How many rookies will we elevate? If we promote all three that leaves us with the four picks above.

I would like to see :

16 - Mcinnes 195cm KPB
20 - Dobosz 194cm FF
29 - Lockyer 190cm Utility
59 - Manson ( speculative pick but could pay huge dividends )

Delist Bollenhagen and pick up Bower in PSD

5 KPP's not likely. We lack quality midfield depth just as much as we lack KPP's at least 2 of those picks should go to mids but I agree with which picks to grab McInnes, Manson and Bower in the PSD.

Now that the picks are effectively settled, anyone willing or able to put together a top 30 mock? Would love to see some justifications/predictions, given the picks that have changed hands.

my sentiments exactly the fourth 56 maybe Jordon Wilson to replace Roger
Inside mid pick 29 Josh Waldhuter, Brayden Mckenzie from SA or Hadyn Crozier (Chris 25 recommended in moc draft) all likely types

Marley Williams a possibility too at 56 a bit of grunt and power and good skills apparently. Jordan Murdock another one that can give a bit of grunt and power in the middle, great long kick etc

Pretty disappointed to see the Lions snare Dayne Zorko. Really rated him from the state of origin game.

Back in 2009 it was reported that the draft was a fairly ' weak 'or 'shallow ' draft.

IMO the 2009 ND has proven to be quite strong inside the top 30.

Now I hearing the same talk about this year to be similar to 2009, true or false?

I'd like to see us select best available with our 1st pick & maybe pick 20 too, still unsure! Then by need KPP & Horsely.

The difference this year is that GWS have already taken a cream of players that would have been in this draft via their 17 y/o rookie thing they were allowed to do. On top of that, a handful of goodish pre-listed players that may have gone again are already off the board, and that's on top of the regular 'shallow draft' understanding going around. Plus, in pure mathematical terms, there are a lot more picks all round diluting things - 2 more teams, 2 compo pick and 3-4 priority picks by my quick count. All spreading want talent there is out even thinner.

There's always gems in any draft, but finding them is going to be tougher than ever this time around.

All the better we have three Top 30 picks then. Use those three on kids, the rest on rookie upgrades or guys like Lee/Spurr/Hutchings.

Those 17 y/o's are not available in this years draft anyway. It's next year's draft that it affects.

We are in a good position. The draft is considered shallow considering the talent available after say 25. We have 3 picks in the top 30 and 2 inside the top 20. I think it's just as good an opportunity to grab some quality as any other year.

As mentioned before the 2009 draft pool only contained 2/3 of the normal new talent due to the shifting in the draft age. Therefore, statistically it was the most compromised draft of recent times and looking like the best in our history.

GWS could sign anyone in the country, not on a list, under their 12 picks couldn't they?

The Trent McKenzie, Josh Toy etc picks Gold Coast had last year? Am I way off base?

Yeah you're right here Tayl0r, GWS got the same deal as Gold Coast PLUS the deal with the mini-draft for next year's 17 year olds.

GWS got to choose the best 12 players born January to April from this year's draft (effectively reducing the pool by a quarter!) as well as auctioning off access to the best 4 players from the same period for the 2012 draft.

That said, I think many are underrating the WA boys this year and there might be some real gems available right up to the 40's. And GWS appear to have stuffed up not taking McInness as one of their 12!

Yeah, if they didn't change the draft age a couple of years ago O'meara, Crouch, Garlett, Yarran etc would be availabe in this years draft.

I agree we should take a mid and two KPP's with our first three picks
(mid from: Kavanagh/McKenzie/Grigg/Sumner)
(KPP's from: Kersten/Lockyer/McIness/Dobosz).

Then we should look at Manson if available with our next (may be worth a punt at 29 if we are sure he is committed to playing and will dedicate himself) as well as guys like Horsley, Hutchings, Spurr etc to add that ready to go aspect.

Should look at the best available in the PSD that will fill a need for us followed by a few more mature rookies and a few young, prospective rookies.

WIll back the guys in to get the next Barlow, Broughton, De Boer etc in the rookie draft.

I agree with most of this, but i'd love it if we could pick ah chee up at 29 if he's still there

I'm wondering whether GWS make take a disproportionate number of talls at the top end, given that they've got Ward, Palmer and Scully. It's not exactly elite but given they have the top five then another 6 before we have a pick, we could find that all the premium talks are gone.
