keep working. We currently have 6 young talls sitting on our list. Hoping that 1 or 2 atually work out.

Chance are though Sellar will go top 6...then again the pundits expected Higgins to be around 6 to 10 in last years draft and he slipped down to 11 for us to nab. The fact Sellar is a future KPP though might see him taken earlier than our pick.

FWIW many believe Seller is the bolter this year and will not last untill 11, some have Riewoldt inside the top ten as well.
As strange as it sounds, we may end up with another Higgins type at 11, simply because the other recruiters (save for Collingwood & Essendon) seem fixated on talls judging by the rumour mill.
