As we will enter the dfaft late we will have to trade cleverly

What should we go after and who do we offer with a fair list of promising but untried players we might be quite on the trading table unless something pops up.

I think Gibson is fairly tall so with him and hopefully Watts plus Hentschell and Mcgregor we have the tall fowards The back half is ok.

We need some new blood in the midfield Knights hopefully comes up next year

The big problem i see is the Ruck hopefully Maric comes to hand ok next year but i think Meeson will take a bit more time as he is a bit light unless he has a big pre season of weights.

What are the future of Smith,Massie,Schubak,Scott Stevens,Jericho,Kreuger,Begley and Ladhams

Who of that lot would we be able to get a trade for.

For that lot we'd get somewhere between nothing and fk-all. ;)

Jericho is worth keeping but wouldn't rate a trade.

The rest could all be delisted, but I suspect a couple will survive to be kept as depth to cover injury.

We quite simply need to continue to build our list from bottom up. That means bringing young players through the draft and developing them into good AFL players. Thats how you rebuild and build depth.

I don't think we will trade our draft picks away unless its for a young player that would be in our best 22 and fills a need. Trade it for a promising youngster maybe. I do expect us to keep our picks and draft.

I expect us to be reasonably quiet in the trade week. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't make a single deal in the trade week. Personally, I would be VERY aggressive in this period. History suggests that premierships sides are built by good trading, equally as much as by good drafting.

We need to keep developing the likes of Reilly, Watts, Van Berlo, Knights, Jericho, Maric, Meesen et al and supplement them with more youth from the draft.

Massie should stay with the club. The club flew him over to perth this weekend, and they certainly wouldn't muck around with someone's life by giving them false hope.

I think Watts will probably stay. He was also flown to Perth this weekend. Perhaps the club wanted to show him that they mean business. I also think he will be a great assist to our forward line in the coming years.

Some of you will consider this a big call, but I'm gonna say it anyway....

Trade Burton (if anyone would be crazy enough to take him) or leave as the list to use ONLY if absolutely needed due to injury. The bloke can get the ball, no worries about that at all, but his skills are woefull. I'm suprised he even made it to AFL level.

I rate Massie over Burton, and i don't rate Massie all that highly. lol

thats why you arent coach ;)

massie is on the scrap pile, its only a continuing hard work ethic with a good attitude and the fact that we need depth that may save him. Dont disagree with trading some of our players though, NC has to have a plan on how to win a premiership atm i dont really see one we are still playing the older players. If we are going to rebuild its best to do it properly.

I think Burton will definitely be in our top dozen B&F. Some mistakes may stand out, but he has played some really good games this year.

Maybe your mods could make this a sticky and all the people who make a draft or trade related thread it gets merged into there, better then going through 10 different threads.

No-one has mentioned this guy as a midfield option for next year - Why ?

He's a great prospect yet he is claerly under-rated on this board

Stay of our board then, that simple

I would like to see him as a attacking wingman with Mattner on the other wing

But who would we trade and who would be interested in any of them?

That means nothing in the big picture. Massie unfortunately was taken as a blind IMO and Fergus as a precaution to a forward going down at training.

Masssie will probably stay as a back up next year but nothing more.

Watts on the other hand is our future, but tradable at the same time.

The only problem with Massie is that he cant play

Would trade Perrie, Watts and first round draft pick for Pav. Perhaps thats why they took Fergus to Perth, to see if he likes the place.

He has played for Westies through the midfield in the second half of the year. He needs to improve his ball-handling (clean hands) to be played in the guts. I would most definetly like to see him on the wing. Has great pace and a thumping kick. He is good overhead, so he could be a great linkman for us.

He would need to work on his endurance to be considered as a midfielder. I rate him. Some of the others don't. If he can improve his hands in traffic and get his endurance to the required level for a midfielder, he could be a real gun for us.

I agree - but can't see displacing either Mattner or Burton on the wings - he does need to become cleaner with his ball handling but his pace and marking abilities could be a real bonus in our midfield - PS will tell ;)

Rather than look at specific players list your top 3 weakest positions.

For us it is Ruck, Fullback and CHF. That way you can look at what is on the market and more importantly which young kids around your draft pick range are likely going to be available.

Good call.

Where we can improve:

Tall forward (4 honest contributors each week but no one who is a matchwinner)

Crumbing forward (virtually no goals from crumbers this year, must be addressed)

Pacy/classy outside midfielder (Good at clearances, not so good at breaking the lines)

In & under midfielder (At this stage only looks like Thommo out of the younger brigade coming through)

Possibilities:

Tall forwards
Pav

Crumbing forward

Miller
Faulkner
Sampi
Medhurst

Outside midfielder

Butler

Inside midifelder
Waters

Not to mention in these positions we should be developing Watts, Knights, Jericho etc.

As I speak Watts has booted 7 goals for Eagles by 3/4 time. If we trade him and he doesn't want to go home then it'll be a massive mistake.

Because he's too soft. He would get smashed in the midfield at AFL level. Could be a wingman option but i doubt it.

So true. Should be third in line for delstings with only Smith and S Stevens ahead of him.

Ah, Springy you never seem to learn a lesson. Write Jericho off at your own peril.

Looks like you will be in for another serve of humble pie in the not too distant future ;)

You'll have to give us something more than Perrie.

You guys talk him up on one hand, but then say that CHF is one of your weaknesses on the other.

We have a CHF. Perrie wouldn't be enough to get Waters or Butler.

What would you offer instead?
