ESSENDON
SCOTT GUMBLETON (2), Peel Thunder, 18, 197 cm (6'4 1/2"), 92 kg ((202)
Strong marking, courageous, and agile tall who can play either end. All-Australian at under-18 level this year after representing WA in 2005 and 2006. Played 15 senior games for Peel this year.
LEROY JETTA (18), South Fremantle, 18, 177 cm (5'8"), 76 kg (167)
Dual All-Australian at under-18s who has excellent evasive skills and goal sense. Super quick indigenous graduate of the AIS-AFL Academy. Played six senior games in the WAFL.
TOM HISLOP (20), Tassie Devils, 18, 184 cm (6'), 86 kg (189)
Powerful player who is strong overhead and a prolific ball winner. All-Australian under-18 this year, averaging 20 disposals and ranking No. 1 for tackles. Excellent speed and endurance.
ALWYN DAVEY (36), South Adelaide, 22, 178 cm (5'8"), 72 kg (158)
Quick left-footed small forward, kicked 39 goals and finished fifth in club best and fairest. Younger brother of Melbourne's Aaron.
BACHAR HOULI (42), Western Jets, 18, 181 cm, (5'9"), 86 kg (189)
Hard working left-footed goal kicker. Vic Metro under-18 representative this year. Consistent ball-winner and fine leader. A devout Muslim who prays five times a day according to his religious dictates. Is the first Muslim in AFL ranks and hopes to be a role model for others to follow in his footsteps.
KYLE REIMERS (47), Peel Thunder, 17, 184 cm (6'), 78 kg (171)
Forward who attacks the ball fiercely, provides good defensive pressure and kicks goals.
The club says: "We're really happy. Gumbleton at pick two is a fantastic pick for the future of our club and to get Jetta at 18 was an absolute steal. We wanted to really get some speed into our midfield, and some class, and some toughness. When you add today's results with Mal Michael, it's really improved our list." - Adrian Dodoro, Recruiting Manager
Analysis: The Bombers loaded up at the "super draft", taking its six players inside three rounds. Gumbleton looks as top notch as any No. 2 draft pick has, and Jetta and Davey bring speed. Each draftee, except possibly Reimers, looks ready to go.
I was looking up articles and stuff on Kyle Reimers and came across this. Interestingly, pretty much everything matches up with what each player has offered so far this year. Most draft analysis are a load of crap, but this one is absolutely true.
They said that "Each draftee, except possibly Reimers, looks ready to go". IMO, Reimers will be the next draftee to get a game. he has been the most consistent apart from Davey so far this year. I saw somewhere else that Essendon have labelled him a "project player". I dont like when Essendon calls players that, because I immediately think of Bolton, Henneman, etc. Having siad that, Ive been really impressed with Reimers. He is younger than the other draftees so it would be a bonus if he played this year anyway, but hopefully he can get a couple of senior games this year and then bulk up abit in the preseason so he can play 22 games next year
.
Thats what I'm hoping anyway
