The point is , piss and wind aside , I think you ll find in terms of games played , our pool of r1 picks would be in top quartile of the competition , a random comparison would underline that.

i'd prefer to use decent games played and whether they are in our best 22 atm. It takes out the games that have been gifted .

I am of the opinion that our first round picks haven't been a massive issue outside of the Conca >> Heppell disaster.. Anything after that has been a shit sandwich though

Great idea. I'd be very interested to see a comparison.

I'll take Carlton and try to get it posted today (Friday). If I don't get to it today, I won't get to it before next week, so if anyone else wants to jump in, go for it.

I think our trading strategy especially last few years is what has let us down more than the draft. Then rather than back our judgement deep in the draft which ironically has proved to be solid given the rookie selections of late we have favoured bums instead. I don't doubt that fj has prob run his race as I dare say he sets the strategy so needs to be accountable

You can definitely see where the compromised drafts were.. and even though we didn't spend much to get top-up players like Grigg, Chaplin and Hunt (we spent picks on rucks out of necessity), the return of "games played" by the kids we brought in is very low.
What a bargain was Miles.

Good point , that's what I mean about context , likely no one picked many successful junior rookie selections in that time

In the end you have to compile a list of players that is better than 17 other clubs. Now after 7 years DH and the fd have finally realised the youth policy is the best way to start a rebuild.
Now after picking up Yarran Moore and Townsend late last year it almost looks like they're pulling the wool over our eyes considering the the kids have only genuinely been played since the white flag of Benny was waved after finals were ruled out . People on here need to get out more and watch VFL games to see how other afl based clubs kids are tracking.
 
Needs a shake up

Not enough genuine midfielders and too many flankers. Plus nailing anything past 1st round I can't even think of one. Guys like Nathan broad I honestly think they were guessing at that point
 
I think we need to draft players who can and will tackle.. Rioli looks th goods.
Imo we've got plenty of footballers who are good when th games on our terms (Bellis, sheds, houli, etc) not enough game changers. Players who work hard to get th ball back

Because superstars come in cookies and cream or strawberry cheesecake, not vanilla.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think I've ever had a bad vanilla ice cream, but it's never my first choice.
