Crows draftee Richard Douglas only needs to look at his new locker to be reminded of the sudden changes in his life.
Number 26 was made famous by Adelaide’s dual premiership captain Mark Bickley. And now Douglas, the club’s first pick at the NAB AFL Draft, will have the honour of aspiring to wear the number for the Crows.
‘It’s a beauty,” said Douglas, who hails from Victorian country town Broadford.
Bernie Vince, drafted from Woodville-West Torrens, opted not to use the No 52 he wore at the Eagles last season and instead will move into the No 28 locker, previously occupied by James Begley and dual premiership player Kane Johnson. The Crows’ No 28 was first worn by Darren Smith in 1991 and then by Martin McKinnon.
Darren Pfeiffer, from Norwood, will wear No 19 with the Crows. He takes over the locker from the popular Mark Stevens, who retired early this season after playing 101 games for the club.
And Central District’s Alan Obst has been handed the No 1 locker. Romano Negri, Greg Anderson, Ashley Fernee, Lucas Herbert and Andrew Crowell have worn No 1 for the Crows in AFL games in the club’s 15 seasons.
Ruckman Jonathon Griffin, who was upgraded from the rookie list in October, has also made a number change. He has handed in his old No 41 guernsey and moved to No 6, most recently worn by Fergus Watts and earlier by Tony Modra.
